Re: Official OS Sports Card Collecting Thread

Glad to see this thread again. I've gotten a few decent cards lately. A Topps Heritage Kyle Schwarber relic /99. A Heritage Bazooka mini of Chris Archer, and did an online break the other night and had 3 hits. Randomly got the Cardinals and got a Jake Plummer 3 color relic, an auto of someone from 2012 that I forgot (out of the NFL) and a 15 David Johnson auto /99 from Sterling.

Oh, almost forgot. Got a Carlos Correa bat relic /99 from a Donruss blaster.

Thanks, man. I'm going to go ahead and see how people go about that.

I no longer have my collection, but I was the same era you were (late 80's, early 90's)...

For some reason I thought Skybox basketball cards and Pro Set football cards were awesome...ugh....

Baseball I was mostly Topps, and basketball I switched to Fleer and Stadium Club, but by 94 I stopped buying...too many inserts and too expensive for a kid (I was 14 in 94)

Oh man, yep. Skybox's "computer graphics" were a big deal to us back in the day.

And Stadium Club was big due to the gold printing and whatnot. Also dug Upper Deck. Fleer was cool, too, when they went the spray paint route in '94.

Did you just end up trashing them all?

I moved cross country and unloaded them for cheap at a card store (when those still existed lol). All the ones that I thought might be worth something ended up being not worth much at all....

Sadly all the brands I liked weren't worth as much as other ones (Upper Deck held better value I think)

I don't think you really get into card collecting to make money or get value, you have to do it for fun now.

Please don't think this is a knock on you, but everyone over-values their cards. I'm guilty of it just as much as the next guy. When I buy cards I'm like come on its not worth that much, and when I sell cards I'm like come on its worth way more than that. lol

We'll see about that after I unleash my Uwe Blab Skybox gem on the market.

Yeah, but back in the late 80's the older cards were worth a lot more....that was the beginning of the mass production era, along with the "inserts" era...

I totally thought they'd be worth more, but value went down for sure. A 100 buck MJ insert was worth like 10 bucks when I got rid of them...

I didn't pick the best cards for long term value either, but when you're 10 you don't really know. Plus the internet didn't really exist to help me.

Does anyone have experience with shipping 100+ cards at once? Any tips or recommendations for best practices? Someone bought up all my Phoenix Suns and while they're not in mint condition or anything, I'd like to do what I can to ensure safe travel.

P.S. If anyone has any interest in 100 cards the 90's of your favorite NBA team, shoot me a private message (hope that doesn't come across as advertising, just thought I'd throw it out there).

I would probably buy one of those card boxes that the cards fit into and then put that in a shipping box with some bubble wrap or something....

                      Assuming they're not in cases...

Thanks, man. I'm not even sure I know where to buy those now. I suppose I'll give Meijer a go.

Give them to a neighborhood kid, or a family member or the child of a friend of the family.

Grabbed a the first pack of Topps series 2 off the rack tonight at Walmart and was surprised to find this nice little hit. Notice the pinstripe on the very left.
