    re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread

As someone who is not an expert but has watched way too many Sunderland matches this year (~15-20), there are 2 basic problems:
    1) That team is a disaster with no central midfield and with terrible service. I think they would regularly tie/lose to MLS teams.
    2) Jozy doesn't have great off the ball movement and doesn't have the opportunity to do much with the ball when he gets it, because he has to drop deep then pass it off to a midfielder.

I also want to say there's been awful coaching, but that's kind of something that's too often thrown out by people who are ignorant the details of soccer coaching (like me).

It's a combination. Sunderland is, in fact, a disaster with no cohesion going forward. Jozy doesn't get a full pass even though it isn't the best situation for him though. He gets easily frustrated when things aren't going right. Then you see him giving up on runs, trying to play outside his skill set and losing the ball, etc. Bad situation all around, and it's a really bad time for him to be out of form.

Is it really "bad form"? I sometimes think I buy into Alexi Lalas' statement that "form is fallacy."

Yes, he's a US citizen. He has 2 USMNT caps, so he's been given a chance. I just don't think he's been able to provide as much as Wondo, EJ, or other MLS-based strikers.

I think Poyet's a terrible manager, for one. Just look at this: http://www.noshortcorners.com/2014/0...d-serling.html

Sunderland are ****, and Jozy's playstyle isn't conducive to a lower-mid/relegation battling team in the BPL. A lot of people, including myself and others called Jozy's move to Sunderland a poor decision. He'd have been better off at a mid-table team in the BPL, or in Germany imo.

Agreed to a point. I guess what I meant is that it's a really bad timing for him to not be getting regular matches at the highest level possible.

                  That I agree with.

Part of me is really kind of frustrated with US players going to the EPL, when they obviously would be better off getting regular PT against teams of a similar quality level. Look at Brek Shea, or even Juan Agudelo. Is Stoke such a great situation if you are never going to play there and just get loaned to a league of similar quality to MLS, but where you are less respected because you are American?

No, it's not better to sit on the bench at some mid/low table club in a top league. And I can't stand when people criticize Americans coming back to MLS like it's always preferable to play somewhere in Europe.
