Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

The start to my Citeh career is not going too well.

When I started my role in June, I got only a transfer budget of €18m. Which was fine considering thanks to Pep the payroll budget was way out of control. In the summer I moved out €85m through transfers and loans which the board was thrilled with. However, so far I was only able to bring in Vardy and Rulli.

Season has been poor so far with inconsistency. 5-0 wins followed by 4-1 losses. Injury issues and Kompany of course decides he wants to go home for personal reasons in September. Also this doesn't help at all.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

Still not quite sure how I managed it, but I was able to steer Rangers into 3rd place and European football. Oh my, it went down to the final day, and I defeated Aberdeen 1-0 to secure 3rd place, though a Hearts loss also locked it up for me.

It was time to redesign this squad.

        - Clint Hill retired.
        - Phillippe Senderos....bye and he decided to retire.
        - Kenny Miller retired.
        - Rob Kiernan....refused to sign an extension...bye Felicia.
        - Martyn Waghorn....Nottingham Forest offered me $275k ($425k future incentives). He struggled with form and lost his spot in the lineup to Joe Garner.
        - Wes Foderingham...Derby offered $375k ($525k future incentives). Struggled with this decision but decided to go for it. Jak Alnwick did fairly well in nine starts when Wes was injured in preseason. Plus, it helps me pave the way for youngster Robbie McCrorie.

Board gave me $2.93 million....not much of an investment, but let's get to it! Goal is to get younger (was one of the oldest teams in the SPL last season. Thanks Warburton!) and improve my depth in midfield and in defense.

CB Michael Devlin (Hamilton) - $600k
CB David Ferguson (Motherwell) - $750k
CM Greg Tansey (Inverness CT) - $450k

Brought in RB Joe Riley (Manchester United), LW Max Clayton (Bolton), and CM Lee Evans (Wolves) on frees.

Also brought in CM Josh Cullen (West Ham) and CB Reese Oxford (West Ham) on loan.

        Europa
Defeated Taraz in the First Qualifying Round 4-0
Defeated Vaduz in the Second Qualifying Round 6-2
Loss to Wolfsburg in the Third Qualifying Round 0-1

Goal was to at least make the playoff, but a tough draw in the Third Qualifying Round would see us crash out of the tournament. First leg in Wolfsburg saw us play some inspired football, going a man down early in the first half and forcing a 0-0 draw. Felt confident in the return leg at Ibrox, but Wolfsburg scored a goal on a gnarly free kick.

Let's see if we can stop Celtic's quest for seven in a row!

In a span of like a week, I scored 0 goals against teams that are at the bottom 2 of the table. This is why I'm going to be stuck in the Championship for decades.

Edit: Can't win a damn game in the league, but FM'd Arsenal with my backups

Edit: Never seen CPU start without a striker before

So I made the FA Cup final where I get to play against my parent club, Chelsea.

              Edit: Sad ending

So I took that Hoffenhiem job offer after that great season in Belarus. I'm starting to realize that I just don't like playing in the top flight leagues. I don't find it fun. I'm having good seasons. But I'm not enjoying it like I do when I playing in smaller leagues.

I mean I've had fun in top flights. But only when I take a smaller club up. Maybe that is what it is. Taking over a team that is already decent to good in that league I just don't enjoy.

I've always been hesitant to try 3 at the back, but I tried a 3-1-4-1 formation

Won 4 games straight convincingly...creating amazing shots on goal, i push the midfielders to work back & push forward!, surprisingly playing a very good counter attacking style of play!

Judging Player Ability/Potential and Man Management. The usual 'DDM' for any coach (Discipline, Determination, and Motivating) since they'll be conducting training, and those attributes affect how good they are at that. I tend make sure my assistant is a great coach first, and then pick the one that has decent assistant manager stats out of that. I care more about the training side of his stats because I generally have them run training except individual.

Was looking over my transfer clauses, and saw this on a player in the B team. Never seen this before.

100%? How is that even possible? Is some real life rule that only applies to certain players at the start of the game? Because in any transfer you make 50% is the highest the game lets you go.

                          EDIT:
AH they got me. They totally and completely got me. I forgot this was a thing in the game. Sons of bitches.

I'll have a Rangers update soon, but just had to share this little nugget. Lille approached me with an interview and I accepted it because why not, France is a bigger league than Scotland. Go through the interview process...my assistant is the only one who wants to go with me. Rangers approach me to stay, so I figured I would wrangle them for more money. They refused to negotiate an extension. Nice to know that Dave King is a cheapskate in this game as well as in real life (still waiting on that £30 million investment in RL there Mr. King).

So then Lille proceeds to low ball me in contract negotiations. You really expect me to leave a club where I am leading the league currently for a team that is stuck in dead last of Ligue One, and take a pay cut in the process?

I laughed and clicked walk away.

Now I'm just aggravated and I think I'll just play out the last two years of the extension I signed in Year one and then move on.

I just had something similar happen at Hoffenheim. Last year of my contract, and early season we struggled. They almost fired me and gave me an ultimatum. I turned it around and we ended up qualifying for EL via league position, and made the cup final. Way better than pre season expectations. No contract offers all season. After the last game they finally made me an offer to renew. They offered me $200 a week raise. I was making 3.4k a week. This make me curious.

So I go look around the league. I'm the lowest paid manager by a large margin. Guy in dead last, relegated, kept his job and is paid 10.8K a week. I was pissed. I demanded 10k a week. They instantly walked away. They let my contract expire and expected me to stay on with no contract so I stepped down. Then I look at who they hire. Paying that ******* 32k a week, and he hasn't worked in two years. We also have the same rep. I'm so ****ing pissed. **** this game.

Took a whole year to get a job at my rep level (3.5 stars) or above. But, eat it Hoffenheim!

Now cue me getting fired in my first season...

And the dude Hoffe hired to replace me was fired mid season. They hired Pochettino to replace him, and he got them into EL this season. How odd.

Also Klopp just did a treble with Man City. League, FA cup and CL. Ending Man United's run of three years in a row with a double of League and CL. United board is so upset Mou's his job is precarious currently.

Also Wenger is 72 and still at Arsenal. They've finished 2nd consistently but this last season they finished 4th. His contract expires end of next season, when he will be 73. Which would be 27 years in charge of the club. I wonder if the game will let him reach 30 years before he retires at 76, lol.
