    Notes

    • Sam Baldock is unstoppable. He's on 16 goals in 14 league games, with that figure rising to 21 in all competitions. Fearsome.

    • Jay Emmanuel-Thomas is on just 5 goals, but he leads League One in assists with 7, which is two more than the next best playmaker.

    • Wesley Burns tore his quad and is out for 8 weeks, so Adnan Januzaj makes the bench for the next couple of months.

    • Marvin Elliott has told me that he's homesick for London. I will let him leave in January even though he's captain.

    • Ryan Taylor has asked to leave after making no appearances in our first 14 games, and I have placed him on the transfer list.

    • Nicky Shorey might have joined only in the summer, but he's over 30 and is on £15,000 per week. I could use that wage budget.

    • January targets are Anthony Martial and a top-class keeper to replace Frank Fielding. Jack Butland and Alex McCarthy are targets.

I love getting academy recruits into the team, it really makes it feel personal!
Sounds like you have a couple of really good prospects. Developing even 3 or 4 guys from within saves you a lot of cash in the long run, and you can use that to make your team even better. And you gotta love the feeling of seeing your hard work come to fruit as well.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

        September

        Shrewsbury Town 0-1 Southend United
        Jolley 78'
Surajreet9 was unable to attend the match as he was meeting with the youth scout from Argentina to talk about any new players that could be signed. Luke Prosser was entrusted with the coaching responsibilities.

        Yeovil Town 1-1 Southend United
        Mooy 81'
        Morgan 83'
Southend United drew 1-1 with former Championship side Yeovil Town in league action. The match itself had been a boring affair, with only 4 shots the entire match until the 80th minute. That was when things started getting crazy. Southend piled on the pressure and Aaron Mooy found the back of the net with a superb shot from 25 yards out. Yeovil responded almost instantly through Adam Morgan. The former Liverpool forward capitalized on poor positioning by Špiranović to burst past the defense and leave Bentley no chance, slotting it into the top right corner. Both sides continued to attack and a dubious offside call denied Southend the winning goal. Agostinho Cá was given a yellow after ferociously arguing with the referee.

        Southend United 2-0 Chesterfield
        Leonard 23', Munir 48'
It was yet again a face off between the promoted sides as Southend United met Chesterfield in League One. Southend dominated proceedings early on and could have got on the scoresheet through Terry Gornell and Matthew Špiranović but they directed their headers wide from 6 yards out. Ryan Leonard pulled Southend forward with a brilliant turn to lose his marker and the 22 year old slotted into the bottom right corner. Chesterfield could not find a way past the brick wall that was Kwakman in defensive midfield and the 17 year old created the second goal, sending a defense splitting pass to Munir and the youngster smashed it into the top corner. Chesterfield then awoke from their slumber and put Southend on the defensive, creating a host of chances and only failed to get goals due to Daniel Bentley. The 20 year old made 7 saves in the last 30 minutes as Southend won 2-0.

        Leyton Orient 1-2 Southend United
        Mooy 18' 53'
        Mooney 60'
Aaron Mooy was the star of the show as Southend United edged Leyton Orient in League One action. Leyton Orient had controlled the opening 15 minutes, forcing Špiranović into some crunching tackles and Bentley into some saves. In the 18th minute, Mooy was fouled outside the box and the Australian took the free kick, bending the ball superbly into the top right corner. After that goal, Leyton Orient struggled to assert any dominance for the rest of the match and Mooy scored off a terrific piece of play. Mooy is sent through on goal before passing it to Gornell. The striker runs and passes the ball to the Australian as Jones runs from the net and he finishes into the open goal. Shockingly, seven minutes later, Leyton found themselves within a goal of an equalizer. Bentley had tried a pass to Špiranović but Mooney intercepted the ball and fired the ball into the back of the net in one touch. Leyton Orient attacked and attacked but were unable to find that elusive equalizer.

