Re: renting games

Swung by a Redbox to see if they had NHL 17 available to rent, no luck.

Just contacted Gamefly support regarding the status of my game. It's been a week and a day now, still no update on the game. Maybe it's because I've viewed the site on mobile and on desktop, but the availability had changed between Low and Very Low.

I never write in complaints (in fact I typically do the opposite -- just praised Enterprise employees this week) but I let 'em know I'm disappointed that I'm out a week of my trial and would probably buy the game directly through Gamefly if I liked it. Also suggested they revise their stock levels to more accurately reflect the true level of their games i.e changing Low to None if that's the case. Wonder what Very Low means if Low means none. lol

We'll see what they say...

I'm still interested in the service. I don't game too much outside of sports, and especially with a newborn at home, but being able to pick and choose a bunch of different experiences at the price of $15/month is more appealing then dropping $60 in one shot to own one game. The price plan actually works well for me because I typically play the crap out of a game when I get it but end up never finishing it after a couple of weeks. For example, I've played pretty much every console Zelda game, my favorite franchise, but have finished exactly none of them. I finish multiple seasons on any sports game I get though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've been using Flamingo for Android over the last couple months. About as solid as there is right now and constantly being updated. I use Tweetings too, but it's a bit laggy. Lots of features in that one though.

On my computer it's the Google Chrome app version of Tweetdeck, which I don't particularly enjoy. I miss the desktop client. Worked way better.

Gamefly support got back to me. Basically just said I'm beat on my game until more come in to stock, but did explain the availability schedule:

Available Now - Game is in stock and this should ship to a member today.
High Availability - There is a greater than 75% likelihood of shipping to a member today.
Medium Availability - There is a 50% to 74% likelihood of shipping to a member today.
Low Availability - There is a 25% to 49% likelihood of shipping to a member today.
Very Low Availability - There is less than a 25% likelihood of shipping to a member today. Most of these titles are rare or no longer manufactured.

I honestly wouldn't think a sports video game would be that high in demand on a rental service, and especially so for NHL, a popular sports game but probably less popular then NBA 2k, Madden, and FIFA. Probably The Show too. You typically buy and hold on to a sports game, they don't really have an ending and are high in replay value. Unless people hold on to games a lot longer then I assumed.

Still, I've had a 25-49% chance of getting the game for over a week and missed out each time. Regression to the mean! Advanced analytics!

Of course they suggested adding more games to queue. I didn't want to do that because 1) I don't want one 2) won't it just delay getting the game I really want? And since I'm on a limited 1 month trial, even a couple of days is valuable.

He will be missed. When I went to a movie premiere earlier this year they had a slideshow about his service in the coast guard.

At work, we are trying to implement a workflow application so we had a conference call today to describe the requirements and coding necessary. There are guys on the call from Poland, Ireland, UK, etc...not many from the US.

During the call, I am trying to explain a scenario where a transaction should be transferred to somebody so I said, :"What if this transaction is owned by John Doe and we need to move it to John Deer?" As soon as I said it, I put my phone on mute and laughed a good while. It's corny, yes, but I thought it was hilarious...especially when I considered the irony with it (doe, deer).

That ends concludes today's episode of nobody cares but me.

I'm surprised that the only movie I've seen Brooke Langton in is The Replacements. Apparently she's in The Benchwarmers as well, but it must have been a small role because I don't remember her in it (not much of a movie to remember though).

I guess I'm not surprised that's all I've seen her in based on what she's been in, but I'm more so surprised she didn't get more work that I would have seen her in, if that makes sense. I adored her as Reeves' love interest.

Speaking of which, I still don't know why there were cheerleader auditions in that film with only four games left in the season. Did the cheerleaders go on strike too?

True. At that point, if I were the owner, I'd be like "**** it. I have enough problems to worry about, why should I care about not having cheerleaders for these scrubs?"

Any tips to relax on a flight? It's only a little over a 2 hour flight.

Any chance you could pull an all nighter and nap during the flight? Probably easier said than done, I haven't flown (why does that word look wrong when I type it?) since I was a kid
