2025 has started off in a blaze for my family. I got a call from my neighbor earlier that the house was on fire. He said not to hurt myself getting there as it was already fully engulfed, but all I could think about was my pets. I still got there within three or four minutes, beating all the fire trucks there, but it was too late. I lost all of them and nearly everything I own.

I keep a mask in my vehicle at all times that I still have from being a first responder for awhile. I couldn't get the door to unlock or turn for whatever stupid reason, so I kicked it in and found two of my cats in the hallway upstairs before having to come out because of the heat. At that point, fire was there and wouldn't let me reenter.

It was bad enough that four different stations from the area responded. The fire investigator has already finished and they declared it accidental, which I already knew that. It started downstairs in my daughter’s room, most likely at the plug her television was plugged into, then spread up to the second floor [where the cats were] and out from there. I am telling all my family that it started in the laundry room nexted to hers so she will not be upset or blame herself for the loss of our cats, as well as her gerbils and fish. It appeared to me and fire that they all died to smoke inhalation faily quickly as none of them were burned where they were laying.

Life really lacks merit sometimes. Hug and love on your pets every chance you get.

Make sure your homeowners insurance is paid on time every month. Thankfully, the house is insured and mine is current. I have heard of insurance companies using late payments or whatever else they can to not pay people in the past.

I have many instruments, studio equipment, drones, surveillance equipment, firearms and shell-loading equipment, computers, televisions, and other gadgets to replace, but nothing can take our memories. It was my mother's house [who passed away in 2020] and I was going to build a larger home eventually, but I reckon whoever is pulling life's strings wanted to give me a slight push toward that construction.

A large old chest my grandfather built that contains pictures, documents and other evidence of my family lineage to the Crocketts did survive, thankfully, and likely because of where and how I keep it hidden. In it are also heirlooms from Choctaw family and old family friends, including numerous journal entries discussing the period of time that the Nail side of my family helped hide and house many Choctaw brothers and sisters that were avoiding being taken during the early 1830s in what would later be recognized as the Trail of Tears.

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry to hear this. I can't imagine what you are going through. I'm so sorry for your loss of your pets. Thank God you and your family were not injured. You are in my prayers.

Figured I'd check out the Spotify 2024 AI Wrapped stuff everyone's been complaining about the last month.

I actually liked it. It's literally just AI voices summing up musical data on you. It's creepy at times how advanced the AI stuff can be, but it's also cool to think about.

Why is anyone complaining about this? I just listened to mine, and it's like "whatever." I see absolutely nothing to whine about.

For being AI I thought it flowed really well. Since my top song was by my top artist they really only talked about one person, which made me seem kind of obsessed. Not a huge fan of that aspect but that's on me.

I'm rewatching the Star Trek Kelvin Timeline trilogy this weekend, and I find it funny that both Leonard Nimoy and Chris Pine act in a franchise with characters containing the names Leonard McCoy and Christopher Pike.

Looks like bluesky is the new thing/alternative to twitter/X.

I'll give it a shot, but it'll really only take off if all these big brands move over there, specifically sports leagues and teams to the point where you'll see content posted regularly there.

Signed up for bluesky. Definitely has that old school Twitter feel and look, but there is barely anyone there of who I follow for baseball (only have look at baseball so far) so a work in progress.

Signed up for bluesky. Definitely has that old school Twitter feel and look, but there is barely anyone there of who I follow for baseball (only have look at baseball so far) so a work in progress.

It'll take awhile to get to that point, if it ever happens. Feels like they are at least partially still in the "I'm here as a protest to twitter" phase of people signing up. Threads had that going for a while, and eventually people stopped viewing it as different enough from a leadership standpoint.