        Southend United 2-1 Fulham.
        Munir 9' 26'
        Rodallega 61'
This match was almost identical to the last match. Munir opened the scoring early on after latching on a Chrisantus pass and somehow found space between 3 Fulham players to shoot past Stockdale. Fulham DOMINATED the game. Southend rarely got the chance to attack and when they even had the ball, a Fulham player would take it away instantly. In the 26th minute, on the rare occasion Southend had the ball, John White sent in a cross and caused absolute chaos in the Fulham penalty area. Fulham failed to clear the ball 3 times and Munir attacked the loose ball and fired it into the net. From that point onward, Fulham did not allow Southend ANY time on the ball. They always received the loose ball and easily got past the Shrimpers defense whenever they attacked. They finally got their goal in the 61st minute when Rodallega hit a fantastic volley from 16 yards out into the top left corner. It was one of the best goals of the year. Daniel Bentley won the man of the match for making 18 saves as Southend advanced in the Capital One Cup.

        Southend United 2-0 Bradford City
        Clifford 33', James 60'
Southend United played most of their reserve players for the match and they didn't disappoint, sweeping aside a weak Bradford side 2-0. Conor Clifford opened the scoring with a fantastic 25 yard free kick. There had been pure power in the shot and McLaughlin had been caught off guard. Southend dominated the match and finished the scoring in the 60th minute after Clifford sent in a cross for Luke James to head into the net. Clifford staked his claim for a starting spot with a 9.8 match rating.

        Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-2 Southend United
        Munir 8', Clifford 86'
        McDonald 19', Henry 44'
Surajreet9 described this as "the worst match Southend has played under my tenure." He wasn't far off. Southend may have showed capability to finish chances, having only 3 shots the whole game. However, they had only 35% possession and had recorded a season low of 67% pass accuracy. A shocking amount. Munir had opened up the scoring after Macauley Chrisantus found the former Barcelona B forward with a long pass and he finished with a volley over the keeper's head. It didn't take long for Wolves to equalize. Only 11 minutes. McDonald had been poorly marked by Špiranović and he finished under Bentley to equalize. After that, Southend could not string together passes for their lives and Henry took advantage, intercepting a pass from Ryan Leonard, ran and blasted the ball into the back of the net. Surajreet9 was foaming at the mouth as he saw his team capitulate to second place in the league and yelled at his players for the entirety of the fifteen minutes. Southend came out of the restart playing much better but still well below their best. Conor Clifford, Jacob Murphy and Luke James were thrown on as the Shrimpers attempted to fight back. Who else but the in form Clifford scored after a brilliant pass from Murphy and he hit it instantly to level the game and end a horrible night for the league leaders.

        Thoughts
I have to admit, I need a new formation. I'm snatching wins while being dominated and I'm only being saved by 5 of my players. Mooy, Munir, Clifford, Bentley and Milanov. Chrisantus has tailed off after that awesome start while Leonard hasn't impressed me that much after the season he had last year. The Wolves game seriously changed my mind about how the team is working. Also, sorry Chico, but Gornell is seriously not working for me. I may sell him and Chrisantus and get a new forward that may help me in a formation change. I'll reveal my targets in the November update. Also to everyone, I apologize for the timing of updates. It's been slightly hectic here and I'll be updating for October tonight! Hope you enjoyed reading!

          Northampton
          Season 1
          League 2

          December

          League Objective: Fight for Promotion

          League
          Dagenhame 0 - 1 Northampton
          Nicholls 29’
A match we could have scored more and should have but our strikers are in terrible form at the moment. We played a 3 - 5 - 2 this match and it was nice will keep using it for the next few matches.

          FA Cup
          Port Vale 0 - 1 Northampton
          Tozer 87‘
Close match that was fought out till the end. Tozer who was way out of position latched onto a through pass from Santos and had a clean finish to the bottom corner. Glad there will be no replay this time.

          J. Paint Trophy Area Semi Final
          Northampton 4 - 0 Wolverhampton Wonders
          Marquis 34‘
          Carter 39‘ (PEN)
          Hooper 56‘
          Hooper 81‘

A match that everything went our way with 4 shots on target and 4 goals and we recorded our biggest win yet in this match which is great considering they are in the division above us and that it was in the Area Semi Final.

