    Re: The Lego Thread

My son is starting to get into Legos. Right now he has the bigger lego building blocks. But my wife bought him a Spider-Man lego set for his birthday. Excited to put it together with him. Haven't played with Legos in probably 20+ years.

        Re: The Lego Thread

So I ordered the Lord of the Ring Tower of Orthanc for $67 from Ali Express. Not the original lego because thats out of print and this is about 1/4 the cost, so I rolled the dice.

It finally came after about a month. One plain cardboard box with 2,400 mostly black pieces in it in bags that have no rhyme or reason so I opened all the bags and dumped them in a bin.

Its like the worlds biggest 3D puzzle. Surprisingly all the pieces are there so far.

I have completed the Ent and the first two levels of the tower. Its actually a really fun build. Not for the faint of heart.

In order to find the pieces I need, I have to dump bricks from one clear plastic tote to another almost like mining for gold.

I'll post pictures when it's done.

It should look something like this.....

        Chalepa Ta Kala.....

Just put the Lego Batman Movie Clayface Splat Attack set together. Not too bad. Tons of 1 stud pieces.

Finally got a really good deal on the SHIELD Helicarrier! It is very cool. You can add power functions for the propellers as well.

              Re: The Lego Thread

Here's my newest set, the Black Pearl from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. So this set is actually an original creation by someone else because the official Lego set was a bit disappointing in that it didn't have a lower deck. And look at all the cannons! The original set only had 3 cannons on each side. So this guy made his own and I purchased the plans from him. Then I ordered all the pieces I needed from bricklink. It was a pretty difficult build because it was entirely stable until the very end, but I was really happy with the result. I added a lot of crew, some of them by combining lots of different Lego figure parts to hopefully get them to look similar to the crew in the movies. Plus I created that ocean base for the ship to sit in. That has about 5000 trans-blue pieces in it to create the water.

That's awesome. How many pieces make up the boat. How much does something like that cost to bricklink?

I don't know exactly how many pieces, the official Lego set was 804 pieces, the author of this ship said it was over 2000 pieces, so he more than doubled the part count and it shows. Ship is longer and much taller than the original. I spent about $200 on pieces at bricklink to build it. I had Lego's Black Pearl already and was able to use about 70% of its pieces. The sails tend to be expensive if you have to buy them but I had the ones from the official set.

This quickly became one of my favorite sets I own.

Thanks, I really like it. It's hard to say how much it would be. Most of the parts are pretty common except the sails, since they only were made for the Black Pearl. Maybe bricklink it for $300 without minifigures? The official Lego Black Pearl is still pretty cool, I would have been happy with it had I not seen this custom one. It just had the lower deck sacrificed for playability so you could shoot the cannons. I bought the original one for $150 without minifigures.

Aukevin were do you put all those Lego sets? They seem pretty large to just keep around the house.

I never really come in this thread so excuse me if you have posted we're you put them. Also like everyone else has mentioned, I really like that Black Pearl on the ocean. Pretty sweet.

I have a bonus room above the garage that is my theater/game room. I have shelves along the walls in there for the Lego sets.

How does the wife react to the lego hobby/addiction? Do you have kids that you let play with the sets?

Lego enthusiasts almost need a secret room behind a book case.

No kids, but I don't think I would mind if they played with them. There's a little boy across the street from me that comes over and plays with them and he'll break them apart some. My only rule is not to mix the pieces without me knowing, lol! My wife is indifferent to the Lego hobby. She likes that I have something that entertains me while she travels (she's a travel writer), but it isn't really anything we share or talk about much.
