This MyFitness Pal app has been great. I had been writing down my own food log, but this is just easier to track and a lot more accurate. I think I'm underestimating my calorie burn for Insanity, but that's OK.

I gotta say my fitness pal app is a life saver literally. I've see people lose more weight on that app more than anything.

My buddy went from 310 pounds to now competing in fitness competitions in 3 years.

Myself I've lost over, 100 pounds on it. I should get back on it after gaining 20 pounds.

I was eating lunch yesterday with a friend at Chili's and we were both checking our menu selections for calories before ordering. I had to laugh at us.

What's the verdict on exercising while sick/on the onset of getting sick?

I've been getting a cold the past two days (just a sore throat and some occasionally coughing for now), but I've traditionally always tried to exercise. I always seem to feel better after finishing, but I wasn't sure what the consensus was.

I usually try to push through it unless I feel the rest would be best.

Did a PRT yesterday, dropped from the 100/100 club in both push ups and sit ups (four months of inconsistent working out during training and 12 hour work days with sporadic off days will do that), but shaved my mile and a half time down to 10:31. To think that more than two years ago I was close to failing the run back in basic at 13:24.

It seems like I won't be able to hit my goals that I made earlier this year, but it was well worth the effort.

I'm signed up for the Marine Corps Historic Half and the Pocono Tough Mudder.

Looking to add Marine Corps 17.75k if I can get in on the lottery which takes place on my birthday

If I get in, then I will be running the full Marine Corps Marathon in October.

Don't have any Spartan Races near me so I am hoping to see something pop up or I will make it happen in 2016.

                Re: 2014 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Any tips for someone trying to get into the gym and finding a routine? My biggest challenge is finding a routine and sticking with it. Id like to get bigger, and work on my six pack. But am a complete noob at working out.

Currently 6-2, 211. Not over weight, play a ton of basketball almost everyday. Just need a workout regime.

Do you guys prefer free weights? or use the machines? Apart of me is insecure about getting into the gym. Constantly questioning myself in the gym. Like, "am i doing this right? blah blah blah" to the point when I just leave the gym.

Tips on finding a routine and sticking with it? Thanks in advance!

Also huge fan of this site. Been a lurker for awhile. Finally joined and plan to be a regular poster.

I myself don't go crazy hard to begin with. Start off 3 days a week and increase as you go. But when you set a day you can't miss it no matter what.

If you are not sure how to use a machine, usually you can ask staff but I ask the regulars and really never had a person say no to me on how to use a machine. I myself prefer free weights because you use a lot of parts of your body to lift the weight rather it being isolated with machines but I use machines all the time and it's great to start off with and it's safer.

Also youtube is a great source to get workouts, routines and also how to lift properly.

I prefer the free weights. If only use the machines/pulley systems for increasing certain things that I'm stuck on with the free weight such as the bitterly to increase my bench. I personally started getting back into lifting with the 5x5 regimen. Was tremendously convenient because I had to do a little bit of working out with consistent gains. The gym didn't take away from family life much.

On another note, I've been gaining slowly but surely. I don't know if I endorsed Gripz. They are building my forearms and grip so much. Really makes a difference in certain exercises.

I just started a diet. i was at 216 (overweight for someone my size. ) and already by watching what i eat i dropped to 212.5 but here the Question .... I live in the county... and have a long driveway it starts at our small barn and goes to the mailbox..... how many times a day i need to go out and walk to my mailbox and back and go around the Barn? i know it can help a little bit. also what foods do i need to eat that are healthy. i used to eat pizza every other day for lunch but i cut those out except for every once in awhile.

I find that if your goal is strength and you're going to use machines/cables do so only after your main compound lifts; as accessory work. (Bench Press, Squat, Deadlift, Overhead Press) As the compounds are the main foundations of strength, and hit the most muscle groups at one time. If you focus on those at the beginning of your workouts, you'll see more consistent progress on them.

I guess 2014 is wrapping up; was an interesting year for me. I was able to rehab from some injuries that derailed me, and was able to get back into the Gym. Which that in itself is an accomplishment for me. Got my weight up to 155, still remaining relatively lean.

I think however I'm going to have to back from my Strength/physique goals for a few months, to take care of some life goals and other responsibilities; maybe I can do bodyweight workouts in the meanwhile; but at some point in 2015 once things settle down for me I will return to the gym and try to reach for new levels in strength, and mass.

How long do you guys think it would take to trim 20-25 lbs? I'm 16 y/o and I'm not fat nor skinny, I'm right in the middle. I'm 6'0'' and 182 lbs.. I've gained some weight the past few weeks. Two weeks ago, I was 170 lbs.

I plan on limiting my calories to 1700 a day and running 2-3 miles 4-5 days a week.

At a good healthy pace: 20-25 weeks. 155 lbs at 6" sounds way too light to me.

You gained water weight if you put on 12 lbs in 14 days. It takes 3500 calories over maintenance level to put on 1lb of fat. That would be eating an insane amount of food to truly put on 12 real lbs.

I kinda exaggerated. I gained it all in one month. I've been on a horrible diet. Thanksgiving came by and I had leftovers for almost a whole week straight. I've also been eating quite a bit of fast food, too. Just stupid choices.