          League
          Plymouth Argyle 0 - 3 Northampton
          Santos 45‘
          Dickenson 58‘
          Slocombe 73‘ (PEN)

An other match that we played great in and hopefully it continues. Our new 3 - 5 - 2 is working out fantastically and we are now scoring goals like never before AND keeping clean sheets.

          League
          Bury 0 - 2 Northampton
          Hooper 6’
          Marquis 48’

Two great pieces of play result in two goals. Hopefully we can keep winning and have another month on all wins. Glad to beat them this time around compared to last time when we played out a 0 - 0 draw.

          League
          Northampton 1 - 0 Exeter City
          Christian Lopez 24’
Played an excellent match with the youngsters who again showed their potential and we hope they can continue to do well. Exeter never saw our goal and we played the whole match on their half of the field. Good to pick up 3 points again.

          League
          Mansfield 1 - 2 Northampton
          Christian Lopez 11’
          Kuffour 30’
          Nicholls 62’

It was our first time to concede a goal in 7 games which is great for defense and we have scored more goals this month that any other month and we still have a match to play. Kuffour’s goal was a beautiful goal where he dribbled two of our defenders and rounded Slocombe with easy to have an easy finish all by himself.

          League
          Hartlepool 0 - 2 Northampton
          Moore 12’
          Langmead 88’

Both goals were headers that the goal scorer was completely unmarked and had a simple finish but nun the less it was a close match that Hartlepool just didn’t take their chances. Good to finish a month undefeated in all competitions.

          TABLE:

          1. Northampton - 63 pts
          2. Portsmouth - 50 pts
          3. Bristol Rovers - 44 pts
          4. Chesterfield - 43 pts
          5. Rochdale - 42 pts
          6. Plymouth Arygle - 41 pts
          7. S****horpe Utd - 39 pts

(Northampton and Portsmouth on 24 games everyone else on 25)

          YOUTH ACADEMY:

          Joe Connell - Age 15 - CB - England - Ovr. 42-46 - Pot. 79-89
          Ruben Fenlon - Age 15 - LM - England - Ovr. 43-47 - Pot. 71-79

          Q. You had your worst month last month and now you have arguable your best month, what changed?

          A. Our formation changed to a 3 - 5 - 2 and I think it has helped us to have two strikers up top and Hooper as made the spot his own the month he has been fantastic.

          Q. Your first match in January is against Torquay Utd with manager Vladimir Orlov are you worried at all?

          A. Of course not! They may not be in last place now but they still have only scored 23 goals in the league which is fourth fewest and we have the best defense only conceding 9 all season, if they score on us I will be disappointed. And about Mr. Orlov he sure likes to talk a lot for someone who claims to sleep through his own clubs games if I were on the Torquay Utd Board he would be gone in a heart beat.

          Q. In your match verse Plymouth Argyle your goal keeper Slocombe took a penalty kick. Mr. OJ, Plymouth’s manager, didn’t seem that happy about it after the match do you have any comment about that?

          A. Yes I don’t know why he was upset. Slocombe had nothing to do all match so when he asked me if he could take the penalty I said yes. It was not meant to be disrespectful or to make anybody angry.

          Q. The transfer market is set to open do you have any target or anybody you are trying to offload?

          A. As of now the only person we are trying to sell is Ramy Rabia because of his wage as for buying we will not buy anybody unless we sell some one for a good price and to then bring in a replacement.

          Q. Last interview you said you would try and sell Chris Hackett is this not the case anymore?

          A. Chris has reportedly agreed to join Yeovil Town when his contract expires. He will continue playing with us until his departure is June.

Remember anything I said about your manager is nothing personal just trying to make it a little more interesting.

            Match 26

            Birmingham 1-2 Coventry
            Huws 14
            Clarke 45
            Eccleston 71

            Coventry 1-0 Bristol City
            Campbell 86 (PEN)
Indi Blue had his team set up brilliantly in defence, we couldn't break them down but when Gornell was tripped after tricking the defender with a stepover, DJ Campbell stepped up to convert the penalty.

