As i am growing older I am noticing that I appreciate and love games like Football Manager more and more. Being a big sports fan, especially football/soccer and basketball, NBA 2K, PES, FIFA and FM were the games I played most when I was younger. I don't know it it's the money first direction that these other games have taken or me simply having different taste as an adult but Football Manager is the clear number one even though I still play all these games. I started playing FM with Championship manager 4 (2002) so it's a long "career".

I haven't bought latest FIFA or 2k and I don't think I will, but I preordered FM and can't wait for it.

Have you guys already picked the team for fm 22? I am thinking I'll pick HSV. Hamburg is an awesome city and should have a team in the Bundesliga, and given HSV's rich history, it seems like a good choice and one I'll enjoy.

Me too mate. FM is far away and above my number 1, and OOTP is slowly climbing to be my #2.

FIFA and MLB The Show are beautiful. No question there. And I love that I can be in that “environment” of the soccer grounds, and ballparks.

But their career/franchise modes are just so bland and shallow.

My time is FLEETING, and it takes an hour to play a game of MLB TS. I can play weeks at a time of FM or OOTP and actually get see into the incredible depth these games have to offer.

Absolutely buzzing for FM22. The new data hub looks amazing.

Of course, I’ll be the boys in red from North London.

all of my gaming these days is management simulations, FM is still king, OOTP is #2 for me, and Cities: Skylines is 3rd. All three can move at a pretty quick pace through seasons and as JHedges said, actually see the depth of the game playout.

One thing on the topic of team selection, I often try to no longer pre-think save ideas, mostly because I've run through so many at this point, I start dealing with adversity in the save poorly because things are going 'worse' or even 'better' than I expected. I have some teams I'm thinking about using, but outside of my yearly Viborg save, I just let the save ideas flow in real-time.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

After spending some time in the beta last night. I really love a lot of the small quality of life updates to the game. I wont touch on everything I saw. There are a lot it seems though.

              Things I really like:

I'm loving the weekly staff meetings. Instead of being bombarded with daily emails. Most all of that stuff gets saved up for your staff meetings. And it feels somewhat natural. Makes it more enjoyable for me. You can set them to be weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. I think I'll be doing weekly during off season and bi-weekly during the season. Not sure yet. Seems like weekly through an entire season would bee a bit much.

And the new ME graphical overlay (not sure if its an entirely new ME), is fantastic. The animations are way better. The players seem more life like now in the movements.

And in my first test save with Liverpool. I got an odd email, which I assume is new. It was about a new rivalry being formed between Liverpool and Barca. I thought that was interesting.

The agent interaction has improved. They give more feedback, better feedback about the players wants and demands for a move. You now first have to tell the agent your desire for the transfer. How interested you are in the player. Then close it out by saying a reaction to what the agent has told you about the player.

              Things I'm just okay on:

Data Hub seems okay, but for the big feature its kind of a disappointment. Its nothing new really. Most all of this info has been in the game. You just had to go to different screens to find it all. It is nice having it all in one place, I'm not arguing that. But I'm honestly not sure how much I'll end up using it. Just like the medical center stuff they added a bit back. It seems nice, but also kind of optional.

Player values are now a range. Which is nice instead of scouts saying this player is valued at exactly X amount. But the problem is it seems to need to be fixed a bit. Some players have insane ranges. Like 20M - 80M. That is a heck of a range. While most have proper ranges, it seems the beta has a minor bug that breaks some players ranges. I'm only talking for fully scouted players, or players on your own team.

              Negatives so far:

Processing is way slower. Hoping this is just an issue with the beta.

They also removed the ability to remove tactical advice from the staff. Which I find very annoying. I don't care what the game thinks I should be doing tactically. Never have. So now you are forced to see all this tactical advice about every game in the build up, which I find highly annoying.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

27 games into my Man United beta save, and I can absolutely say that I'm loving this version of the game. The oddest thing I've come across is Arsenal leading the Prem with 61 points! They're in quite a battle with Liverpool, myself, and Man City for the top spot. We're all within 6 points of the top.

There are so many quality-of-life changes in this version of the game that is well needed. My favorite thing so far is probably the re-worked transfer system. Teams now give you legit reasons as to why they don't want to sell their players, and it looks like rivalries are taken into account. The winter deadline was pretty quiet, with most teams not wanting to sell during the middle of the season, which makes for an interesting dynamic. People won't be able to fleece the AI when it comes to transfers anymore and it's a thing of beauty.

As Zac mentioned in the post above me, dynamic rivalries are now a thing and that's pretty damn awesome. I think you only get the e-mail if your team is involved, but, if you check teams throughout the game world, they'll occasionally develop competitive rivalries with other clubs and I've been clamoring for something like this for so long.

The match engine is also much improved. I think I've seen guys smash the ball into the side netting maybe twice, and VAR actually awards you goals now!

The one thing we all love, regens has gotten an overhaul as well! Now, regen players are based on the status of the country they come from. You manage to get Scotland as the number 1 country in the world for soccer? Watch the regens from the country produce wunderkind after wunderkind. Might be my new favorite feature in the game.

Loving this version of the game. I know there's really no shiny "back of the box" feature, but there are more than enough changes to make this game top shelf.

I am dying to start my main save. Is there really any reason NOT to?

I just find the game hard to get into with a save I know I have no plans of continuing once I start my Arsenal save..

Database changed and other things will be polished in the full version of the game so I am waiting for the full release to start a long term save. I think I'll play with Werder Bremen, can't wait, but it's just a week and a half, will have some fun with beta in the meantime.

If you start a save now and continue it past the official patch at launch, not all of that will apply to your save file. As the database used to create the save file will still have the flaws in it. This is the main reason most people wait. A couple years ago I started a long term save during the beta and kept playing it for a good while. Like 5 months. It just depends on how messy the beta is. And this year I've encountered a number of issues (which is actually pretty normal for the beta). So this year I'm holding off and just messing around until the official release patch.

I'll be waiting for price to drop a bit, as well as for Zealand to release his USA league system files and the realism megapacks from majestic and daveincid as well before starting a legit save. Hoping this is the year I finally get deep into a save though.

Arsenal winning the Prem on 89 points!? This might be the worst bug I’ve ever seen in any football manager beta!
