Where's a good read on some of the strategies and walk through for FM. I played some soccer (but not at any sort of high level) and watch the game regularly ( after many years of not watching or playing). I need some sort of refresher and perhaps an explanation of how the mechics work in FM (like An explanation of attribute ratings)"The only time you loosen your hands around an opponent's throat is to get a better grip."

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
After a few saves I really didn't get into, I finally started one that I'm feeling confident about.
FC Internazionale Milano aka Inter! I lliked them as a kid and they currently suck so it's a pretty good choice.
Here are my moves in the first transfer window.
My main concern was having literally NO wingers in the squad and I always like to play as wide as possible. That's why I bought Savitskiy (bargain), Kampl (my favorite player) and the amazing Memphis Depay (WHAAAAAAT). Also decided to get Balanta and sell Ranocchia because he just wasn't that good and was worth a pretty penny.
My expectations are to possibly challenge for the Serie A and get as far as we can in the Europa League
I think I started playing as them in one of old winning eleven games and been fan of team although I just recently started keeping up with them day to day. They're a nice challenge without having no money or no talent, but since the mazarri crap 352 there is some reforming that has to happen formation and personnell And staff wise.
I started a career and you're right no wide players. On one save I was able to get ayew but on my current save I signed loan deal with Joe Campbell and then signed Wagner for about 5 mil. Unfortunately he has been injured and so I've had to go with 4312 or play Guarin at right wing and Campbell at left which aren't their natural but got through Euro qualifying and just starting the season in serie a.
All that said is it me or is there a ton of injuries? I subbed in medel and he injured within a minute out 3 months with broke leg. So medel , kovacic, Wagner all injured for at least 4 weeks each and I've had nagatomo Jonathan khrin dambrosio and guarin all injured so far for a week or two... I don't keep up with my loanees that much but seems they're dropping like flies too.

He's a rotation player. But that shouldn't matter as we had only played one match.
Anyway, I played Genoa on the road, and they didn't have the best of times:Attached FilesComment

Quick question, I have FM 14 from the World Cup sale on Steam, but haven't really messed around with it except the menus. I'm starting to get into text/manager games. Should I stick with 14 and find an update pack or buy 15?Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I would stick with 14 for now, fm takes a while and much trial and error to get to a point where you are comfortable. Once you start getting it down and still like it then move on to 15.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I haven't played FM since FM 12. Picked up FM 15 earlier this week and started as Man City - spare the verbal jabs, with Fifa Fair Play rules in the game, my transfer budget this season is a mere 10M GBP.
I am about as flexible as it can be when it comes to tactics. Never been a fan of the plug-and-play route that many like to take. Sucks the fun out of the game for me. I simply look at my roster and set tactics around that.
I approach the transfer market based off of lack of depth/weaknesses so I don't anticipate much action in the first window anyway.
Got started and set my initial tactic during the pre-season friendlies. I went with a 4-2-3-1 narrow set. I looked at a few possible transfer scenarios along my backline. Really had an interest in Nathaniel Clyne, but, I knew he would be too expensive for me ATM. Arsenal swooped in and grabbed him. I also looked at Wes Morgan from Leicester City, but, his stamina is too low for me to pay the premium Leicester City want.
After the Community Shield game against Arsenal, in which we won 3-0, I continued looking at possible defensive targets. I may find some value in Celtic FC defender Virgil van dijk. I love his size at 6'4" and his ratings are very solid for a young player at center back.
Next match for me is opening fixture against Swansea.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
With a quarterfinal Tim Cup match against Sassuolo to play, half of my team has gone on international friendly duty. That means I'll be playing a mostly B team. Annoying and likely a glitch, but there's nothing I can do. My B team is better than Sassuolo's A team, so if we lose we have no one to blame but ourselves.
Edit: And we lost 4-3 in extra time. I'm not too broken up about it, since the board doesn't care about the Tim Cup, but we still should have beaten Sassuolo. At least I'm still ahead in the league.Last edited by rsnomar05; 01-16-2015, 07:59 PM.Comment

I may pick up a new FM in 16 or 17, and I hope they've ironed out some of the MLS weirdness.?The Bulgarian Brothers - a story of two brothers (Oggy and Dinko) as they coach in the NCAA and the NBA.

This happens to me in MLS playoffs with Seattle in FM13. The good news? I'm the USMNT coach, so I can look ahead and change my callups, especially since the Sounders are basically a USMNT farm team.

Now, some of you may remember I became manger of England after their disappointing Euro performance. I'm currently in WC qualifying, and the press and fans absolutely ripped into me and tore me and a new one over my decision to include Danny Welbeck in the squad. Well, he just scored a hat-trick in his first match of this interlull, so the press and fans can shut up. Granted, it was against lowly FYR Macedonia, but still. Suck it, doubters!Comment

So I went out of the CL to Man City, which quite frankly was expected. What was not expected was losing 7-2 on aggregate. OUCH.
As the league winds down to a close, Juventus and I and are in a tense, nervy battle for the title. Here are the standings with 4 matches left:Attached FilesComment
