This has been an up and down month. We went out of the FA Cup in the first round because we got dranw against Chelsea again, who sre very difficult to get anything against. We also lost to Liverpool and Bournemouth and only just beat Stoke. However, Zivkovic is back from injury and we switched up the attacking options in this window to try and get this team kick started again. The win against Aston Villa proved that, with our £3m signing Castaignos achieving a hattrick in his first game. With the addiction of Charlie Austin and Welliton up front, I am hoping this second half of the season can change the game, leading us to a Europa League spot.

Many thanks for reading. Any comments or suggestions are very welcome

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

I just pruned through my squad and noticed that I'm going to have quite a bit of buying and selling to do this summer. I have desperate needs at CB, LB and CAM which I want to address with quality players, and I'm also going to need a strong bench if I want to achieve anything in the Europa League. Unless the board gives me a healthy budget that I can add to by selling deadwood, I may have to consider parting with Bernardeschi or Cataldi to stay competitive. I'd get about €20 million for Bernardeschi and €12 million for Cataldi, and it makes sense on the realism front for a newly-promoted team to have to sell the best players. To make the transition a little easier, I'm using a first team with just a single on-loan player: Da Costa; Douglas, Maietta, Oikonomou, Morleo; Bešić*, Zuculini; Bernardeschi, Cataldi, Mancosu; Cacia.

The team is coming together nicely. Bit worried about your depth though. I hope you don't run into many problems but knowing FIFA you will. Only 5 months to survive until January.

It all started off so well with Townsend starring in a beating on City. Then it went dramatically downhill from there. A lot of high scoring games that you just can't seem to come out on top in. You brought in some fresh options up front for decent prices and Castaignos did extremely well in his first game and I hope he continues like that for you!

A lot of draws and only a couple of losses. If you can manage to start turning some of those draws into wins then you should secure the title with ease. Damn, imagine what you could have done with the Bernardeschi money! At least he is loyal though and he can now become a cornerstone in your building of the team. Good luck against Juve and I hope you can reach the final.

          Nov 2018.png

This was the first month where we struggled a bit for from in the league as we only picked up 1 win from 3 and lost the vital top of the table clash against Dortmund, an 8 goal thriller. I was disappointed with the performance as we gave it our all but just couldn't get back into the game. I was fuming that we conceded 5 goals especially as that was all we had conceded all season but I can't complain about the goals, they were all good finishes by some top quality players. The Champions League went much better though with another 2 wins which meant that we had secured not only qualification to the knock out stage but also the top spot.

          Dec 2018.png

We bounced back from the Dortmund defeat in terrific form with 3 wins and 1 draw keeping 4 clean sheets in the process, which was vital after conceding 5 against Dortmund. Calhanoglu and Draxler are running the show for us at the moment and are scoring close to 1 every 2 which is a remarkable record for a midfielder. Goretzka has slotted straight back into the team and it is as if he was never gone, carrying on with that great early season form and will be a vital player for us in the title race. We finished the Champions League group stages in the same way in which we started with a win. As we had top spot confirmed, I was able to play a lot of the youngers and they done well, with academy graduate Francois Maric netting the only goal of the game. We also went through in the cup with a narrow 1-0 victory over FSV Frankfurt who played well and were unlucky not to go through after they wasted several glorious chances but i'm not complaining.

How many of the FIFA 16 new career mode features do you think will make it to lastgen consoles? The new pre-season tourneys and player training seem cool, but still don't know if it would be enough to warrant buying Nextgen.

That reasoning is what is making me wait until I have a next gen console before I get '16.

                Contract rebel goes, Gornell comes

At the price of £50.000 along with Aaron Wildig (CM), English striker Terry Gornell has joined from Cheltenham Town on a 3 year contract. Wildig had reportedly turned down a contract extension and with it running into it's last year, Mellon decided to cash in on him now rather than lose him for free in January on a pre-contract. The deal is said to have totaled to approximately £210.000, Shrewsbury's most expensive move of this window. The 24 year old is the Shrew's 3rd of the summer after the additions of Ryan Haynes from Coventry and Vitalijs Maksimenko from Brighton.

                  MOTM: Holla

Jamieson pulled down a ball over the top and he went through on goal to slot the ball into the bottom left corner as the keeper charged out at him.

                  POR - Çiftçi 41', Hahn 45', Pack 75'
                  MOTM: Pack

Pereira found Çiftçi up the middle and his first shot attempt was saved, but he was able to tap the rebound into the net for his first goal after returning to Portsmouth. Russell attacked the right side of the goal and sent a low ball across the face of the goal for Hahn to direct back into the net. Williams played a ball perfectly over the top for Pack to push forward into the box and then slot it to the far post in the bottom left corner.

