    Re: 2015 FITNESS CHALLENGE

I think I'm taking the day off.

I'm sore as hell from head to toe, but it feels okay.

    Did some pyramid exercises today.

10 four count calf raises, 10 four count small "leg spreads" ( like a small jumping jack without the arm movement, 10 four count jumps (just a small jump), 10 four count jumping jacks, and then back down. It's really only super effective if you don't break and do it as a continuous workout.

I doubt my lingo makes senses, but that's a hell of a quick leg/cal workout. The last 10 calf raises are insanely difficult after a set or two. I was burning good after the first one.

Also did some basic planks, mountain climbers.

Play two games of 5 on 5 full court ball and called it a morning.

My body was sore as hell this morning, but I've been trying to start implementing more amino acids in after workouts for recovery. It seemed to help after my double gym day yesterday.

If you need a day off, take a day off. If you try to work the same muscles when you're body is clearly telling you they need to heal, you're not doing any good anyway. But also remember, if you're not just trying to gain mass, you probably shouldn't be working so hard to need an unplanned day off, so factor that in when heading to your next work out.

If you really want to just keep the momentum going, just do some kind of cardio. Set the treadmill on a 10 degree incline and walk for 30 mins; hit the elliptical and set the tension to a level that's not killing your muscles but enough to give you a little sweat. Etc.

But yeah, sometimes you just need to take a day.

Have to shut it down on the running side as I have bronchitis. No doubt from running in the cold.

With temps in the 70's yesterday and mid-60's today, I took advantage of the conditions and got my butt outdoors.

Yesterday was a 25-mile bike ride on several paved trails in town. Followed that up with a 9-mile run today that I finished in just over 1:24.

We will see how my legs feel tomorrow, but if they are good I am riding my bike to work.

I'm still down from being sick. Hope to at least lift later this coming week.

Anyone have any amino acid advice ?

I want to start making sure I get a sufficient amount in my diet, considering I work on a ship that doesn't always provide the most nutritious meals.

I bought the MP BCAA 3:2:1, but the serving size is 8 capsules. I don't want to be swallowing that many pills for just one serving.

Bottle suggests 1-3 servings per day, but I'm planning on limiting it to one serving for now to see if it has any effect. I couldn't fathom consuming 24 capsules a day. I've also seen someone using a powdered amino acid compound at work, but that's just another drink to have to put down.

Something I do differently now that I didn't do a few years ago is I don't consume protein outside of my regular diet. That **** is for the birds in my opinion. I'm not trying to pack on mass right now.. I just want to get lean.

Best BCAA by BPI Sports. I use the powder form and so far very happy with using it just once per day.

Update on my 60 day challenge.

Down 14 lbs from day one, 3% body fat. I was hoping to shred a bit more body fat but man that's hard to cut off.

I feel great and the diet is a bit extreme so I'll probably dial that down a bit, but going to keep going with this. I'd like to reach an even 180... 3 more pounds.

I think my body is pretty well conditioned these days. It's not perfect or great, but I no longer turn my nose up at 5 on 5 full court ball.

It's turned into a lot of fun on free PT days, especially since my shot is back. It's better cardio than the stationary bike I usually hit up. I think biking to work is also helping.

I wish I liked to run, but I need someone to run with. I can find people to lift with, but no one ever likes to run.

I'm the opposite: I don't want anybody near me. If I could have the entire gym empty and dimly lit when I lifted I would. Get in my own world and blast my headphones. When I run I feel the same way...I don't want anybody with me...not even the dog.

I like to lift by myself, but I run better with a group.

I just can't get my head right when I run, even if I listen to some good music. I don't enjoy running at all, but alternative cardio like biking is fun to me.

I usually do the stationary bike for bi-annual manditory PRT. The mile and a half run isn't my thing, but I could do it. I get 14 minutes lol. It's my old man discount for being 25.
