I just saw the Simpsons episode everyone is talking about from 1993.

What another crazy prediction from The Simpsons. Even saying it'll be a pandemic similar to having the flu.

And Marge goes to stock up on food but gets arrested (although in this case, it was because she was tired and didnt realize she put an item in her pocket).

That's why we need parks and things like that to be shut down. Otherwise you have those people packing into the grocery store every day AND continuing on to various other gatherings.

People have to eat, they can't go 14+ days without food in the pantry, and that's why it is an acceptable risk to keep those facilities open whereas having a basketball court or something like that open, encourages non-essential gatherings.

Some stores here like Aldi's are enforcing the "social distancing" bit at registers. Others don't seem to pay attention to it and let people mill around the store.

As of this moment, Johns Hopkins estimates 666,211 confirmed cases of coronavirus worldwide. The world population is estimated to be 7.8 billion.

According to math, 0.0085% of the world population is (or has been, or was) infected. The numbers should push over 1/100th of a percent in the next day or two.

The fascinating thing to me is how under-reported are the cases? It's just a wild *** guess, but if there are 50x as many cases as have been reported (total guess based on absolutely nothing concrete), then we'll be nearing 0.5% infected soon. Quite a ways to go before herd immunity, but also a very huge number continuing to get larger.

That's the thing about these numbers too. Not everyone who has it knows they have it or will want to go to a doctor about it.

I moved to Tampa late last year.

However, I came back home to NJ for work reasons 10 days ago.

Should be a fun time when I drive back down in a week or two.

I'm sure that definitely must be the case in northern Italy. If you have a mild/moderate case of it, why would you go to an overcrowded hospital full of people who are much more sick than you unless you absolutely have to? I would actually be afraid to go.

You're better off just staying home in self isolation. I've got to believe there are thousands in this category and they will never show up in the official numbers. That's why I think it's important to report on the number of people in the hospitals and the IC units.

Not just for those reasons, but also people either dont know they have it, try getting better on their own, or simply dont want to be another statistic (especially with these numbers being so localized).

Look at data for anything. Even something as simple as the flu. I've never gone to a doctor to see about an illness like that before (knock on wood). Doesnt mean I never got sick. I just manage to get better on my own/with regular medicine. I dont count as part of the statistic, as I'm sure is the case with many who do get sick.

Well, there may be some people taking the social distancing a little too seriously. Was walking to Giant Eagle on the right side (inside) of the sidewalk and a jogger going the same direction as well as a couple walking in the other direction actually went out into the street around the parked cars to pass. I don't think it matters if you're quickly passing by someone, just don't be remaining in close proximity for an extended period of time.

On a related note, Giant Eagle had TONS of Klondikes. There were 4 case sections full of them including 1 each full of Reese's peanut butter cup and Krunch. The Reeses PB cup were advertised as new, but I could've sworn they've been around for a while while the Krunch were 3/$10. The didn't have the Oreo ice cream sandwiches I was looking for so I got the 3/$10 Krunch Klondikes.

Also picked up a new variety of Cheerios, Oat Crunch

The issue is what if other kids want to join in? People don't know who families are and aren't. It's too hard to police that. So instead of relying on people to use their brains, we have to overreact and ban everything to keep people safe because otherwise nature would have eliminated them already.

I think unless someone has been living under a rock, they would know they can't join in. My point was it's a small number - under 4. Spread out. Outside. Other people would just wait their turn. No games.

And who going to be out there to enforce other people wait their turn ? Who going to enforce people not play an actual game ? Unless there is a cop sitting out there 24/7, people going to do what they want. Much like all age groups still be coming into stores reserved for senior hour.

Pearl Harbor involved 2,403 American fatalities (according to Wikipedia). Coronavirus 2020 is going to top that easily before the day is through.

Grisly milestones in the days/weeks/months ahead.

Will be more than 9/11, US Armed Forces deaths in the Afghan War (2001), Iraq War (2003).

Depending on how it goes (social distancing, testing, vaccines etc.) we are talking Vietnam War (58,318) level of deaths in the US. Hopefully it doesn't approaches anything close to that.

An expert survey conducted ~2 weeks ago forecasted 200K deaths in the U.S., although with a *very* wide range of possibilities. Revised slightly upward to 246K this week. But Dr. Fauci's estimate of 100K+ deaths is broadly in line with the consensus.https://t.co/oMWfVdQVVd