                  Sheffield Wednesday 1 - 2 Portsmouth FC

Jamieson got the ball on a break away and attacked the right side of the goal to slot it across to the bottom left corner. MOTM: Pack

Martinez found Cummings running into the right side of the box and he took a touch before firing a shot past the keeper into the top left corner. Çiftçi took the ball away from the defender and went through on goal and decided to go for it himself and powered it past the keeper into the top corner on the near post. Webster slid through Çiftçi's legs as he cut the ball inside and conceded a penalty that Pack was able to tuck away into the top left corner.

Capital One Cup - The new season kicked off with the Capital One Cup where we had a deep run last season. We had a surprisingly tough time against Luton Town, but still advanced on a goal from Jamieson. We then traveled North to face Millwall where we fell behind but scored late to force extra time where we won it. Our next round opponent will be Premier League side Everton. It's shame to draw a Premier League opponent at this stage when there are still so many Football League sides left, but we are confident that we can get a result especially since it is at home.

League Play - We are off to a strong league start, taking all 9 points available and only conceding 1 goal so far. Our attack is getting the job done so far, and our defense is already looking improved over last season. Anything short of a promotion will be a disappointment.

Bradford Jamieson IV - Bradford got off to a great start, but he suffered a broken toe that will keep him on the sidelines for 2 months. It's a shame since he has proven himself as our most consistent goal scorer over the past 2 seasons, but new signings Nadir Çiftçi and Lars Veldwijk should be more than capable of filling the void while he is out.

@Luke: November was a tough month in the league but good in the Champions League. December was much better with Draxler and Calhanoglu performing very well. Its tight at the top of the table so it'll be interesting to see how it turns out.

@Tex: Great month! All wins and top of the table. Shame about Jamieson picking up that long layoff. He was looking like he was getting some form. Promotion is looking like a possibility right now.

Swansea Season 2 - February and March Update

                      February

                      Arsenal 3 - Cavani 12', Cazorla 50', 57'
                      Swansea 1 - Gudelj 21'

                      Swansea 3 - Shelvey 8', Austin 70', Montero 86'
                      Newcastle United 2 - Lopez 63' (OG), Sissoko 89'

                      Manchester City 3 - Jovetic 12', 47', Toure 69'
                      Swansea 2 - Austin 2', Townsend 90'

This wasnt the best mont, but I did face two top teams. Managing to score a few goals bit can't beat the teams above me. I need to get more consistency in my results.

                      March

                      Swansea 2 - Austin 4', 66'
                      West Brom 0

                      Sunderland 2 - Cardozo 62', 69'
                      Swansea 4 - Montero 19', Gudel 32', Castaignos 45', 59'

                      Swansea 1 - Austin 87'
                      Southampton 2 - Pelle 10', 90'

March was a good month. We finally got a clean sheet (hardly had any this season) and battered Sunderland, other than Cardozo scoring. The Southampton game was a tough one to take because just before, the board said I could get fired!. Just as its goign well, I may be out of a job and honestly, that was playing on my mind when playting Southampton. I have 8 games left of the season and am 7 poinbts off of a Europa League spot. Not sure if its possible, but I will keep trying and hopefully, a miracle can happen.

                      League Table
                      1. Arsenal 79
                      2. Chelsea 64
                      3. Liverpool 64
                      4. Man City 57
                      5. Man u 51
                      6. Everton 46
                      7. Spurs 44
                      8. SWANSEA CITY 44

                        Swansea Season 2 Update

I am afraid that I have been sacked from Swansea. I did everything in my power to get results and we were actualy in good form, winning two games in a row and getting a draw against Everton, who are a tough side. And despite actually drawing level with Mancherster united in 5th position, the board did not feel comfortable with me at the healm. It is a sad time, as I felt the club was starting to get better, but this has been a very difficult job from the start. I am pleased to tell you however that Leicester City requested a new manager to help their promotion hopes back to the Premier League and I have taken the job. I am looking forward to my new role and am hoping to have better luck this time around.

How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

You guys know how passionate I am about Guadalajara and so, I wanted to share this. Now I know I get a lot of stick for my transfer activity, all in good fun of course, so I wanted to show you where I get it from. This is Guadalajara's starting lineup today:

10 out of the 11 players on the field are Guadalajara youth graduates. The only exception is Carlos "Titan" Salcedo, who actually began his youth career with Guadalajara before leaving to the Tigres' youth academy, then moving to the MLS where he made his professional debut with Real Salt Lake, and then returning to Guadalajara on a permanent transfer choosing to return to the club instead of heading off to Europe. Not only that, but Guadalajara's entire squad is Mexican. No exceptions. A tradition that has stood since the club was founded 109 years ago. Sounds a little bit like how I usually run my clubs in career mode eh?

