You can't smell through an ad, so instead perfume ads try to describe what the fragrance is trying to "achieve" through movement/action, but so many of them seem to fall short.

That said, this one is a thing of beauty.

Can say same about most ads. It either makes no sense or is just repetitive.

    Toothpaste ad:
Our toothpaste fights/prevents cavities better than the next leading brand
*Shows animation of whiter teeth with their toothpaste vs yellower teeth with the next leading brand*

    Car ad:
Our latest car is the fastest, safest, most reliable to date
*Video plays showing a car randomly driving through a desert or winding road*

It's crazy to think but now that the winter solstice and shortest day is over and passed , the days will actually start getting longer now. It's counter intuitive to how you'd think it would be. You'd think the days wouldn't start getting longer until February or March.

Funny thing about that which I never realized until now (I won't post this in the "didn't realize until just now" thread) is that even though it was the first day of winter, I know it's the shortest day of the year and all, but I always took that to mean the earliest sunset. Turns out the earliest sunset of the year is a few days before that. Monday or so was the actual earliest sunset. So the sunset has been getting later for almost a week already.

It's what makes going back to the regular routine post new years seem better in a way because sunset is about 15-20 minutes later than it was during the last full week of work you had.

That's about the only good thing about January/February. The eventual snowstorms and all that aren't the enjoyable parts even if the sun goes down much later.

A sign of the times, MTV in Canada is shutting down.

To be fair, the network is pointless nowadays and isn't anything like what made it popular, with YouTube and other things replacing the need for the original mtv. But still weird to see.

There's LOTS of changes happening over here in terms of channels being shut down, some rebranded, shows moving around (one of which is going from premium streaming only to now back on cable tv which isn't as common to see).

The future of tv broadcasting has already been changing, but could start changing even more since lots of the current tv deals were likely negotiated before Netflix/Amazon/HBO/Apple and so on started really pushing for current tv rights and not just a place to air old shows/movies or shows made specifically for them.

I would say, about 6 to 8 years ago my cable provider dropped MTV and I was besides myself, I was so mad. And 5 seconds after actually thinking about it I was like: "when exactly was the last time you watched MTV on purpose?". And I was like "that's true"

And it crystallized the sentiment where I (lots of people?) want everything to stay the same, but also wanna enjoy anything new I might like (how exactly everything around me should go on about to satisfy this need/want remains a thing of mystery).

It is like when stores at the mall started to close and/or change. I would get so angry. Toys "R" Us closes, I go apoplectic. "Wait, when was the last time you went to Toys "R" Us and actually bought something? Oh that's right, the should stay open so you can drive-by and see it from the outside, I'm sure that kept the lights going".

Same with EB games or Babbage. "You don't go there anymore, outside of maybe a 10 minute stop to walk around and don't buy anything, why exactly should they exist? As historical museums of your youth? Of course".

The biggest one, for which I haven't, and probably will never recover, was Borders, and unlike the other ones, on this one I frequently spent a decent amount of money. If anything I was single-handedly keeping Borders afloat In its place now there is an indoor car showroom. Kills me inside every time I go by.

So I want for everything to remain the same, and simultaneously for new stuff to open (in which physical space not sure) to service the stuff I actually buy and need.

Always had this illusion (delusion?) that one day I would go back to the private elementary school I went as a kid (about a 3 minute drive by car) and they would welcome me with open arms (even though I was a pain in the *** the entire time ). I would talk to the headmaster (and founder), even though when I graduated she was already like 70, and we would reminisce and she would tell that, even if I was undisciplined, she always knew I was smart, that I had made it and they were so proud of me. School closed around the pandemic.

I can feel myself growing older by the day these days, lol. It’s hard to balance staying modern and of the times while also appreciating the past and sticking with what actually works too. Experience does trump all, though. It always has and always will. We all learn in our own time and/or with hindsight or perspective.

Truer words were never spoken. I hate getting old, but the only thing I hate more than that is the alternative.

Figured I'd check out the Spotify 2024 AI Wrapped stuff everyone's been complaining about the last month.

I actually liked it. It's literally just AI voices summing up musical data on you. It's creepy at times how advanced the AI stuff can be, but it's also cool to think about.

Why is anyone complaining about this? I just listened to mine, and it's like "whatever." I see absolutely nothing to whine about.

People are complaining about how AI is taking over the jobs of humans since everything was AI generated, including the "podcast" voices, but isn't every years list just AI created? Don't think someone's manually typing up a list of top songs for every user.

                            I see.

Yeah, this was literally no one's job. If anything, it created work for someone to implement it.
