Re: MLS Discussion Thread
We're used to watching things in the cold, it'll be fine. The Twins suck and there is a lot more behind their attendance problems than just not winning. Ownership gained public money for their stadium then promptly slashed payroll 25% while the fans were filling it every night. That has left a sour taste in a lot of people's mouths.Comment

Re: MLS Discussion Thread
This is fantastic. I've tried to get into the MLS over the years, but haven't been able to stick with any one team, never had a connection to them.
It's been great to see MNU grow as a club and finally make this move to the MLS. Love the team, can't wait for their debut!Huskers | Chelsea FC | Minnesota United | OmahaComment

Re: MLS Discussion Thread
I don't follow MLS unfortunately as much as I should, but with them going to 24 teams, do you guys think there will ever be a day where we have MLS A and MLS B with relegation and promotion between the two leagues?? Certainly would make the end of the regular season more fun for the fans and make it more likely people watch the really bad teams in the league as well..."If you have a linebacker on him, you might as well start singing their fight song." -- WSU coach Bill Doba on Reggie Bush

Re: MLS Discussion Thread
If there were ever to be pro/rel involving MLS, that is exactly how it would happen. But they have to go north of 40 teams to do that. Not sure how they'd make it work.Comment

Re: MLS Discussion Thread
I really don't want the MLS to take on European style structure. It's fine just the way it is. If Promo/Rel were to happen, as said 24 teams would not be enough. It would have to be around 40 as said for something realistic to happen, but England has so many leagues that it was able to come up with a pro/rel structure, but imo the only way MLS gets a pro/rel structure is if the USL and NASL, and MLS agree on some type of United States soccer system, which probably won't happen anytime soon.Comment

Re: MLS Discussion Thread
i dont think it would help mls if we did have promotion/relegation because how would it be if a team that has a 3000 seat stadium would bring any significant revenue to the league itself. we just dont have the history or the structure of teams to do it. im satisfied with the mls as it is

Re: MLS Discussion Thread
It's fashionable for people to say pro/rel won't happen "anytime soon," but that's leaving open a door that I don't think will ever be opened. There's just no incentive for ownership. The entire philosophy of MLS is based on a form of enforced stability that is completely anathema to the instability of pro/rel and the resulting see-sawing of revenue. The trade off of an additional layer of excitement at the end of the year can't compensate. People should just let the idea go.Comment

Re: MLS Discussion Thread
Considering the MLS has western and eastern conferences (a la the NBA), and a playoff system to decide who wins the championship, I don't see why anyone expects them to want to be like other football leagues around the world.Comment

Re: MLS Discussion Thread
My god. TFC continues to get MLS ref'd MLS needs to invest in the officials. Calling offsides when it isn't, taking a goal away on a phantom foul. Can't happen when the quality of the league is trending the way it is now.
Giovinco was a beast in the the second half at RSL. Single-handedly dominated the match. Pity the supporting cast he had tonight.Comment

We can change the players, the managers and the tactics -- but you can always count on Toronto FC to allow a goal in the final 10 minutes. It's an eight-year tradition.Comment
