I can't drive with my left at all. I'd be doomed if I had to drive stick.

Right hand is reserved for gestures and shifting. Left hand is typically between 10 and 12.

I think Canes is just always turning to the right. Its the only way 1 and 5 makes any sense whatsoever.

I don't think it even makes sense then.

12 and 6 with both palms down is really messing me with me, too.

So, my cousin is getting re-married this coming June (which will be her second June wedding before my first one). I've only met the husband to be once and that was before her divorce was even finalized up at my grand-parents' house about two years ago. My only impression of him is that he is a less manly version of herself and has the limpest, most clamy-wet handshake of any man I've ever shook hands with.

She's the type to over-romanticize everything particularly her "mountain family" as she affectionately describes us. It makes me feel like a novelty. Several months ago she posted a question on facebook for us to deliberate on and that was to define exactly what a "pile-in" is (which is basically just a family gathering and a meal - pretty standard affair really).

About a week or so ago we received a save the date card from her and her doppelganger groom with the definition of pile-in included on the card as she was calling it a "wedding pile-in (the wedding is going to be at her mother's house which is in the 'county' in NoVA). Now, the thought struck me that she expected those attending this wedding pile-in to not only travel for a wedding, but to also bring food.

I didn't really think she would be that tacky so I didn't think anything of it until her mother and my mom (sisters) were visiting together this weekend and basically confirmed my initial thought. It just rubs me the wrong way to expect people to travel to a wedding and also bring a dish. I get doing things on the cheap, but I'm not really surprised as she's pretty aloof about things like this unless its her doing the work.

I don't even turn right that way.....My hand is on 9 and I just turn the wheel right from that position. And when I turn left, my hand is at 3 and I just turn the wheel left from that position.

My wife does the same thing, we both drive and turn with one hand.

I typically drive with my left hand palm down at 6, or palm up at 7. Unless of course I'm driving aggressively/maneuvering, then it's left at 12, with the right assisting as necessary.

Ha same here. But I drive a stick so my right's usually there.

If I'm being honest, unless I'm turning, 95% of the time I just have my thumb pressed against the bottom of the wheel (6). I'm not even gripping it. Maybe it's because I'm lazy or maybe it's because I grew up driving in the sticks where it's mostly straight roads, but having my hands all the way up at 10 or 12 is so damn tiring.

And if it's a straight stretch of road and I'm not changing lanes, my hands are probably off the wheel.

In heavy traffic my left hand is at 12. Long stretches of highway or emptiness like on my trips to Tallahassee i'm just chilling at 6.

My right hand is at about 4:30 when I'm just low pressure driving. If **** gets crowded or start and stop then I have both hands on the wheel usually.

Depends how much traffic Im dealing with but I generally have one hand (or resting two thumbs) on 6. If things get a bit hectic, 10 and 2. Especially in the city or commercial roads in Brooklyn.

Its funny, I was teaching a friend how to drive on Saturday and caught myself having to refresh on proper steering wheel hand placement to teach him.
