I share all of my successes, and probably not enough of my failures so here's a treat, my second shortest tenure at a club ever -

I'm 18th in the league, facing 17th Cesena at home

Of course, probably going to get relegated this year.

So I took over at Lyon after getting bored with Liverpool. And started using this tactic:

It is working very well I must say. This has to be the best run of form I have ever gone on with any team. The two league draws in this list below are from PSG and Monaco away. And the champions league draw was Man City. Who we bet at home in the first match 3-2.

        Spoiler

Of course now that I post this, we will start losing left and right. And despite our amazing run, PSG are still leading the league as they only have one draw (against us) and no losses. Of course the game couldn't let me lead the way with my best ever run.

And I have lost all interest in my Rangers save. These new work permit rules suck. Out of my 7 English players, only two work permits were accepted, and they were for my fringe players.

Feel like the Scottish FA is trying to stick it to Rangers again.

In my new AC Milan save, I scored a goal in the league-opener when the opposing goalkeeper of Sassuolo dropped and kicked the ball right into one of my players, which bounced the ball straight back into the net. As a result of him kicking my guy, he also injured his foot.

Sassuolo also racked up two red cards in the match and we destroyed them.

Worst Champions League final bottle job in history?

Also to note, we came in third in the league. Lost in both French Cup finals to PSG, and then that bottle job above.

I'm curious on thoughts/feedback regarding managing a small club vs a larger one.

                I've only played with Arsenal.

Just would like to know you guys' thoughts on pros/cons of managing a small club. I don't know any of the players, clubs, etc. in smaller leagues (obviously), so I feel like it would be hard for me to get in to. On the flip side, I might be able to 'attach myself' to the unknown guys--as if they are my own--as if they're mine, lol.

                Anyway, please, fire away!

Honestly, in all the years I've been playing FM, the biggest club I've ever started with was Everton. I almost always start unemployed and see where the winds take me. I find that the rules for different leagues (except MLS, I hate that convoluted mess) are intriguing and keeps it fresh. Some places I have tons of success and sometimes I get fired. I get attached to players, coaches, and the fun of competing at whatever level the team is at.

Plus when you start at the lower levels, there is nothing like taking years to build a team and move up to the top flight of whatever country you are in. To me that is more entertaining than taking a top flight club and mowing down the opposition.

That is how I always start my long term saves also. I will pick a club if I'm just messing around. Which I have been doing a lot lately. Not really taking any save too serious. But I love managing smaller clubs in random places. I find that way more fun than just playing as my favorite top team. Or any top team really.

Some of the most memorable saves are from starting unemployed and getting random jobs. Berwick in Scotland League 2. Dnepr Mogilev in Belarus. FC Halifax in Vannarama North in England. IA in Iceland. HiK in 2.Division in Denmark. Vard in POST Nord in Norway.

And when I play with teams like Liverpool/Lyon/Hoffenheim etc, it only lasts a couple seasons before I get bored and want a new job. But with the smaller teams I'm more than happy to play 10+ season. I think I just like to build up a club. And hopping around. Once I spend some time with a small club and build them up I usually start looking for a new job.

So 2 matches left in my 2nd year at Accrington Stanley and we are in 3rd place with 3 matches left. I see some guy from Wolverhampton as a FA and need just 5K to pay his agent for him to sign with us. My boss doesn't want to pony up the cash. We have it out and tell him where to stick it. Then I leak his cheapness to the press. He promptly fires me. First time I've gotten fired that way.

Anyway, I move on to Real Irun in La Liga 2. I was very surprised (as was the fanbase) that I even got this opportunity. I just have to try to avoid relegation this year. Interesting turn of events after getting fired.

How do you guys like managing international teams only? And I'd assume so, but does FM have the likes of U20 and such?

This would be a fun change of pace. Esp. considering the FIFA version of handling an international team is so blase.

                        Just curious your thoughts/experiences?

The only thing is you have to sit and hit continue for long stretches without doing anything. Despite that, I do enjoy it. You can also take a job in addition to your club job, but I don't do that. Doesn't seem realistic. Just make sure you load your home league, and also all the top leagues. You'll probably also want to add any current internationals from your country as well as players with higher reputations so your player pool has options.

I know you can take control of the U23 teams when the Olympics come around, but I'm not sure about any other youth teams. Never tried it.

5 games left in the season. I'm sitting on 87 points in 1st place of Vanarama National, Oxford United (preseason faves) sitting at 80 points. Don't play them anymore. Been around this 7 point gap for a few weeks now...I'm feeling confident but nervous. I know I have a 2 match cushion but don't want any bad form to start.

I had a tiny stretch where I lost 3 of 4 league matches (with a draw in the middle), to lose an 11 point lead and have it shrink to 3...just to win 4 straight to get it back to 7. I really want to get up to League 2 and (I assume?) go full time.

BOO HISS (lol, they were an early issue for me in my save during my time in Vanarama South). Biggest thing to understand is...not everyone is on a salary. This was the hardest thing for me early. Some are on backup/hot prospect/youngster deals that have them getting paid by the appearance only. These can certainly add up so be careful about that. Also, the rules for transfers are different, timing wise, especially in Vanarama North/South. If your player isn't under contract, get ready to have teams try to steal them by offering them a deal. You either have to offer a new deal or hope your player turns down the other teams offer. You'll also need to rely on trials a lot because you'll only have like 1 or 2 scouts (if that), so trials let you know how good a player is (if they are a FA). If you've started scouting the player, a 3 week trial should be enough to get you 100% knowledge about the player.

                                Hope this helps!
