    Re: 2015 FITNESS CHALLENGE

I'm not a diet expert so maybe there is someone in here that can give me some guidance. Looking online offers no help if you have no context and aren't sure if a guy is just selling you a plan because they're paid to or not.

Been doing crossfit the last 2 weeks. Have lost roughly 5 pounds in about 11 or so days of actually working out. Which is great, but my concern is that along the way, I'm going to be losing muscle mass as well which is not something I want to do. This may be true it may not be. I would assume that with the nature of Crossfit that I wouldn't but I feel I should nip this in the bud now before I get to far and get smaller than I want to.

Just to give you an idea, I've been trying to maintain a 1800-2000 calorie diet. I've eliminated all beverages other than water and skim milk that I have with my protein shake. I'm eating alot more greens (brocolli/spinach/avocado) and chicken/fish and also snack more throughout the day on granola, walnuts etc. Then a protein shake at lunch and after my workout. Is all that sufficient enough to supplement muscle growth as well as promote fat loss?

      Re: 2015 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Survived my business trip. Working 16-18 hours a day and having to walk around a basketball arena in a suit for 6 days straight is not very comfortable.

My body's still recovering from the long hours and lack of sleep, but I did manage a nice 4-mile run the other day. I'm planning on riding my bike to work, weather-provided, on Friday. This weekend I'm hoping to get my mountain bike out for the first time in 2015 and may also do a long run.

To update my progress I have dramatically cut back the soda intake. We call it pop up here lol. I've been drinking more tea and water.

I've tried to make better food choices as well. Eating more vegetables and less carbs. My blood sugar has also gone down as well. I was averaging around 200 and now my last 7 day average was 147. I don't think I've lost much weight yet, but I figure I will start to eventually.

So I guess I'm off to a good start.

I had a health scare a couple months back. Went to the ER with bad abdominal pain. Doctor thought it was maybe an ulcer and related to stress, diet, etc. Plus I had high cholesterol. This was the final straw.

For about a month now, I have completely changed my diet and lost weight. Doctor gave me meds to help with the ulcer and I haven't had any issues since. Still working on getting in better shape but the energy I have is amazing. Probably the best it has been in a long time. Also my back pain has greatly improved since still recovering from back surgery. This is my lifestyle now since I have to live long for my family.

            Re: 2015 FITNESS CHALLENGE

A great weekend here, weather-wise, and I took advantage, getting a 7-mile run in on Saturday and an hour-long mountain bike in today.

Picked up 2 new pairs of running shoes. I burned through this last pair (I bought another this weekend) really fast, so figure alternating shoes will help increase the lifespan. They are pretty much the same shoe (Brooks Ghost and Saucony Ride 7) so there won't be a noticeable change when I switch shoes.

I also purchased clipless pedals and shoes for my road bike! The shoes are sick and will also work on my mountian bike if I decide to go with clips on that one, too. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to get the clips installed, but will do so this week. I resisted this move for a long time but the difference in performance (I tried out a friend's bike/shoes who has the same shoe size as me) is really noticeable.

MusclePharm - Get Swole Phases 1-4

The only supplements I take are Combat Powder (Whey protein) two to three times a day as a snack and Creatine (three scoops) post workout.
              Update on this.

Musclepharm released a new serious called Hardcore Series with three new products:

Wreckage - Preworkout (kind of a rip off of Pre-Jym)
Gainz - Postworkout (kind of a rip off of Post-Jym)
              Diesel - Whey Protein

I picked up the Gainz and now take that after a workout, instead of creatine, which I take before my workouts. I still take the combat powder throughout the day as snacks. I'm currently halfway through Phase 2 of 4 of the workout (best workout I've ever done), and have seem some pretty good gains so far.

This of course in conjunction with the meal plan.

Man do I ever feel 30 years old...wow

Been going at it pretty good and the overall stiff/sore feeling from sports + lifting is making me realize I definitely need to drop these next 15-20 lbs and get to a more manageable weight for my body to handle.

It only gets worse Stew, lol although you just need to be smarter and listen to your body more. After I turned 30 I tore my ACL and a little of my Achilles. Not at the same time but just wear & tear over the years.

                    This.

Certain things will feel somewhat better eventually with less weight (back for instance), but if you're fairly active, it just gets worse, things wear down, you feel sore and creaky in the morning. All a part of getting older.

Lol I am trying to lose 20lbs as I am around 30 over weight and get tired of the hart burn. So far after about 3 months of trying I have lost a whole 1lb

If you give a breakdown of what you've been trying, I'm sure a ton of people here will help you identify where you're falling short and what you can try to speed up the process.

It has to be diet if you are truly working out consistently.

If you are strictly trying to lose weight, you have to burn more than calories than you intake. It's a numbers game at that point.

Obviously that is a simplistic way of looking at it, but really manage your diet the right way and you will see results. I've lost 9 pounds now in 3 weeks just by only drinking water and snacking healthier than in the past and working out using a constant routine.

I keep getting this shoulder pain after chest days. It's like on top of my shoulder blades, and it feels more like a bruise than anything. I think it's from bench pressing, and it seems like it happens after doing dumbbell presses, not so much barbell press. I usually just take a extra day or 2 off and it goes away, but then a few weeks later it starts again. I assume it's something I'm doing wrong form wise, any ideas that it could be?

A productive weekend, workout-wise. Got an 8-mile run in on Saturday and then today, did close to 20 miles on hilly roads on my road bike.
