Only 4 more days left in the year.

2022 feels like 2 different years

I completely forgot so many things were the way they were back even just in the spring of this year. Something as simple as the mandatory mask rules in so many places, it felt like its been forever here that places got rid of it, but it's been maybe several months.

I've definitely enjoyed the 2nd half of 2022 way more than the 1st half.

same here, albeit completely different reasons from my perspective

I had one job from May 1989 until June 2022

I left to work closer to home and I had the opportunity to work with my brother, along w/about 20 other reasons

but truth be told, I wish I had left my last place of employment in 2015.
that would have been perfect timing, except I didn't know what those next 6-7 years were going to hold

the last 6 months is the least stressful time period I've experienced in those last 6-7 years

The last day of vacation before "going back to reality" always sucks. One of the reasons I ironically don't always like vacations. Sometimes you just get in a rhythm/habit for days/weeks/months, but then when you're off for an extended time, once you go back it's like starting that routine all over again, which makes it ironic because not being on vacation might lead to things being less stressed when already in that zone.

Doesn't help that January/February are the 2 most depressing months on average (due to the weather/lack of holidays after just going through Christmas/Thanskgiving/Halloween).

I 100% feel this way. It takes a while for me to settle into a rhythm, and then once I do, if it gets disrupted, then I don't look forward to the change. Now that I've been on 'vacation mode' for so long, I have dreaded the transition back to work/regular life mode, even though it's for the best (I guess).

I guess the bottom line is I'm just a creature of habit, and I don't want to adjust to new habits (or re-adjust to old ones).

I've hit the 15 year mark at my job. I was notified today, that my pay increased by 15%, a hidden benefit the company does.

                  Apparently:
                  15 years = 15% pay increase
                  20 years = 20% pay increase
                  25 years = 25% pay increase

To say that I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. To say that I'm grateful to work for a company that cares for its employees and rewards loyalty, commitment and hard work, wouldn't express enough gratitude.

                  Here's to a prosperous 2023.

I've always thought of doing something similar if I ever owned a company.

Every year you're with the company you get a 1% increase in pay. So it would help with retention/reduce turnover. Maybe a higher percentage, but just surprised/disappointed that many companies don't do this. Feels like the bigger the company the less they care because "the company name sells itself, there will always be people wanting to apply for them".

                          They do it in education.

And if you have more post-graduation credits and a masters you can also get increased pay and move higher steps up in years taught.

EDIT: Though of course, this is because we're paid kibbles 'n bits for fifteen years.

Funny enough, a small part of me would consider doing a month straight of 4 day work weeks (while getting paid for 5) over having a full week off (depending what I have planned).

The other thing is when I'd actually take that day off. I don't mean Friday/Mondays so I get 4 day weekends every other week, I mean if that day off is Monday, Friday, or something else.

Monday is nice because it means your first day of the week is already Tuesday, but sucks because you're coming back when everyone is already adjusted back to work from the weekend off.

Friday is nice because you still have a regular work week, but it feels more like you're ending sooner since you're done on Thursday (so the weekend "begins" a day earlier rather than Monday which feels like the weekend extends, if that makes sense).

Though, Wednesday wouldn't be the worst day either because the week just gets divided up into two halves. Tuesday and Friday both will have that Friday feel, although Thursday will feel like a Monday.
