What are your guys thoughts regarding bark on your smoke wood? I can't tell a difference, but a few of my friends swear by taking off the bark as it will ruin the taste.

Also, where do you guys buy your wood chunks?

I have never used bark, so I cannot comment on that, but I usually buy my chips/chunks from Home Depot, Menards or online.

I've always been told it doesn't matter but I usually take it off if the chunks I buy have it.

I buy mine mainly from Academy Sports and Publix.

I've never noticed a difference in flavor, I suspect that this is more about bad fire management as bark burns quicker since it's less dense, so it's easier to get a hot flame throwing up dirty smoke.

Time for another non-grilling method. You guys ever done steamed burgers? Good stuff if you have your method down.

There's a place in Connecticut that does them. http://www.tedsrestaurant.com/ Oh my god! You are liable to burn your mouth on the melted cheese, but they're awesome. They have better equipment than I got, but I make due.

When you live in an apartment, you learn alternatives! If you have a double boiler, I'm sure it is easier, but I have a makeshift setup. You can get big *** half pound burgers packed into a large chunk chicken/tuna can, keeps everything contained if you do stuffed burgers or anything like that but cooking time does vary, easy to drain the fat, and then put the cheese on at the end.

Wow! No offense to you because everyone likes what they like and I was almost crucified for even suggesting to boil ribs, but that method of steaming burgers, just sounds gross!

Then I declare myself the one true carnivore, whether raw, boiled, steamed, broiled, bbq'd, grilled, smoked, charred, baked, fried... i'm sure there are more adjectives, I shall devour it.

Steamed burgers sound nasty, but they're pretty good cause they're so juicy.

You don't get the char on it like you would with a regular burger, but I think the moistness of the patty makes up for it. It adds a different flavor to it than grilling them.

Of course I've only had White Castle.. but that Ted's place above was on a food network show before and yes the melted cheese looks damn good.

White Castle burgers are yummy! I'd only have them occasionally back home as a treat, but I'm a fan. I miss not having any here in the southwest!

Not sure I'd ever try steaming my own burgers though, that does make it sound kinda gross.

                          I'd boil ribs first

I remember seeing the steamed burger thing on food network, the only thing that really looked good to me was the giant glob of melted cheese.

I don't find I have a problem with dry burgers though.

White Castle seems like a different breed than the straight steamed burger like I saw on food network.
