Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
What also never happens is actual, legitimate criticism of the manager and his decisions over the years. We usually just jokingly write "Wenger Out" over and over again. Definitely not a single instance of breaking down our issues because we care—it's just mindless bashing, and never ever prefacing things with how much we appreciate what he's done for the club.

Ya know, I never actually thought about it. What would it be like without him? I always just said he should retire, but I never thought about what that would mean for the club. My mind is blown.Comment

I know it’s never going to happen but I would really like to see Wenger try out a high pressing system like Klopp.
Might take some pressure of the back 4.
Still need an upgrade at CB and DM. Might want to look at a future GL as well.

I like the idea of pressing, and I think it's an interesting tactical set-up, but without any sort of direction, there's no way it doesn't end in disaster.Support Local Sports

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
It's frustrating that for countless years we've been leaving our defenders exposed, which often seems to make them look like absolute fools, but they're constantly working without protection. On a recent Arsecast the excellent point was made about how you can tell the quality that Koscielny possesses, as even though the system often leaves him alone as a defender, he plays well. Yes, he makes errors, but not nearly as much as his defensive partners.
Also recently I heard about how in recent years Squillaci talked about how hard it is to player as a defender in Arsene's system(s). You're exposed, not protected, and often asked to do far too much as a defender. I know it's easy to laugh at the days of Squillaci in our back line, but the man won back-to-back titles with Lyon as a regular starter. He was not the right defender for how we play, but honestly, who the hell is?
So, it's frustrating that our best defender, Koscielny, still often makes mistakes due to how much he's asked to do. Therefore our younger defenders (Mustafi, Holding, Chambers) naturally make even more mistakes as they do not possess the experience to cope.
Also, it's been years since our midfield properly protected our back line, which often means our back line doesn't protect our keeper. Cech is a great keeper, he's proven that over and over. Yet at Arsenal it shows that while he's a great keeper, you still need an actual defense in front of you.
Does anyone remember a few years ago when our defense was really, really working well? Was it when Bould first took over as assistant and was working with the defense in training? We were doing fairly well for a time—not sure what happened.Comment

A goal and 2 assists by Nacho Monreal in the first 13 minutes. Is he trying to put himself in the shop window or something? Unreal start by him.Comment

I don't know what those guys ate for breakfast, but this is wonderful. Bring in Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang—make a push for fourth, and take a run at the Europa League.
I want three more goals and a clean sheet, damn it!Comment

Oh, we lost to Bournemouth last week, nothing is forgiven. I’m just glad to see the quality in the side show up and do a job.
I’m letting myself have ninety minutes of enjoyment for now.Last edited by Krebstar; 01-20-2018, 12:26 PM.Comment

The effort and determination today. Haven't seen it in ages. It's as if some sort of pressure has been lifted, or some distraction is no longer present. Odd.
Also, helps to have Koscielny and Monreal as defenders as opposed tp Chambers, Holding, and Maitland-Niles.

Looks like Mkhitaryan headed our way and Sanchez to United will be wrapped up by...Wednesday at the latest? Medicals in the next 48 hours, so surely we're nearing the official announcements.
I just hope we bring Mkhitaryan into the squad fairly quickly. One or two appearances off the bench max and then give him a start.Comment