            FA Cup Round 3

            Coventry 3-1 Crewe
            Dagnall 19
            Grant 31
            Eccleston 41
            Dagnall 69

            Simmed.

            Match 28

            Brighton 2-4 Coventry
            Donaldson 7
            Donaldson 49
            Lingard 68

            March 90
            Azogue 90

Donaldson curled in early on to give us the lead and his second and third goal came either side of a wonderful strike by Jesse Lingard. A brilliant hat trick. March slotted in but Azogue busted the net to make sure of victory.

            Match 29

            Coventry 1-1 Blackpool
            Moussa 4
            Haroun 45

            Match 30

            Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 Coventry
            Clayton 23
            Eccleston 41

Clayton beat the defence before slotting in from a tight angle to give us the lead. Eccleston made it 2, slotting in from close range.

            FA Cup Round 4

            Coventry 1-0 QPR
            Seaborne 39
Seaborne got the only goal of the game, excellently heading in from a corner.

            Press Conference

You made 2 signings, a loan signing and a Bosman agreement. Can you explain?

Of course. Dylan (McGeouch) was on loan with us during our League 1 campaign and was excellent. He was unused at Celtic so I asked for a loan deal, which I got. He adds improvement in the right-midfield position. Carlton (Cole) will join at the beginning of next season. He brings Premier League know-how into the side and will be crucial next season, whether it be in this division or the Prem.

Whether it be in the Prem? Are you looking towards promotion then?

It would be silly not to when we are in such a good position after 30 games. If I were to say we will not get promoted when we are in a playoff position, then I would lose respect from players and fans, and the players wouldn't have the confidence. I believe we can do it.

You failed to sign young Diego Poyet. Why is that?

The youngster was someone I had been looking at for a while but I decided not to go through with the deal. Simple as that.

            No standings, away from PS3

I recommend the 4-5-1 attack, which I use at Bristol. Excellent for building up without losing the ball, and you'll always have a man to pass to when you reach the opponent's box.

You may have won this round, but the war ain't over! Seriously though, good results this month. Hope you can earn promotion.

So until FIFA 15 comes out, I'm just going to enjoy myself on the game and keep you all posted as to what happens. No more storylines, no more press conferences, no more creative writing. Just transfers, results and stats. Kinda like how Moose goes about his West Ham career.

I know you'll all be a bit upset, but I'd rather not ruin FIFA for myself altogether.
I think I'm headed in a similar direction. It's not that I'm bored of FIFA but that I feel like I'm more concerned on my posts rather than enjoying the game. I'll probably continue posting these with Press Conferences but don't be surprised if there are some posts without them and look similar to Indi's posts.

As you mentioned FIFA 15 I feel like I should get the conversation started and see which teams people are thinking about starting with. I'm pretty sure I'll use a Turkish League team to celebrate their debut in FIFA. I'd like to go with Besiktas. Remember them, the team who dominated Turkish Football for years and were beaten 8-0 by Liverpool. I like the look of their team and it would be interesting to have a go with them I think.

I decided to mess around with Career Mode and put the USMNT(Brazil 23) in the BPL and see how they fare. I plan to do some creative writing to go hand in hand with a YouTube commentary for FIFA 15, most likely for a Player Career mode, since I miss doing those back when I was younger on IGN with MLB The Show.

                    ROAD TO RECOVERY
                    SEASON 3

                    Match 31

                    Burnley 5-2 Coventry
                    Vokes 2
                    Gornell 21
                    Wallace 33
                    Vokes 42
                    Ings 61
                    Stanislas 66
                    Campbell 73

We got hammered in this match. Vokes chipped the keeper but Gornell equalised on the rebound. However 4 goals by Burnley put us well behind and despite Campbell's header we couldn't equalise.

                    Match 32

                    Bournemouth 1-2 Coventry
                    Lundberg 45
                    Eccleston 45
                    Allsop 90 (OG)

Lundberg headed in the opener but Eccleston equalised with a terrific acrobatic volley. Allsop converted into his own net in stoppage time after a clearance off the line bounce of of him to give us the win.

