Re: Mispronounced Words: Tales of poor grammar
True, but it's such a common sound that he really didn't need to tie a word to it.
It'd would be like me saying, "I hate when people pronounce 'taper' like 'TAY-puh'." That specific pronunciation of the "-er" sound is not uncommon.Comment

Re: Mispronounced Words: Tales of poor grammar
Yeah, but when it starts carrying into things like the students saying "tan 30 equals 5/7's" as opposed to saying "the tangent of 30 degrees is five over seven," and they start losing sight of what it is they are actually trying to do. Hell, some people will start saying "tan TIMES 30," which makes things worse that they have no ****ing clue what they're doing if they're just following syntax and not trying to understand it.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Mispronounced Words: Tales of poor grammar
My mentor teacher pronounced it that way and it was just completely strange, because she gave off an aura of being intelligent, confident and all that other good stuff. As such, her mispronunciation of that single word always felt terribly out of place.Comment

Re: Mispronounced Words: Tales of poor grammar
this one is probably really common and i'm sure has been mentioned in here before, but i say wood-er instead of water. a lot of people around my way say that. same with warsh instead of wash. like warshington dc lol. some others ones that i dont say but are pretty funny Baltimore accents are zink instead of sink, and pockybook as opposed to pocket book. also ewl instead of oil. plus the plethora of words that i mash together when saying them.Comment

Re: Mispronounced Words: Tales of poor grammar
My dad said that all the time, don't think he realized it wasn't a real word either. And yeah, my best guess is that it's a combination of flustered and frustrated. When I was a senior in college I was talking to my advisor and used "flustrating" to describe how my senior project was going and he said that his advisor back when he was in college also used that word.Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII

Re: Mispronounced Words: Tales of poor grammar
I hate it when people spell "should've" as "should of." As in, "I should of gone to the store but I was too lazy." NO! It's a contraction of the words SHOULD and HAVE! Why would the word of even be involved? Doesn't even make sense from a definition standpoint.MLB: Minnesota Twins
