Official USMNT Thread
In CONCACAF, that would be a recipe for a straight red for the US every time. That's going to happen to him regardless. Those are the growing pains of a player with his talent. I'd rather they did not.
Now if we are up by 3 goals and someone wants to get stupid, that's another story.Originally posted by My Wife"The Celtics only won because they have a magical elf playing for their team...."Comment

We used to be an incredibly physical team that was very tough to beat, even if we weren't very good. Jurgen came in and put more of an emphasis on technique, which was needed, but these days it seems that we'd rather just keep playing than get in an opponent's face.
Just need to find the right balance. I agree, we will be punished more harshly than other teams if we just start blatantly fouling.Comment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
I'd rather the refs start handing out yellow and reds when they're supposed to than have our players getting retaliation cards. Because you know that's what would happen.
Case in point, Nagbe gets his leg totally stomped on in about the 4th minute against Costa Rica (in what world is that going for the ball, lol). By his Timbers teammate Guzman, no less. Could've easily been a red - wasn't even a yellow. Then not even 10 minutes later, he picks up a yellow for another trash foul where he deliberately kicks another player in the leg as if it was a ball. He should've been off in the 13th minute. That is what will stop this crap from happening - actually punishing players like they should.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 09-12-2017, 01:12 PM.Comment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
I hear you guys, but I am just not on board with the idea that the refs are somehow treating the US unfairly compared to other countries. I hear it implied (if not directly stated) in this thread over and over every match every year. Every team (club or country) has calls go against them. Thinking that one team is being singled out is a point of view I can't take seriously in 2017.Comment

It's said over and over again because it happens over and over again with Central American teams. Has been this way forever, and nothing is ever done.Comment

So the refereeing is cool when they play Mexico, Puerto Rico, TnT and Jamaica? I hear complaints in seemingly every CONCACAF match involving the US.Comment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
Those teams do considerably less kicking of players than the CA teams.
But there's also the issue that CONCACAF referees are garbage overall, and yes the US does benefit from their poor decisions sometimes. Complaints about the referees aren't always about "THEY'RE SCREWING THE US". They're also about "I'd like to watch a properly officiated match" which is a total rarity in a CONCACAF match.Comment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
Acosta in the 2nd half is how more of our players should go about things. He probably narrowly avoided a first yellow several times before finally getting booked, but he definitely played with a chip on his shoulder. He wasn't over the top, but he stood his ground and dished a little physicality out in the process. I loved it, and as an FC Dallas fan, I was even more proud.

I think refs are legitimately afraid to make calls against home teams, which is obviously a big problem.Comment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
That being said, I've never seen dirtier teams than some of the sides I've seen from Central America...though I remember a match against Bolivia years ago that was pretty bad....so maybe it's a problem with the futbol culture?Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
This is a rather interesting read as we wait for the big match.
Brian Sciaretta explored the past three decades of player development and noticed few players born in the early 1990s have panned out—a situation that continues to haunt the men's national team.
I'm feeling pretaaay pretaaaay pretaaaaaaay good about tonight's game. 4-1 good guys.Comment

And there's some CONCACAF reffing. Besler's bleeding and there's no card to be found.Comment

Pulisic pulling all the strings. That was a silky smooth pass to Altidore.
Our defense is still scaring me to death.