                    Match 33

                    Coventry 1-1 Derby
                    Bryson 27
                    Barker 82 (OG)

We dominated this match and Derby didn't deserve anything. Bryson smashed in on the rebound but Barker tackled Gornell on the line and put it into his own net.

                    FA Cup Round 5

                    Coventry 2-1 Sunderland
                    Clayton 25
                    Kalou 67
                    Giaccherini 87 (OG)

Clayton opened the scoring, curling in under the keeper. Kalou raced clear of the defence to equalise but when Eccleston hit the bar, it deflected off of Giaccherini into the back of the net to put us in the quarter finals.

                    Match 34

                    Millwall 0-3 Coventry
                    Azogue 7
                    Gornell 58
                    Goodman 76 (OG)

Azogue headed in the opener before Gornell converted a brilliant header from a corner. Goodman scored an own goal, passing back to his keeper who just watched the ball roll past him.

                    Press Conference

A lot of own goals saved you this month. How do you feel about that?

Well I'm not going to complain am I? If your implying my strikers didn't do enough, the own goals that were crucial came from brilliant strikes or great play.

                    League Table

                    5. Coventry 62
                    6. Reading 56

You may have won this round, but the war ain't over! Seriously though, good results this month. Hope you can earn promotion.
Although I haven't used it in this FIFA, it was my go to in 13. Especially in FUT, I would dominate with IF Balotelli and the quick as a flash Welliton sat in CAM behind him in my Russia/Serie A hybrid.

Also, I'm sure there will be more battles to come

As you mentioned FIFA 15 I feel like I should get the conversation started and see which teams people are thinking about starting with. I'm pretty sure I'll use a Turkish League team to celebrate their debut in FIFA. I'd like to go with Besiktas. Remember them, the team who dominated Turkish Football for years and were beaten 8-0 by Liverpool. I like the look of their team and it would be interesting to have a go with them I think.
Turkish League is not new, actually. Both FIFA 10 and 11 had it.

I will probably go with either Burnley or Leicester as my first career, and my second would be in Serie A, either Parma or Sassuolo.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll definitely check it out but I don't have that many wingers so we'll have to see lol. I'll reveal something though. I tried a switch to a 3-5-2 and it seems to have worked quite well. I will spend a couple of matches toying around with the 4-5-1 though. Thanks!

Funny how Gornell isn't working for you, and James isn't working as great with me. I'll admit Gornell was a beast for me when he was playing as lone striker but now that I'm using 2 strikers he hasn't had much impact in front of goal... But I'll get more into that in my next update tonight as well as a possible James sale. Is James still starting with you? He was your top scorer in League 2 right?

I like seeing more people trying out the 3-5-2 here. How are you guys using it? Flat midfield, CDM, or CAM?

Man all this talk about FIFA 15... I'll have to be left behind when you guys move to the new thread. I'm in my 4th season with Wimbledon and still have a long ways to go before winning the BPL. Wouldn't want to leave this career and have to start over in '15. MAYBE if they release Wimbledon's 3rd kit in the new game but I doubt they will since they're a League 2 team. We shall see. In the meantime though, I'll be sticking with '14.

James isn't in my starting line up anymore but he will be if I can sell Chrisantus and Gornell for (wait for it) DONGOU. If I can get Dongou, I can switch to a 4-3-3 with Munir on the left, Dongou on the right, and James in the center. I have a youth player that has good potential and overall already and if I wait for the May 1st update, he will be bumped up to high 60s I'm hoping. He's a RW so that's good. Jolley can be my back up LW and if you guys could recommend a striker who is an all rounder, I'd appreciate it. My budget is ridiculously small though so it has to be someone I can pick up for pennies.

Edit: I am using a 3-5-2 with 2 CDMs and a CAM. James was my top scorer in League 2 last year. He really stepped up after Futács. I forgot to answer your questions lol.