BUT ANYWAYS, the real reason I wanted to post this is because the team is currently winning 2-0 against Morelia at halftime, with two goals by the captain Omar Bravo, who has just made history and became the team's all-time league top scorer with 123 league goals. I can't even explain how happy I felt to see him celebrate those two goals today. The first because I knew it would be a huge weight off his shoulders to finally score and equalize the team record, and the second because you could see his relief and happiness to surpass it. He had a really great relationship with the late Salvador Reyes who held the record, and Bravo has been dedicating his goals to him showing respect as he pushed to make history himself. The record has stood for well over 40 years, actually I think 50 years, and it's going to be a looooong time before someone else beats the record again. I grew up watching Bravo play, and this is unbelievable for me I can't believe I saw the history as it was being written.

Alright, second half is underway now. You may proceed gentlemen

                            Bologna S01

                            February

We started the month with a trip to Juventus for the first leg of our TIM Cup semi-final. Maietta gave away a penalty in the first half that Tevez put away, but we were really solid for the rest of the match and didn't let the score go past 1-0. Unfortunately, we couldn't add any goals to our side either. We had a 2-1 win at Livorno next with Laribi scoring twice, including a late winner. This was followed by a 1-1 draw with Terni and a 2-1 win over Cittadella, both at home with Laribi scoring all three of our goals. We ended the month with a 2-0 win at Vercelli thanks to goals from Bešić and Morleo.

                            March

The first game was our second TIM Cup semi-final leg. We were sensational in the first half but kept out over and over by Buffon. It looked like we were going to get a late goal to take the match into extra time when Pogba just smashed in this long shot that dipped in past Da Costa. It hurts to go out so close to the final, but we did very well this season in the cup. We made up for the loss by thrashing Crotone 4-0 at home, Mancosu scoring a brace to end his 8-game drought. We had Douglas sent off in a 0-0 draw at Vicenza before beating Avellino 1-0 and Modena 2-1. We ended the month top of the table with 72 points, Catania behind us on 67 and Bari third on 65!

                            April

With just seven games left in the season for the top three teams, we had to win 18 of the 21 points left to guarantee the title under any circumstances. In April we started with a 2-0 win over Pescara, Bernardeschi scoring after a long dry spell. We travelled to Carpi and won 2-1 thanks to Mancosu and Sansone scoring a couple of peachy free kicks, but we had a tight 1-0 loss at home to Bari that added a bit of spice to the run-in. We beat Catania 2-1 away from home with some ease, ending the month with 81 points and three games left to play. Bari are on 77 and Catania on 70, which means we have guaranteed promotion to Serie A but need to get 5 more points to win the title.

                            May

The month started with a trip to Chiavari, where we went 2-0 down before halftime with Bari winning 4-0 at Pescara. We managed to come back strong and win 3-2 thanks to goals from Bešić, Mancosu and Zuculini. We then travelled to Perugia, where a 2-1 win with goals from Cornet and Bernardeschi sealed the title. Bologna have been named champions of Serie B! We will compete in the top flight next season along with Bari and Catania, while Sassuolo and Cesena will be relegated alongside either Parma or Empoli. For the final match of the season, we hosted Brescia in a 2-0 win thanks to a Cornet brace to finish with 90 points from 42 games.

                            Season Wrap

Matteo Mancosu top-scored for us with 24 in all competitions, and Daniele Cacia was our assists leader with a total of 12. Angelo Da Costa kept 14 clean sheets to win the Golden Glove award. Ramiro Cáseres was in top form for Catania to lead the Serie B goals and assists with 21 and 14. We have four player of the year candidates. You can vote for them at http://strawpoll.me/5198477 and check out the squad review below while I prepare the transfers and preseason report for 2015/16.

GK Angelo Da Costa grew +2 overall, but he's 31 and prone to errors. We have a promising GK coming in so I plan to sell while his stock is high. GK Ferdinando Coppola did not play this season due to Da Costa's form, and he will leave the club when his contract expires on June 30.

RB Douglas contributed 7 assists from right back while playing 13 of our 14 clean sheet matches. He will start for us next season, no doubt about it. RB Luca Ceccarelli played very sparingly and failed to oust Douglas from the first team. He will leave when his contract expires on June 30.

