Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.

There is blame to go around but for better or worse our society is too individualistic and even rebellious to sustain a long term quarantine. It's a trait that can be argued is often times to our benefit, but as we have seen the last few months it can hurt us when we need people to make sacrifices for the sake of the community.

A month ago there were people exclaiming that we had flattened the curve so everything was good. But the curve only stays flat so long as we are actively flattening it. Even if we had it beat 3-0, as soon as states called for reopenings, there were wide spread protests of any kind, and people no longer doing things like wearing masks in public in mass... Well a resurgence was kind of inevitable. People here in Georgia had stopped taking this seriously a couple weeks ago and many had stopped wearing masks. It wasn't until Georgia declared a sudden spike in in cases that those masks returned.

I'm not happy with the level of leadership at all levels and the mixed messages that have come all the way down from the WHO, but when I see things like this I just can't pin all of the blame on 1 person or group. My step sister, her husband and their 2 kids moved in with their mom and my dad about a year ago. They live rent free. Their mom has had multiple strokes and just finished her chemo treatments for an advanced stage of cancer the doctors found late last year. She is basically bed ridden. My dad has heart disease and both of them are diabetic. Despite living rent free and knowing that covid is a likely death sentence for both of our parents, this did not stop them from taking a vacation to Florida in early May with the promise to stay away from as many people as they could. We've heard plenty of examples over the last few months about people not caring about health aspect of the pandemic, but when I see this kind of selfishness from someone who is unnecessarily increasing the risks for people they actually love, then it really drives home the point that nothing short of an enforced lock down is going to prevent people from spreading this virus regardless of what anyone says or recommends.

I thought that would be politically slanted in some way but that is hilarious.

            What?

The man (and others) is in a position of power to facilitate and theoretically make coordination between states, emergency agencies and resources, and multiple levels of government more efficient and easier than what the hell ever we've been doing during this pandemic. You don't think the administration could have put out emergency ads detailing lockdown procedures, mask and social distancing standards, etc rather than depending on the "big bad media" to get the messaging around or making the states basically bid against each other for resources on an open market?

Who else are we suppose to look to if not our ****ing elected leadership?

The theaters in my town are opening back up on Friday showing some older movies. One of the theaters in a town about 45 minutes from me is also doing the same thing. The theater I normal go to in a town about 30 minutes from me is going to open a little later on July 10 and sounds like they are also going to do thee same thing. I really want to go go to the movies and I am not worried. I work in the public and am around like hundreds of people a day. If I get the virus I get the virus. I never got sick before I worked with the public well like 1 time ever 2 years now I get the cold like 4 times a year. So yeah there is really no way for me to avoid it and you can't live in fear. The mask thing I think is silly there have been so many reports that in less you have a special mask that its completely pointless and like 95% of people don't have a special mask mean while there is more and more reports coming out about how its bad to wear a mask for hours and hours. I think its just about controlling us at this point in time.

In a way, mask wearing is about controlling others.

It's about controlling others so you don't spread the virus to others.

Besides people with asthma and other types of breathing issues, please wear a mask for the greater good of others, not for yourself. (not directed at anyone specifically)

Most of the leading scientist, WHO and CDC are recommending you wear a mask in public.

Yes, a normal president would be able to do this.

The media is going to spread whatever they want to spread, as they've wholeheartedly demonstrated.

I don't look to either for leadership about anything. I look to communities, local and state governments if anything, and family.

Part of the problem is the growth in thinking the president---any president----is the only person that matters in matters of governance. Actually, and these regional first waves now indicate it to be true that each state and locality *should* be in charge and the current lightning rod shouldn't be involved. Everyone shut down at the urging of national events and discussion (how could we know otherwise?) but now things are wrecked, open, and just NOW people are seeing things happen there.

Either way, as this has all demonstrated, the overarching point is don't look to government to save anyone or anything.

Amen. Anybody that has seen the federal government operate for the past 25 years knows that they aren't going to do anything meaningful at this point. They are just going to pick a few causes that they are never going to rectify to keep people arguing with each other and do nothing of merit.

That's why I have never understood why people want the federal government having so much power.

Your state and local governments is where stuff actually gets done.

Unfortunately that’s not how pandemic response works.

The Federal Gov’t sets the tone for how pandemic responses will go and it’s up to the States to implement procedures to protect its people based on the information given from the TOP.

That's not necessarily true. The President can be "authoritative" and direct states how they should respond to this virus.

There's also federalism, where the President leaves the states with the authority to respond to the virus however they see fit with the federal government intervening only if the state asks for help. This would be the best response to this particular pandemic.

The problem is we have a cluster**** of both scenarios.

And regarding the masks. It doesn't help that Fauci came out and stated we didn't need masks, and then later said "oh yea, I lied. We do need masks."
