Re: Official OS Sports Card Collecting Thread

Man, I knew I should of never went into this thread....

I used to love collecting cards back in the day. Back when concrete gum was included with every pack! I was also one of those guys that would never pull anything good.. But the few occasions that I actually did, I would ruin the card by putting it in different cases and the corners would get bent or something would ruin the card. My best card would be this card:

No signature on it like the one shown above.. but I remember pulling 2 of these in 2 separate packs. I got super excited, and was so quick to check Beckett for the price on them and when I saw they were worth $50 I literally jumped for joy and thought I'd be a rich card collector for the rest of my life.

After a few Jon Koncak and Adam Keefe cards, my dream went away. I remember a few years ago I started bidding on Lebron/Kobe rookie cards to keep in case they get as rare as they did with the Fleer Jordan rookie cards, but there was just too many companies releasing cards to figure out which one is worth the most.

My parents are moving and I've been helping them. I've got boxes of cards I haven't seen in a decade or so. I have one baseball shaped card case that is probably 20 years old. I saw that sumbitch and instantly transported to when I was 10 years old sitting on the floor trading cards with my buddy. Good damn times.

I have way too many cards to go through, part of me wants to go through them and organize them but that probably won't happen.

Not a card thing, but I've been building my McFarlane collection.

Found a guy on Craigslists that is selling Cooperstown edition dirt cheap, about to head up and meet the guy
(so you know, if I dont tweet ever again, that's why)

I'll post an image of them all If I come back....

I loved that insert set back in the day. I wouldn't mind trying to put it together again. I recently completed these bad boys. Anybody remember them?

Wow, that takes me back....It was at the end of my collecting era and I didn't have enough money to buy Stadium Club cards much (those were expensive to a 12-13 year old!)

I thought their inserts were amazing lol Now I see all the stuff they do with jerseys and I'm amazed even more.

My 1997 Series 1 Hobby Box of Topps Finest (baseball) should be here tomorrow.

It will be my first ever box/pack of Finest and it's from my favorite year in both baseball and Finest cards.

I still firmly believe some of the older cards like that Beam Team from above are the best.

It could just be nostalgia since they were so much cooler as kids, but there's just something about filled a void you had as a kid when you can afford to do so as an adult.

I use to be huge into collecting cards but haven't in a while. My prized card was my Ryne Sandberg rookie card. I got to meet him a few years ago and he was kind enough to autograph that along with a jersey, baseball, and things for my kids. I asked him how many people had he come across in his life that had named their children after him. He gave some very large number I can't remember what exactly but I pointed over at my youngest son and told him to add another to the list. He said Oh that's a good name to give someone, he'll do great stuff with a name like that. I thought that was the coolest thing that he took the time to sign all that stuff and chat a while.

Anyone else think card prices these days are ridiculous? A box of good quality cards is like $100!

I went by the Target card aisle (not the best choice) and I noticed a 6 card pack was like $5! Geez!!!

Boxes are like 70 for your normal sets. The good boxes are like 3-500 but you can almost always get at the very minimum 65% back if you were to sell those cards right away. I'm guessing the more expensive single packs you found were Topps chrome.

Speaking of which, I picked up a 10 hanging pack of 2012 chrome from Target.

Pulled a gold Colin cowgill RC auto on card #6/50. Twas a good night.

What's the difference between the Series 1 boxes and the Opening Day boxes? The Opening Day boxes seem a lot cheaper on eBay.

The Series 1 base set is 330 cards. Series 2 and the Update Series will be the same. Opening Day is cheaper because it is a smaller set that only consists of 220 base cards and also includes cards of the team mascots. Most of them are the same cards as Series 1 but with the Opening Day logo on them. There are also cards in there with the logo that are a preview of Series 2. Opening Day set is geared more towards set builders and kids.
