If Pulisic had scored that late chance I probably would have gotten a tattoo of his face tomorrow.Comment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
Can't help but feel like we would've got 3 points if we had went with basically the same lineup.
Credit to Gonzalez and Cameron.
Was Guzan the right choice? Idk if Howard stops that shot, given how poorly Cameron and Acosta defended it...but man, Guzan kinda made a case for never being chosen again. Kinda clumsy and disorganized too often.
Happy withthe point? Sure.
Did Arena over-manage and make too many changes? Absolutely.
Does CONCACAF have the worst officials? Perhaps. And it almost cost us the game when Salcedo had the late chance.Last edited by fugazi; 06-12-2017, 12:16 AM.Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment

Some say that center ref is still out there to this very day, awarding free kicks to Mexico.Comment

Surprising result to me. US looked like a match and then some for Mexico. You wonder how the game might have gone if it had been officiated fairly. Too many fouls and cards at that not given to the Mexican players. Flagrant yellow/red not give early in the game. Happy to get the point. I do not like Guzan at all. Too passive in the net slow to play balls in the air in the box putting his defenders in bad spots. I don't think he had a chance on the goal but I prefer Howard hands down.Comment

There are better choices for keeper than Guzan, I'm almost sure. If/when we get to the WC, he'll be our biggest weakness.Too Old To Game Club

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
We've suddenly arrived at a point where goalkeeper is one of our most worrying positions.
Guzan seems like he just sort of randomly fell off a cliff, maybe all those seasons of keeping Villa up single handedly wore him down. Howard is still good but he's getting old and his game was very reliant on his exceptional athleticism.
Honestly I think it's just time we moved on as much as I love Howard. We should just start alternating Horvath, Steffen and Gonzalez (assuming he completes the switch) and go with whichever shines the most.
TBH I'm not sure why Horvath isn't getting called up every time. He's been a starter for a Europa League-level team since he was 18 and he's almost objectively better than Bingham, Hamid and Yarbrough who all get called up pretty regularly.Comment

Benteke was brilliant for Villa but people have short memories. He's injured for like half of almost every season.
Guzan was legitimately phenomenal for Villa.
If anything you could say that tandem kept Villa up, but Guzan deserves way more credit than people give him these days.Comment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
i think the US needs to pick a CB pairing and stick with it as best as possible...
Cameron put in a great performance Sunday, but has not always been so solid for us in center...i don't think the US will ever use him as a fullback or midfielder, though...
I don't think we have the guys to play 3 at the back. Cam-Brooks-OGon "might" work, since Cameron can play wider...but not likely from Omar.
Yedlin has improved dramatically. I'm really sorry we didn't get to see him, Nagbe, and Pulisic wearing out the left side of Mexico's defense Sunday night. It would have been tempered by their preference to attack on their left...but, presumably, that combo of American players would have tempered their attack, as well.
It still doesn't sit well with me that Nagbe, F. Johnson, and Altidore were left out of Sunday's match. Sitting ALL of them? I'm not upset with the result, but it seems like points were left on the pitch.Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
To be honest I think a 3-5-2/5-3-2 is what we should have been playing for a while.
International play is about playing a system that best utilizes your players in order to maximize results. Jurgen did a great job giving our system some much needed revamping, but going forward he should have implemented a system that plays to the strengths of US players. We also don't need to force all our teams to play a certain formation just to become more technical/better passing etc.
A 3-5-2/5-3-2 set up as a deep block, would get the most out of our pool of players. American players are typically very quick, physically strong, and very physically fit. In fact, at any given tournament we are typically one of the most fit teams there. It's been our thing for a while and it's why the whole "greater than the sum of our parts" thing worked for us in the past, because our players can run forever.
Sit deep and counterattack with pace, allow the attackers complete freedom in the counter to encourage flair and creativity. With the right application we'd be a danger to just about any team.Comment
