      Re: Do we have ghosts?

Man I would love to do a ghost hunt or something. I went to the Stanley Hotel in Colorado (the house the Shining was inspired by), but the ghost hunt was completely booked so we couldn't do it.

I'll have to try to convince my fiancee to do one with me sometime.

I love the direction in which this thread has headed - everyone's ghost experiences.

We should rename it, " Ghost Hunters: OS ". Probably one of the most interesting threads. Loving the stories!

              Re: Do we have ghosts?

Let me preface this story with this: My sister is 6 years younger than me, and when this was going on I was in high school. The house I grew up in. (parents still live there) is a bungalow, and the whole upstairs was my bedroom. My sisters room was on the main floor and the driveway was right outside.

Over a period of time -- and looking back it seemed to be one summer -- some strange things happened in my room and my sisters room. There was a new fan installed in my room and one night I had a friend over and we were playing a videogame and one of the fan blades broke off. The actual metal broke. This fan couldn't have been more than a year old. There were a couple instances where there tv shut off by itself. And I also heard what sounded like someone walking up the wooden stairs. It sounded so convincing that I asked who it was coming up.

While all of that is somewhat creepy, this is what really gets me. My sister woke me up one night and told me that she heard someone in her room or right outside her window. She said that they were saying "help me" over and over in a high pitched female voice. I didn't hear anything and told her to go back to bed. The next day she told my parents and they just brushed it off as a dream or something. Which I figured it was too.

I don't know how much time had passed, but one night she got me up again saying she was hearing the voice. She said she had been hearing it off and on. So I went and woke up my dad and told him that my sister was hearing someone outside. He went outside and there was nothing.

My sister had mentioned hearing the voice a few more times as time went on, then I guess it stopped. She said she never heard it again.

I'm gonna ask her about it again and see what she says. Pretty damn freaking thinking about it now.

I've never been on a ghost hunt before but I would love to go on one. A woman that lives across the street from my dad goes on them and is always asking me to go, I think I'm gonna take her up on her offer. She's kind of weird, she thinks ghost always follow her home from places, so that's why I haven't gone with her yet.

I never really chalked this up to a ghost but it's certainly spooky, this happened in my house which never had anything remotely spooky when I was about 11.

My parents received a free TV from a family friend who's husband had died a few weeks earlier, it was a average TV from the mid 90s, nothing special about it all. My parents put it in their room for a TV to watch when they fell asleep, problem is during the night(1am or later) it would turn on channel 0 which had no picture with the volume at 99. When this thing turned on it would literally scare the crap out if everyone in the house. This happened two nights in a row, so my parents decided to get a extension cord with a switch so when they went to bed all they had to do is flip the switch and the current to the TV would be cut off. That night it happened again, the next day it was out by the trash.

I don't believe in ghosts and here's a good reason why. My best friend did. In fact he said he had one in his house. Said he resembled Les Nessman and he's why his goofy cat kept staring at the top of the steps. But my best friend died last April. I've yet to see him in ghost form or notice anything weird since his passing. And he would do something just to prove me wrong.

I've been ghost hunting at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia. If you want to hear, see, and smell some freaky things, then you should plan a trip there for an investigation. It's an unbelievably creepy place. Especially when it is just you and few other people in the entire building. That place is what got me believing in the paranormal for sure. I'm actually friends with two people that are in a paranormal investigation group.

I just want to know how many people here besides you and I know who Les Nessman is!

The entire concept behind ghosts makes absolutely no sense - so I wouldn't worry for even a second.

The human mind is great at imagining things, though - especially when we believe in certain things and put or find ourselves in situations that help to feed these beliefs.

Like going "ghost hunting" in really creepy, dark and abandoned places... What the hell do you expect your brain to do with any creepy sensory information it's given? It wants to freak out, confirm that said things are real and then protect us by telling us to get the hell out; it's our nature.

I guess I will chime in with my "ghost stories":

When I was between 5th and 8th grade, we lived in a house that my family believes had some spirits inhabiting it...

I remember coming home from a road trip and setting a bottle of contact solution on the railing of our porch. As I turned to walk in the door, the bag hanging over my shoulder knocked my bottle of solution off the railing and down to the ground, about 10 feet below. When I went to retrieve my bottle later, I came to find that it was about three feet under the porch. The ground below the porch railing was completely flat (paved patio area) and directly below the porch were softball-sized stones, so I have no idea how the bottle got so far under the porch.

My step-father was once sitting at the computer with my mother on his lap. Suddenly he jumped up, asking my mom why she grabbed his knee. She hasn't. He said he felt a bony (bonie? I dunno... Like a skeleton hand) grab his knee, and it wasn't my mother.

My step-dad's mother hated staying at our house. She said she would hear whistling in the middle of the night (I went through an annoying "whistling faze" at one point, but she swore it wasn't me, so take it with a grain of salt), and she would wake up in the middle of the night and feel like there was someone staring directly at her just a few inches in front of her face.

My mother said she would occasionally lose make-up bags and such, then find them weeks later under the couch or in a strange cabinet. We had no little kids or pets or anything that could have moved the make-up, and it was mostly just me, my mom, and my step-dad in the house

I know much of that can be explained by nerves or me whistling or being uncomfortable in you sleeping environment, but I can't explain the contact solution bottle or my mother's make-up bag.

I never had any experiences in any other place I have lived. I lived in three houses as a kid, stayed at my dad's house occasionally, lived in a few dorms/apartments in college, and now two apartments in adult life, and the only place I had any experiences in was that house.

That's how I feel for the most part. I think too many people have seen things though and at random times, not just in creepy, dark and abandoned places. People have seen things in the day at a park etc... So I can't just chalk it up to peoples minds playing tricks on them, but if there are ghosts I need to see it for myself.
