Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

I purchased the game through the Steam client and now I’m having an issue trying to install mods that I’ve downloaded.

I can’t seem to get the folders needed to put the files in and the Steam workshop is hit or miss. I downloaded a 7-tier US pyramid that worked, but the kits pack I downloaded just doesn’t seem to work. I’m managing the Rowdies in the USL and it’s killing me not to have the logos or kits.

If someone can ELI5 on how to get these files active in my save I would greatly appreciate it, cause I’m dying to get started

Where did you download your add-ons from?

I would suggest grabbing most of what you're looking for from Sortitoutsi, at least initially. Each add-on comes with clear and concise instructions.

fmscout.com is also a good source.

Most of the stuff you find in the steam workshop is garbage and or busted.

I still don't know how i will deal with those player roles. If i use a player in a role he doesn't know well it just feels wrong to play him there. Maybe in some time i'll get over myself to do this, but for now, i'll try to figure out tactics where every player can play a role that suits him (at least orange/yellow).

Speaking of tactics: how many do you guys run? Is it even necessary to run 3 tactics? I once read that the AI will figure out a tactic to beat you if you stick to a tactic for too long. Is that even true?

I did try that. My issue is I don’t see the game folders installed on my PC. It seems like Steam installed it to their client/platform and the folder to edit doesn’t seem to be anywhere, this, I’m trying to use the workshop but it’s really hit or miss.

Do you know of a workaround?

It feels like your tactics definitely get 'found out' after using them for a long time. I don't have any concrete evidence of it occurring, but it certainly has felt like tactics become less effective the more you use them.

I always have 3 tactics trained, I generally line up differently home/away, and then I have what I call a 'switch' tactic, where it's generally completely different from the home/away tactics. Depending on the team, and how I have it constructed, the third tactic is normally heavily offensive, or heavily defensive.

If you're on a Windows PC, you should have a Documents folder, and there should be a Sports Interactive Folder. If you want to PM me a screenshot of your folders I can attempt to assess the problem.

Thank you! I will do that. I’m at my office now, but I head home for lunch each day, so when I do that I’ll try and grab some screenshots.

Thank you for the offer. I found what you mentioned earlier this afternoon and all is well in my save now. Now, I just need to figure out how to install the USA pyramid save. There was one on the Steam workshop, but, I don't think it's at the level of detail as the other one I found.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

So, I've officially decided to try the 'watch the full match' thing I posted about a while back. I've started a career with Plymouth in League 1 (in FM 16, I got my created side from Vanarama South to League 1...so figured I'd start from there with a team I like).

I did my 1st match, which was a 2-2 draw with Peterborough. It was REALLY FUN. I liked having so much control over everything that happened. I really felt like my tactical set up and changes in the game were based on what I was watching, and not just what the stats said as the game simmed by. I also felt like they worked better as I went into everything with more knowledge. I tweaked individual tactics more than I ever have, and did more shouts.

This will obviously take forever to play a full season...but I really enjoyed it to start. We'll see how long I keep going with it.

I lost Belotti for basically rest of the season when he was about to break the most goals in Serie A history had 35 in 30 league games.

I’ve also been free falling in the table and I’m about to lose my CL spot because we can’t score without him.

This is completely up to the team I'm using. Currently my three tactics are

                                4-2-3-1 Wide
                                4-1-4-1 DM
                                4-4-3 Narrow

The 4-4-3 Narrow is a fairly attacking centric formation with three strikers since two of my wingers can play striker, so they just tuck in, and my fullbacks move up the pitch into wing backs. I start most home games in the 4-2-3-1, and relax into the 4-1-4-1 generally around the 75-80th minute if I'm winning, 80-85th minute if we're tied. I start the away games in the 4-1-4-1 and stay there for most of the match, if we go down two or more I switch to the 4-3-3, and if we're tied and I think I can win I might switch to the 4-2-3-1 if I'm feeling it. I also have a 4th tactic that we used last year when our striking talents were barren that was a strikerless 4-3-3.
