If Klinsmann does end up getting the axe, who would you guys like to see come in and coach ? Did you see the game vs Mex ? When they came out with the different formation and it wasn't working he looked pretty lost, with Bradley & Jones basically having to tell him .....'we gotta change this *** up now'.

Simply put, that can not happen in the final round of CONCACAF qualification.
Embarrassing.

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
I'd say the biggest thing I saw on the pitch tonight that needs addressing is leadership. Bradley is not getting it done on the field and Jurgen parted ways with arguably the best US footballer of recent memory when it did not have to be that way. The only way the U.S. can place in the Hex is if they find a leader, whether that be at the helm or on the pitch.Comment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
I love Landon but that would be a disaster.
If we are talking former players, it could only be Cherundolo or Bocanegra.
This is the real problem with ditching Jurgen, there aren't many quality coaches available to replace him with. Personally, if we are going to do this, I think we should throw all money and available kitchen sinks at Bielsa. I feel like he probably wouldn't want to coach the US, but it couldn't hurt to try and he would be an amazing appointment.
What I'm afraid of is that we do something stupid like fire Jurgen and replace him with Caleb Porter, which is probably what we will do. Either Porter or Peter Vermes.Comment

Glad I wasn't able to watch that disaster. I've been on the Jurgen train for a while now, defending him at every turn from the "He's not American" crowd and the "He Left Landon off the WC roster" crowd.
This is indefensible. The Hex is not the time to be tinkering with formations and player selection (though we got dealt a horrible hand with Dempsey's heart issues and Tim Howard's groin tear).
The issue is...who do you replace him with?
In a perfect world, I feel he should remain the technical director and give up the reigns of first team coach to somebody else. The fruits of his labor at the youth levels won't be realized for a generation.
Part of the issue right now is MLS. They need to quit worrying about what overpriced aging European star they can nab and focus on youth development for the National Team.Comment

It puts butts in seats though. It's not like the MLS is atrocious with youth development, but it's trying to become a bigger league globally and you need big names to do that.
The biggest problem at the moment isn't necessarily a lack of youth options, it's more the fact that we have them and just don't use them. Miazga was the best defender in the MLS at 18 and 19, impressed with the very few chances with the first team he was given, and he's generally not even named to whatever 25 man roster. Nagbe isn't that young, but he's looked fantastic every time he's played and Jurgen still uses him sparingly, same thing with Kljestan.
You've also got young guys like Carter-Vickers, Zelalem, Hyndman, Jamieson, Acosta who are all great prospects, and most other national teams starts giving their better young prospects minutes early on. Zelalem and Acosta are arguably ready for decent minutes already.
Horvath has been starting for a Europa League team since he was 18 but we keep bringing Rimando and Guzan. Kitchen hardly even gets called up despite our glaring lack of a true DM. I'd rather give Zimmerman and Turner a chance than Oroszco at this point. Jurgen isn't even using Yedlin anymore for whatever reason, and Robbie Rogers never gets called up despite a glaring lack of fullbacks in the team and being one of the best American fullbacks for the last 3 seasons. Chandler gets routinely called up despite having like 3 good games for the US.
Jurgen just has too many favorites, despite his constant tinkering, which sometimes gives off the impression that we aren't producing any players.Comment

I agree. I was at work thank goodness.
I've defended him for some time but I'm not sure why he doesn't have any consistency for the guys at this point.Originally posted by My Wife"The Celtics only won because they have a magical elf playing for their team...."Comment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
1) He won't put Bradley in a position to maximize his strengths
2) Pairing him with Jones has never worked well IMO. Both do better when the other isn't on the field, and I like Bradley a lot more
Am I wrong? My eyes and biases can certainly deceive me, but I still believe Bradley is part of our best roster. I am not convinced Jones should even be coming off of the bench.
I was all in for this idea 2 years ago, but I just have lost interest in him, mainly from MLS. For every 1 game he dominates, there are 15 he just doesn't show up. This is a very hot take thing for me to say, but I wonder if he really lacks mental toughness. Perhaps it's something else, but as much as I want to like him, I just can't anymore.?The Bulgarian Brothers - a story of two brothers (Oggy and Dinko) as they coach in the NCAA and the NBA.

I may be wrong, but there's still a part of me that thinks there are 2 major Klinsmann problems for Bradley:
1) He won't put Bradley in a position to maximize his strengths
2) Pairing him with Jones has never worked well IMO. Both do better when the other isn't on the field, and I like Bradley a lot more

Bradley lost quite a bit of my faith when he didn't pass to Bobby Wood on a simple 2-1 break that could've given us a 2-1 lead over Mexico the other day.Originally posted by My Wife"The Celtics only won because they have a magical elf playing for their team...."Comment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
I was vehemently in the "Give Klinsmann a chance" camp, and somehow I still am. I think we can pull out this qualification still. Mexico aren't a bad side, and we should have won that game, and we've pretty much never beaten Costa Rica in Costa Rica. The performance was absolutely concerning, but we're not out of the woods yet for qualification. I don't buy that we're in danger of not qualifying.
That being said, if we have to play in the play-off, or if we slip against someone else that we absolutely shouldn't, get him out of here.Support Local Sports
