....... and then there was that...........

I doubt this is uncommon, but it's where I want to post this. I loathe today's music. I can barely even rely on my good ol' alternative rock genre, because it now all sounds like the same pop-rock ****. I just heard Daughtry's new album, and there is only one half-decent song on it whose chorus is ruined by layers and filters galore.

I miss the late 90s/early 2000s for music.

Where are you guys hearing today's music at?

Speaking of music - something I feel never gets appreciated nearly enough is Heart's debut album Dreamboat Annie. If you're talking about the best debut albums this has to be part of the conversation at the very least.

Seems like every commercial, movie, place of business, talk radio intro, video game, and other people's radio/music app etc is filled with it. So basically everywhere but on my device lol.

I think when "today's music" is mentioned, it means the overwhelming vast majority of readily available music. Better music can be found by knowing where to look, but most of everything else is horrible. And it's easier to just resort to what you know is good than to suffer through 95% junk to find something decent.

Well I don't listen to it, but turn on any FM radio station and you'll hear it there. They also pop up in my Pandora stations.

And just like NRSM, I hear it literally anywhere on TV as well, whether it's commercials or the Grammy's.

Of course, like I said before, I also hear it in my previous favorite bands that are now selling out in their newest albums. It seems you can't be popular without having pop anymore, at least in the rock genre.

Its definitely true in rock. And maybe the most obvious genre that has sold out to pop is country music (not that it should still be called country music). Talk about bad music - 'Pop country' is the the one of the worst things i have ever heard.

Said it before and I'll say it again - there has never been a better time to be a music consumer. Spotify is the best $10 I spend every month. If you blanket statement that today's music sucks, that's a you problem, not a today's music problem.

I have bands that don't hit the radio which have excellent music, even in 2018. I was really talking about the culture surrounding popular music, and what everyone listens to. If you want to make it big and feature on iTunes and Billboard Top 100 and such, there is a specific style that you need.

Hopefully Grace VanderWaal can shake that idea up in the next half-decade.

Ah, well I haven't really paid attention to that for a long time. Honestly couldn't care less what's on the charts. Our access to music isn't determined by that nearly as much as it was in the past.

I have Spotify too. Like has already been said 95% of today's readily available, easy to find, popular music sucks. The blanket only covers 95%. Even a lot real musicians, songwriters, and artists are saddened by the state of today's music. And many of them refuse to sell out their passion for money. Some of them have even sold out and returned because they wanted to play real music, not just $-generating music. Music has moved away from talent and heart, to "hooky". Hooky sells and its sad.

People have said this in every era of music. Look back at the charts. It's filled with $-generating formulaic music.

There will always be a mix of both.

Very true, and now more than ever. Thats why its a low point! Popular music is popular, thats where the $ comes from. No doubt about that. It's also why this is an uncommon opinion.

I really can't get behind the Spotify movement. I'm not crazy about the interface and I get quite a bit of music with Amazon Prime's app.

I wish someone would start a music streaming service with a phone partnership that includes "free" data while using their app. DirecTV Now doesn't use data with AT&T and that's a pretty cool feature.

Spotify is only good when i want to find something very specific, or listen to a specific album. It actually is overrated in my opinion.

Blzer trying to take it back to the NSYNC/Backstreet Boys/Christina Aguilera/Britney Spears era and then relive the greatness that was crunk music, the golden age.
