re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
"[T]he 2-2 draw was a result the U.S. might have been happy with before the match began. It improved the Americans’ odds of advancing to the knockout round of the World Cup. Those chances are up to 76 percent, according to the FiveThirtyEight forecast, an improvement from 65 percent before Sunday’s match.
The U.S. has essentially three ways to advance to the knockout stage:
The easy way. First, it could draw or beat Germany. That might not sound so challenging, but the Germans are the third-best team in the world, according to ESPN’s Soccer Power Index. Our forecast gives the U.S. a 14 percent chance of a win and a 22 percent chance of a draw — but a 64 percent chance of a loss. As a bonus, however, the U.S. will advance first from Group G if it beats Germany. That matters because the first-place team from Group G is likely to face Russia or Algeria in the Round of 16 — while the second-place team will face a stronger side in Belgium.
The almost-as-easy way. Next, the United States could lose to Germany but advance if Ghana and Portugal draw in Brasilia. Our forecast puts the chance of a Ghana-Portugal draw at 29 percent.
The hard way. Finally, the U.S. could lose to Germany but advance because it edges either Portugal or Ghana — whichever team wins in Brasilia — on goal differential or another of FIFA’s tiebreakers.
The four teams in Group G know this math just as well as you or I do — and that could affect the style of play in both Recife and Brasilia. Germany has no real incentive to beat the United States — it also advances in first place from the group with a draw. A draw is also a good result for the U.S., getting it to the knockout stage. That could lead to a more conservative game plan for both teams and a slower pace, making the odds of a draw higher than they otherwise might be.
Of course, just the opposite is true for Ghana and Portugal. Both teams fail to advance with a draw. In fact, a mere one-goal win would be problematic for both teams and especially for Portugal. That means they’ll have every reason to play attacking football and pile on the goals until the last minute, making a draw less likely and a lopsided score more likely than it might be ordinarily.

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
I heard that the USMNT is the 3rd youngest overall in the World Cup. This team has exceeded expectations so far.
Jermaine Jones is having a coming out party and Clint Dempsey has come a long way from a trailer park in Texas. Michael Bradley has not had a good WC so far.Comment

I heard it reported on the talk radio so it must (not) be true
still, there's a lot of young talent on this teamComment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
Well im hoping for a tie, but for the US to win they have to play one hell of game especially on defense. They cant afford stupid letdowns especially from their CBs. The Germans are stacked and are ruthless, and the US will have to match everything the Germans do. It will be an upset of a lifetime if they pull it off, which honestly is unlikely because the Germans will not want to be second and play Belgium.

I think the most likely thing is that Portugal is going to get a result against Ghana. Ronaldo i'm sure will not go home goalless from this tournament and I expect Portugal to show up for pride's sake. Provided Germany doesn't stomp the USA anything other than a Ghana win will do.Comment

It'll be interesting to see what Argentina and Nigeria do on Wednesday. They are in the exact same spot as US/Germany in terms of a draw sees both through where a 1-0 Nigeria loss and 2-0 Iran win(v. Bosnia) sees Iran pass Nigeria on GDComment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
he was frozen just like Cameron was. Whether or not he should have came out, out of the 5 defenders in the box, one of them should have picked up the only Portuguese player. but they didn't, which we saw the result. The US did every thing right in ET except the very last play which sadly cost us

The defense, on the other hand...has ALWAYS sucked. Period.
idk what the deal is, but they always look like amateurs out there.
I mean, how many times during that game were they making short, stupid passes within FEET of the box while Portugal was still pressing their attacking third??Australian Rules Football...just sayin'Comment

I believe that Klinsmann is one bad ***

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
I wouldn't put it past us to get a result against Germany to be honest. Low really is not a great coach and most of the team is playing criminally out of position.
We could set up in a 5-3-2 with Yedlin and Johnson as wingbacks and just hit them on the counter since most of Germany's fastest players sit on the bench. Portugal basically imploded but the Ghana game showed that Germany is not the monster they should be.
Low has played nearly identical lineups so far and I'd bet he will play the same one again vs us.Comment

re: Official USMNT/USWNT Thread
Our issue is that we need rest as well. One less day this go around and if we do win the group, we play again Monday.
Bradley, Jones, Demps, Besler, Beasley, Bedoya, Johnson all need serious rest. If they have to go 180 minutes in 5 days, we will be screwed if we get to the QFs.
