Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
Leon do you think it's deliberate at this point? I honestly can't fathom how a club as big as United has such a comically bad Web presence. Like, they could have a fan make a website using WordPress and it would look better. Are they doing this out of spite?Comment

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
In all seriousness, I have no idea why they have kept it that way. Although a fan did get an email from United saying that "we have heard your voice and we are on our way to giving you a completely new website." Thank god for that.Comment

Rosenborg got FM'd today in the Champions League qualifying rounds.
Apoel Nicosia scored three goals in stoppage time to win the game, coming from behind on agg to advance.

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
I was wondering why they were going insane on the first of the three, and I see that they only needed that goal to win on away goals.Comment

And apparently people in whatever country that's in love taking off their shirts. Seemed like every other dude in the crowd was shirtless. The player who scored the first goal almost took his shirt off, too. lolUniversity of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
The zaniest league in all of football -- the Championship -- kicks off this Friday with Fulham v. Newcastle. This is going to be one massive season with all of the former giants involved: Newcastle, Leeds, Forest, Villa, and of course, Huddersfield Town.
Rafa's Newcastle look like a lock to come straight back up, but after that it's really anyone's guess. Norwich could easily yo-yo again, Wednesday or Brighton could continue their ascent, or Nigel Pearson could just scare the crap out of everyone and propel Derby toward an undefeated season.
I'd like to think Forest will contend for a playoff spot, but who am I fooling...www.heyimbill.com | sports poster art and other cool stuffComment

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
Calling those clubs former giants has always bugged me. Makes it sound like it was very recent. It's sort of like calling Everton former English Champions; it's technically true, but it's been such a long time since that title was applicable that it doesn't have any relevance.Comment

Leeds is another example. They have a storied history, massive support and an EPL-sized stadium, yet they haven't been in the topflight since I started following English football. Apparently they have been epically mismanaged (mis-owned?) over the years, now they have Garry Monk, who I liked at Swansea. It'll be interesting to see what they can do.
Overall, the Championship is probably my favorite league to follow. It is extremely competitive, likely the most competitive league out there. Sure we have Newcastle this season but usually it's anyone's guess who's going to win the damn thing. Add to this the fact that you have teams that should be in the EPL mixed in with teams that could possibly end up in the Conference in a few years' time, it's just bonkers. I wish this league had more TV coverage in the States.
Any promotion predictions? Here's mine:
1) Newcastle
2) Sheffield Wednesday
3) [playoffs] Norwichwww.heyimbill.com | sports poster art and other cool stuffComment

First post of the thread
Kind of like the Off Topic Threads in the other sports sections here on OS, here's a place to discuss about the podcasts we listen to, the TV shows we watch, the books/magazines we read, the movies we watch, and the blogs we visit.
...............
Just noticed on netflix streaming that One Night In Turin and The Four Year Plan were recently added.
Both Sports Doc, Turin covers the England National Team leading up to and during the Italia 90 Fifa World Cup
The Four Year Plan, follows the day to day operations of Queens Park Rangers as they try to reach the Premier League.
Solid flicks to watch.
..............
Anyone have any podcast to recommend? I haven't really filled the void WFD left when Cohen and Hassan left.

Check their channel out. Lots of good, short "documentaries."Comment

Re: The Beautiful Game Thread
Maybe it is irrelevant, but I always liked the "disgraced team restored to their former glory" subplot. Hell, it's one of the main reasons I latched onto Forest in the first place (that and the dope 70's badge). Granted, it hasn't happened yet but I'm still holding out hope.
