This team has looked great collectively since the Villa debacle to start the season, and this performance was no exception. I really think with a few quality signings this club could compete for trophies.

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
Nothing concrete yet, but Sky Sports Bryan Swanson just tweeted that Arsenal and RM are in advanced talks over Ozil, and two Spanish news stations (Cadena Ser & Cadena Cope) are both claiming it's a done deal for €45m. Lot of smoke here, but as of yet no fire.
Man, I hope this is true.Comment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
Well done, boys.
This once again shows why it's so important for us to sign some players. We've got a quality squad, and with additions, we could have a contender of a squad.
But that still means several additions, and I don't know if Arsene will get everything we'll need.
As for today, great game by everyone out there. We've now shown we have no issues at all letting the opposition have possession, as our counter is becoming lethal.
Also, we're still improving defensively and defend as a team for the first time in years.
Spend some money, Arsene.Comment

AW on transfers:
on transfer plans…
I am not against spending money, but I want to add super quality to our squad. Tottenham got a lot of money for Bale, they have to invest it - I understand that. The need is different for us, we need one or two super players and we will try to add that. We have 24 more hours, so maybe we can surprise you. Maybe not - but I am confident.
on other deals delaying his transfer plans…
Yes, because it is a little bit like a domino game. Maybe something will happen in the last 24 hours, maybe not. It is very difficult to predict.
on paying a premium…
I am ready to pay what we can afford, even if it is a bit over the market [value] and as long as it is not crazy. I am not against spending.
And on Jack and Sagna:
on Jack Wilshere…
He has a stomach bug, but nothing that will stop him from playing for England.
on if it's the same bug as Sagna had…
Yes. What has happened to us, happened to Tottenham a few years ago.

And now the BBC has picked it up:
David Ornstein @bbcsport_david 26s
Arsenal in advanced talks to sign Ozil from Real Madrid. Other deals being worked on, including Palermo GK Viviano #bbcfootball #afc #rmfc
Edit: SSN says Arsenal and RM have agreed a fee, so now it's down to Ozil to agree personal terms.Last edited by rsnomar05; 09-01-2013, 06:38 PM.Comment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
Well, I like what Arsene is saying.
We don't need 4-5 good players, we need a few great players.
Ozil would be a wonderful sight. Put him right behind the striker and let him go to work.
As great as Giroud has been, we still need another striker. At least to give Giroud competition and be backup.Comment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
I knew Ramsey would come through. He's too talented not to succeed and I really think he's back to full health and form. People forget that he had his leg broken 3 and a half years ago and it really took him over a year to even get back to playing let alone at a high level.
On the Ozil potential, I really hope this happens as well. He's a world class player and I'd forgive Wenger for the slow transfer season if he pulls this off. I'd also get an Ozil shirt in a heartbeat
We have a strong team with good core players. We just need a little more quality and depth to get us over the hump. The match today showed that we're still better when it matters and now let's go one better and contend with the likes of United, City, and Chelsea. Adding Ozil is a solid start and signing Flamini helps too. We could use another striker and holding player thoughComment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
We're also reported to be close to signing an italian GK:
Another Arsenal deal that looks likely on Monday is for Palermo goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano. Reportedly already in England for talks.

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
Ornstein confirmed this one as well, though there have been reports that this might be a season long loan deal (i.e., give SZCZ a year to develop behind a top quality GK). I hope this is a permanent move, though.Comment

I really hope there is some smoke with this fire. It would mean us smashing our transfer record, but it needs to be done. Statement of intent, and all that jazz.Comment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
The latest on the Ozil rumor is that his wage demands would require Wenger to smash his wage structure, to which Wenger is hesitant to do, meanwhile Sky Sports reports that Man Utd. have made contact with Ozil's agent.
If this is true, pay him the money Arsene!
Hopefully, the Utd. stuff is Sky trying to stir up drama, as the BBC contradicts Sky's report:
Ben Smith @BenSmithBBC
I am told #MUFC definitely NOT in for Mesut Özil. Working hard on deals for Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera.
And Gary Lineker had this to say:
Gary Lineker @GaryLineker
Hear Arsenal are close to signing Ozil, but will need to smash their wage structure to do so. Watershed moment
Once again, pay him the money, Arsene!Last edited by rsnomar05; 09-02-2013, 05:00 AM.Comment
