This is for everyone who has an issue having donovan off the team. Great article, and since I dont have any biases towards any of the players, I totally agree with it. The man is trying to change the US so we can compete with the powerhouses and actually be good at the most popular sport in the world. The future is bright with us if klinsmann continues to change US soccer

That was a good article. My only questions about the move was, didn't Donovan lead the team in goals and assists since he's been back? If he still is one of the best players in America, why not play him? Is it just so JK can make a point? Trying to make a bigger statement? I am trying to think of this as only present players, not take into account anyone's past. But even in present times, I feel LD is one of the best.

Ultimately, I think this is it...and if you add in the need to assuage the "new guys", you get a formula for this.

I am fully understanding of the other ideas that are floated...and in agreement with a lot of them.

And I think too much is made of the sabbatical, probably on JK's end as well.

Let Landon go guys. There is no room for him on this plank that both could clearly fit on.

                LOL very nice.
I am over the Landon move, I don't think I will ever be happy with it but I still have confidence in our team as it is now. I am just anxious for the future to see what JK has planned.

U.S. Men’s National Team Coach: ‘We Cannot Win The World Cup’
Klinsmann Offers Brutally Honest Assessment Before Team Even Arrives In Brazil

Let's be honest, he's right. But, he's supposed to elevate team morale, and I think this does the opposite going into Brazil. WTF

"We cannot win the World Cup because we are not at that level yet," Klinsmann said. "For us, we have to play the game of our lives seven times to win the tournament."

It will be very difficult for the U.S. to get out of Group G, and head coach Jurgen Klinsmann isn’t expecting a miracle in Brazil.
In fact, he’s being brutally honest and realistic about his club’s chances.
“We cannot win the World Cup because we are not at that level yet,” Klinsmann said, according to the New York Times. “For us, we have to play the game of our lives seven times to win the tournament.”
But part of Klinsmann’s plan is to have the U.S. competing with the best of the best in the future, leading to sustainable success against the most talented teams in the world.
And while he’s tempering expectations, he’s looking forward to seeing how his team faces the daunting challenge head.
“It is one of the most difficult groups of the whole draw,” Klinsmann said back in December, according to Yahoo! Sports. “It couldn’t get any more difficult or any bigger, but that is what the World Cup is all about. We are looking forward to the challenge and we don’t see ourselves as any kind of outsiders. If you want to get into the top 10 or 12 teams in the world you have to beat these guys.”
This year’s squad is very young, which likely explains Klinsmann’s controversial decision to leave 32-year-old Landon Donovan off the roster.
USA, which is No. 13 in the latest FIFA world rankings, will open up group play against Ghana on June 16, then take on Portugal on June 22 before squaring off with Germany four days later.

Why should we let it go? You don't stop talking about the greatest USA soccer player ever getting shafted for his last chance at a World Cup. At least I'm not doing it. I support this team & always will but this was wrong! I don't like Klinsmann & I don't care to share my feelings either.

Technically, he's not even a US guy coaching this team. Don't even go there about me being racist either. I'm just stating the facts. Klinsmann is from Germany & yeah he's a US citizen now but he wasn't even over here for years.

LD is straight up USA born & the best soccer player we've ever had. It's a shame that he doesn't get to go to his last attempt at a World Cup. Members on here can bash me all they want. I'm going to keep LD in the spotlight.

Yeah, we have the World Cup starting in a few days but LD is still on my mind for sure! We have a much better chance at doing better/advancing if LD was on this team. Who in their right mind wouldn't think otherwise?

If you don't think you're going to win the World Cup, then what the eff is the point in even playing?

I'm sorry, at the grandest stage, happens every 4 years, it's the dreamers that prevail - and that win. Take logic out of that - because there is more than just being technically sound and statistically in favor - this is the World Cup for crying out loud. Emotion, pride and passion rules all - and that is intangible. That is what Klinsmann needs to focus on - I guarantee you all the other teams are doing that, because it's natural - logic is not. Logic should be thrown out the window because it's logic that comes from other people - not within.

Winners overcome logic - and other's expectations - and I would hope our USMNT coach would teach the same discipline. If he doesn't, and he truly believes in what he's spewing to the media, then don't even bother showing up.

In terms of Donovan: The question I tossed around in my head at the time of the announcement was "Is he one of the best 23 players in the country right now?" and the answer I came up with was an emphatic yes. It felt like a very selfish move by JK, to me, and it didn't feel like it was a move made in the squad's best interest, but rather it felt like it was made in JK's best interest. Maybe I'm crazy, but that was how things felt from where I sat.
