Speaking of WalMart and Christmas, one near me has the entire outdoor section transformed into the "Christmas Shop". Trees, lights, ornaments, stuff to put in your yard etc.

    It isn't even October yet.

Maggie Smith passes away at the age of 89.

Best known for Downton Abbey and of course Harry Potter.

It's crazy, I was just reading something about her yesterday. Apparently she worked with Daniel Radcliffe before Harry Potter and she was the one who suggested him to the producers when they were casting. On and off screen she looked after him.

Sad now realizing the major adults in that series are dead (Rickman died in 2016, Gambon died a year to the day before Maggie died in 2023, Coltrane died in 2022)

But those adults are obviously a huge reason why the main kids in that movie turned out fine. Having good role models/mentors to guide them when they only started filming this at age 9 or so goes a long way.

So much truth. Knowing what we know now about the 1990s/2000s and the ways that kids were manipulated and mistreated in the television/film business, I appreciate stories of good people stepping up and being mentors to kids.

Not just the 90s and 00s, but most of the history of tv/films when child actors are involved. Judy Garland is the earliest I can remember, but there's obviously so many examples.

The stories about the obvious in recent decades like Disney and Nickelodeon shows the ugly side of what child actors have to deal with. When you have producers who are horrible people, parents who are desperate to get their kid on tv, and kids who have no idea what's going on, that's when things get out of control. Who do they even have to turn to?

One show I love seeing what happened to the kid actors is Boy Meets World. You had the main 3 kids (plus Eric who was a bit older) but then you had a strong adult cast around them who were like real life parental figures for them too, and they've all grown up to be down to earth people (there's bound to be a few dark clouds over any experience as even this show had a few, and even a fallout years later between some people, but compared to most shows, this seems so small).

Yup, and it's great to see just how close Danielle, Rider, and Will have remained over the years.

Unrelated, but every few months I check and see if William Daniels is still alive and kicking, and indeed he still is! 97 years old and counting. Mr. Feeny will outlive us all!

Not just that, his wife is also in her 90s I believe.

Betty White and Bob Barker almost did it, I hope Feeny gets to 100.

I had a weird moment today and it's probably relatable, or maybe not who knows. I went to kill a bee in my apartment, and he dropped and got wedged and I tried to use the edge of my swatter to finish him off, but he was too squished into a crevice...

So this poor bastard is just stuck there forever, can't escape, can't move, just stuck. I started to feel claustrophobia on behalf of the bee. Like, that would be a terrible slow death, just stuck in an enclosed spot and you can't do anything but wait endlessy for death

Again, I hate bees and I'm gonna kill him no matter what, but the idea of him being stuck in that spot made me sad. So I got a toothpick and rescued him from the crevice, and then squished him anyway.

It's like, I want him to die, just not suffer. Is that weird?

Definitely not, and I think things like roach traps are cruel and barbaric.

I'll attempt to kill a fly if it's in my classroom, because it disrupts myself and the kids until it's gone. I'll kill ants because it just leads to thousands more. I don't kill spiders or cockroaches, though. I trap them in a cup and set them outside. Bees often don't really bother me if I don't move, and being at risk of extinction I'd prefer not to kill them if possible.

Is There A Doctor In The House?

Is there a doctor in the house? I know I should seek professional medical help butI'm a stupid man. I have a nasty cut on my ankle that really requires stitches but I don't want to go to the doctor. My biggest fear is serious infection and I would like to avoid gangrene. I put a ton of neosporin and bandaged it up really well but I want to put rubbing alcohol or peroxide on it as well. I feel like one will burn really bad but the other I would feel nothing. Maybe I should down a couple or three shots of Makers Mark , bite the bullet and put on both. You don't have to tell me I need to go to the emergency room asap, I know that but I am a stupid man and right now its not an option I'm interested in.

Edit - my question is, which won't burn, rubbing alcohol or peroxide?

Needless to say, you should go to an emergency room.

That said, I think peroxide is the least likely to burn.

Thanks, I had a bad run in with impetigo about six or seven years ago on my legs and I couldn't remember which one burned so bad. I felt like it was peroxide that burns so bad. I think I'm just going tpo use both. I'll keep a close watch for the next few hours and see if I need to go the er.

                              Now, to answer your question:
                              • Rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) will definitely burn when applied to an open wound. It’s harsh on tissue, so while it kills bacteria, it also causes a lot of pain and can damage healing tissue.

                              • Hydrogen peroxide doesn’t usually burn as badly as alcohol, but it can still sting. It’s less harsh on tissue but can still delay healing by damaging healthy cells if used repeatedly.

Both can help disinfect, but they're not ideal for long-term wound care because they can interfere with healing.

Given that you’ve already applied Neosporin and bandaged it, that’s a good start. Keep the wound clean, change the bandages regularly, and keep an eye on signs of infection (redness, swelling, heat, pus, etc.). If you notice anything like that, you might have no choice but to seek help, whether you want to or not.
