I think I need to back away from this. I just heard that some guy was on the Joe Rogan show and he said in the next few months we could be looking at about 500,000 deaths in America.

Pitt, Duquesne, and a number of other local colleges have gone to online only classes for the weekend. Pitt students (who are on spring break this week) were told to stay home if they have that option and spring break has been extended another week to allow faculty to prepare for the switch to online only.

Got the email from Penn State today notifying all classes are going online until April 6 (at the earliest). Students are "strongly discouraged" from returning to campus or off-campus housing, although facilities remain open to staff and faculty at this time.

I'm already an online grad student so no change for me. However, I work at a community college and I wonder how long before we do the same. I guess one advantage is we don't have housing to worry about.

Yeah that’s what I listened to last night to get the 96M/48M/.5M numbers I posted earlier.

That’s really not that many for a country of what, 350M? Deaths, that is. And I think that was citing the global statistics, too.

I think it’s good to have a grasp on the magnitude. A lot of folks are gonna get this. Some worse then others. But still such a small percent will be fatal. It’s hard not to compare to the flu... there will be more cases by volume but a similar fatality rate. So still something to take serious and take the precautions we’re seeing being put in place but not something to lie awake all night thinking about. Mindful of but not consumed by. It’s like an advanced version of the flu in terms of numbers.

Sounds like the guy from, I think, the national hospital association. Last week he mentioned a worst case scenario of ~100m infected and 500k deaths.

In Minnesota there’s a guy in his 30s who waited over a week after symptoms to seek treatment and he has a bad case. Was in critical condition last time I heard yesterday. Didn’t hear he has any underlying medical issues, but you never know with privacy laws.

The actions to limit large gatherings of people that are now happening is a good thing. Since it’s past the point of containment, the goal is now to mitigate. It will be very weird to see March Madness in front of limited family only.

NCAA just confirmed the Men's and Women's tournaments will be held without fans.

This will be a huge financial impact to the areas where the tournaments are being held. I know many of these cities rely on the boost that these tournaments bring to their areas.

Also will be interesting to see how teams play with almost no one in the stands, other than close family members.

HUGE financial impact.

In today's culture, everything seems to be taken to extremes. This isn't the end of the world as we know it; it's also not something to just dismiss. Live your life, but be smart and be safe.

I'm definitely going to be more careful at the gym. I've always been good about wiping down machines when I'm done. I'm definitely going to be as considerate for myself and wipe down before I start now too.

Too much community sweat. I just use light weights and a bench press at home but I'm old.

If I was more serious I'd go home with a BowFlex or a SoloFlex.
