The defense was so suspect and our possession game was trash, I was surprised we made it this far

Our defense played admirably for how much they had to defend. I figured they'd be our weak link. They got us to where we got. It's incredibly hard to defend for 90 minutes when the midfield doesn't give you a breather by giving the ball away immediately.

The ride this team has taken us on these past few months has been fantastic. Was not expecting to feel this way after it was over and I love it. The next 4 years will be even more fun and I can't wait to get it started, hopefully with more Timmy THE GOAT Howard.

Think Timmy has another 4 in him? He'll be 39 next time around. I sure hope so. We need to build a statue of that man somewhere.

Part of me wants to say he does and keepers do have a long life in the game, the only problem will be that he probably won't be at the same level as he was this year and that's what I want him to be remembered for. His leadership is huge though and without him our backline just isn't the same, no other keeper has that command. I will never have a bad thing to say about him from here on out.

I unfortunately will always remember him for not reaching his full potential. I don't know if it is mental or what, but there always seems to be small mistakes that end in goals or force him to make great saves. He made a bunch of good saves, but let in some easier ones.

I bet he wishes he had that 2nd goal back. He did everything correct in his positioning. He took away the far post, defender was also there. He only gave 1 spot to shot the ball. That is what you try to do as a goalie, but then he failed to see where the shot would go. He had ~75-80% covered and he should have made the save. No goalie can be perfect, but he has always seemed to miss that.

Really?? The man just made 16 out of 18 on save opportunities against world class opponents. That is incredible, full potential, really? WOW, not sure what goal keeping your watching.

I feel sad for Howard, Jones, Beasley, Dempsey as this was there last hurrah.

He just made the most saves in a match for a GK in the World Cup since the 1960s. I think I'll give him a pass for allowing a goal to a world class player who just torched his defense in a 1-on-1 situation.

Me too, but we have alot of young talent too. Between yedlin, Johnson, green, altidore, johannsen, brooks we're gonna be ok. We just need klinsmann to keep bringing in the foreign talent and get some midfielders

I know he made some great saves. He always does that and that is why I say he has never reached his full potential. That 2nd goal was one an easy one to stop when you look at some of the others he stopped.

Yes without him this team gets blown out, but he could have been better. He is probably the best goalie the USA has had I just wish he had a little more. If he did, he would be the best in the world.

Yes, because even the best keeper stops every shot.

True, other question is will Klins remain with contract, or get an offer for a pro club he cannot resist. Im excited about young talent, which I still believe was his reasoning for most selections. He is thinking 2018 really making an Impact on the world stage. Now he will have qualification, 2 gold cups, copa america, hopefully a confederations cup as well to get them ready. Future looks bright in USA for Futbol, especially if Klins rides out contract. MLS continued expansion will only give more opportunities for young talent and grow the sport. Here in Orlando, starting MLS next season, with KaKa joining team. Builds excitement for example, with youth academy's popping up everywhere.
I think he will continue to push talent to play in Europe, but MLS showing some talent on team as well: Yedlin, Besler, Gonzalez, etc.
Why oh why did Wondo not keep ball down, his dream came and gone.....

I think in order for our national team to make the next jump, we will need world class talent. Green might have that potential (we will see) but it is not certain anyone else does. Unless the Lebron or Jordan of MLS shows up in the next couple years, I would only expect round of 16 or if the draw is lucky a round of 8 in the next WC.

Even though Howard was beastly in this WC I'm not too worried about losing him for 2018. The US will continue to produce good quality keepers because we grow up playing so many other sports with our hands. We'll be OK.
