Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
From the World Cup Thread:
Right. Competition-wise, it really doesn't make much sense to CONMEBOL. However, when they're swimming in cash like Scrooge McDuck in his money bin after 2016, they will definitely be open to a format change if it means hosting the tournament in the US in the future.

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
I like the idea of having one tournament instead of two but I don't like the idea of it always being in the United States. I can't believe the South American countries are on board with that.Comment

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
Yep.
It's a cash grab of the highest order.
I'm not sure how I feel, Because the Gold Cup is something the US can actually win. At the same time, a joint Americas cup would be a higher level of play and any minor chance to avoid playing Honduras is worth at least checking out.Comment

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
Outside of the US only Brazil and maybe Argentina/Mexico have the infrastructure to run it but the guaranteed safety the US can provide can't be understated.
I'd like them to either combine it or keep them separate and have the winners face off a neutral site .

We're making a strong case to handle hosting going forward. Yesterday - wrong national anthem played for Uruguay. Tonight - Chilean national anthem is interrupted by Pittbull.Comment

Can someone explain why the USA being the permanent host of the Copa America = CONMEBOL nations making money?University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
So they all share the ticket money? I would have assumed that goes to the host nation.
Although I suppose, now that I think about it, in theory the fans are from all nations, so it makes sense that they would share it.University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
Haha, can you imagine the bidding process if the host nation got all the revenue? If you thought the bribes and backroom deals were bad now...Comment