CB Domenico Maietta started as a doubtful squad player but finished as our first-choice defender. He's losing physical stats but will play in Serie A. CB Marios Oikonomou has been our most-improved defender with +3 growth overall. I don't see him losing his spot no matter who we bring in. CB Kaan Ayhan made 21 appearances, mostly as a substitute. I felt he was better at CDM than CB, but either way I don't plan to renew his loan. CB Uros Radakovic didn't feature at first because of selection and later due to his attitude. He will be sent out on loan to develop, hopefully.

                            CDM Muhamed Bešić
started every game from January and made us more solid at the back. It doesn't look like we will be able to bring him back. CM Franco Zuculini developed +3 overall playing alongside Bešić, and he will need to perform at a high level if we don't want to get relegated. CM Danilo Cataldi finished with 5 goals and 8 assists in all competitions. I see great things for his future. He'll play CDM next season beside Zuculini. CM Matuzalem quickly lost his spot when it became obvious that he was not suited to my style of play. He retires at the end of the season. CM Federico Casarini didn't feature much in the first half of the campaign but proved his worth after January. He'll be important for us next season. CM Marcel Büchel didn't get as much game time as he'd have liked, but I need him around in case of injuries and suspensions. He may or may not go.

LM Archimede Morleo impressed me after a poor start, but he quickly lost his place as our starting LB. I plan to send him out on loan next season. LM Ibrahima Mbaye had a fantastic run of form since we switched to the 4-2-3-1 formation. I may sign a new LB and play him in attacking midfield.

CAM Gianluca Sansone pulled the strings as our key playmaker, linking up with the attack to start many of our moves. He goes back to Sampdoria. CAM Karim Laribi was great for us. He was the only midfielder to score 10 or more goals, but I don't think we can afford to buy him from Sassuolo.

RW Federico Bernardeschi was sensational. I can't believe we actually got him for nothing. He will definitely start as one of our four attackers. RW Riccardo Improta didn't feature much outside of a few rare substitute appearances, but he grew a bit. We can consider another loan from Genoa. RW Gennaro Troianiello began with promise but lost his place. He's not suited to anything but counter-attacking football. Returns to Palermo.

ST Matteo Mancosu was the star man. He didn't have a good start but really turned it up when he found form. Still our first-choice centre forward. ST Daniele Cacia was crucial to our strategy. He's not prolific but chipped in with a fair few goals. I'll probably sell him if I can get a couple of million. ST Maxwel Cornet impressed me enough to pay his purchase option. I see him as a valuable member of the team, but one who still has to develop. ST Rubén Bentancourt didn't play at all this season despite looking like he could do a decent job. I might keep him around as reserve or loan him out.

Rolando Bianchi is the big name coming back from loan. He could probably be sold for a decent chunk and would free up a chunk of the wage bill, so he is pretty much gone. Martí Riverola also comes back from loan and will feature as a squad player. It doesn't look like I will be getting more than a few million to spend, so it's time to go hunting for bargains and free agents!

Stay tuned for the summer 2015 transfers and preseason report, and please leave your vote for the Bologna player of the year for 2014/15!

@ChicoBass You have a lot of passion for Guadalajara, it's obvious from how you speak so beautifully about their traditions. Always nice to see a club stay true to its roots. I would love to see Chelsea be a little more respectful of the club traditions and develop young players like we used to.

That's horrible news. I think that's the second sacking here in the last couple of weeks. I remember Indiblue got fired from a German club for a poor run of results. Always sucks to see the board behave like a bunch of idiots. Can't wait to see what you do with Leicester.

A good start to your second season in the Championship. You look much stronger with Çiftçi, and Marlon Pack continues to impress us all!

Good job starting off well with Shrewsbury. I was looking at some of the prices you've paid for transfers, and if you are looking for a right back I would suggest Gianluca Pollace from Lazio. I enquired about him in 2015 and they wanted just €70,000 for him!

                              @TTUGuy
I don't think anything other than the new player faces, the presentation for the Bundesliga, and the improved defensive AI are coming to PS3/X360. Those consoles just don't have the necessary power to run the new features.

@JC: That sucks to see you got sacked and especially seeing as you were on the up. Good luck with Leicester. Did the CPU make many changes to the squad?

@SnapKills: Congrats on the title! Unlucky against Juve but it looked like you really put it up to them. I voted for Mancosu as his part in 24 goals no doubt helped to win the league for you. Bernardeschi was a close second though. Good to see you planning for next season already! Thanks for the suggestion on the RB, but I think I'm set for there for now.
