Any thoughts on the newest iteration? Changes worth the price?

It's tough to say so early, just downloaded and started a beta. One thing I'm curious to see how the game plays without sliders and with a deeper choice of positions. Instead of sliders, you just give each player individual shouts...I'm not sure how well that's gonna work right off the bat.

Has anyone had issues logging into twitter via FM? I can do it on my Mac, but not my PC
Where are you downloading the new facepacks? I have a ton of pictures, but also missing lots.

sortitoutsi.net is where I go. I usually get the latest megapack. There will still be missing pics, but the latest update was done a couple of weeks ago so check it out.

I'm with you Ronaldo on the shouts. I'm starting to get into a test save so I'll keep people informed with how it goes.

First FM14 game I started off unemployed as a Sunday Footballer. Took a job in the Belgian 3rd Division A with Temse after they fired their coach.

I took over the team and we were in 16th (relegation playoff slot) with 14 matches left (out of 34.)

That's how it ended up shaking out. I got 19 points from 14 matches.

Here's how I personally did as the manager.

All in all, not too bad for taking over a decimated squad that was over the wage budget and had to play a few players out of position every couple games.

EDIT: In spoilers just for funsies. I started off terribly until I made one little tiny tweak to my tactic (switching 1 of my CMs from box-to-box to CM). I had started and thought "what did I get myself into this time?"

I posted a few days back about my great 30+ year career with Bristol City on FM13 and before I start on my journeyman career once the beta becomes the full game I decided to get my feet wet by trying to get City promoted from League 1. They are second favourites, decent squad (on FM anyway), should be a gentle introduction I thought. Well, 10 games and 9 points later sitting 21st i've been sacked. Not quite sure what to do with myself now.

As someone once said "It's a funny old game"!

Hi everyone. This will be my first venture into FM, coming over from years of FIFA.

I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go along, but the first is basically the significance of the country selection before starting a career. Basically, what is it all about? If I only select one country am I limited to that country for future jobs? Do I need to select every country to have the authentic players available for transfer? Essentially, what are the pros and cons to selecting a little/a lot. Thanks!

You can only manage in the countries you select, but you can add playable countries at any time in your career. Adding a country will add players from that country, but more countries and more players will slow down your game. Factoring in your system specs, FM tells you the performance they expect your selected setup will give you via a star rating from 1 to 5. If you want the most amount of countries and players, try to aim for between 2 1/2 to 3 stars on a large database. Anything lower will be too slow. But if you only plan on managing one team in one country and don't care about the number of players available, you could speed up processing time greatly by minimizing the number of leagues you select. Then, if you get fired or want to move out of country, you could always add an additional league or two. Be aware, though, that only the countries you select will have their leagues fully simulated.

Does that effect how competitions such as the Champions League play out? Are you likely to see more variance or realism if you maybe add in the German/Italian/Spanish leagues as opposed to just having England? I guess the same question goes with player development as well, how is that impacted?

I'd recommend adding a few leagues simply because, if you don't, teams outside your playable leagues won't have too many players...then you start seeing fake players for bigger clubs, and that's no fun. And if you're doing, say, a national team, you'll want to include national team guys/higher rep guys, from inside your region and beyond to make the competitions more realistic (customizing your database where it gives you choice of small/medium/huge)

Vets and newbies should check this site out if you haven't already:

It's FM 13 tactics and training focused, but a lot of stuff applies to FM 14 as well. The articles are well written and there's a beginner's guide which I thought was a great read, even for me who's been playing for the last 13 years.

The Chalkboard Diaries is also a good place to go for information

I'm a little bit disappointed with FM14 at the moment. It seems far too similar to 13. I've reached the middle of October with Portadown and Northern Ireland and I can't seem to think of any major changes apart from tactics. It just seems to be cosmetic changes mostly, although this may have more to do with the fact I'm managing in Northern Ireland.

Tactics do seem a bit easier to create, although I've tended to play the same way for a few versions of FM so I generally have success with it anyway.

It's still a good game, but it just seems far too similar to last years game.

I think that a lot of the changes are more under the hood / ease of life adjustments. I'm about to hop in a LLM game now, since I grabbed the real names fix.

I have a ridiculous issue where I can't really get into the new game without a dark skin...right now, it doesn't look very polished and, of course, is very different to my previous games where I've fallen in love with Steklo's skin.

I really love the removing of sliders and how each player now has individual player shouts that stay with them whether or not they're playing. I used to hate making changes to the player sliders when making tactical subs. I should mention that I like these tactical changes in theory, as I haven't been able to play a match yet.
