I watched the Sounders/SKC match last night. It featured the worst officiating performance I've seen in quite some time. The result is a complete farce.

This is truly what I fear most with Minnesota's MLS move, I haven't watched much MLS, well, ever. So I'm hoping there is at least a decent standard of officiating.

I am biased, but I have seen far worse officiating, even in things like the 2010 World Cup.

Elfath was very consistent. I think at least 1 red card should have happened, but he was slow with the cards and quick with the fouls and kept it consistent.

Yes, Valdez was offside by about as much as Besler was. It should have been called back. That alone doesn't make it terribly officiated (and that was a sideline ref, not Elfath).

Here's MLS.com's Instant Replay review of everything. Simon Borg is annoying, but I agree with all of his conclusions in this: http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2016/1...?autoplay=true

The referee had no control of the game and the assistant refs were awful. It was well below the standard of what should be expected in the playoffs. Alonso is a hack who always gets away with crap like he did last night. I didn't even care who won - I was just amazed by what I was watching.

What did Alonso get away with that Feilhaber didn't get away with? Yes, both were on the verge of red cards and should have gotten yellows earlier, but I'm not sure where Alonso was out of control. I don't remember any dirty tackles in the game.

Feilhaber is an idiot too. I dislike both players and both should have been off. I get that it's an emotional game, but the refs job is to not let it devolve into a foul fest. And if they don't listen, then get players out of there.

I thought this Reddit discussion had good points on both sides of the MLS ref argument. I think it's worth reading if you get a chance: https://www.reddit.com/r/MLS/comment...that_bad_when/

4 games starting now. I'm in the office putting in some work on a Sunday, so having the game on is gonna make it a lot more tolerable.

Jelle Van Damme just nutmegged someone in the penalty area and cut it back to Dos Santos for a goal.

I'm still not sure this actually happened even though I just watched it.

Not sure if it was, but it should have been ruled an own goal by the Colorado guy who actually headed it into the net.

Yeah, always thought that was weird, but if the original shot is going to go in, they'll get credit even if the defender should've done better.

Are we going to see a Montreal-Toronto East Final because that might be more epic than an all-New York battle?

I hope we do. Montreal-Toronto ECF would do huge things to soccer in Canada. Womens side has done their job actually breathing life into Canadian soccer, but mens side has been embarrassingly bad(countries I honestly never heard of, are ranked higher than Canadas mens team in the world rankings). Having 2 Canadian teams(even if they're represented by so many non Canadian players) will still do alot for Canadian soccer here.

Nice to know for TFC, even losing by 1 goal in this next game, they'll still advance. Not familiar at all with this soccer tiebreaker rule, but from what I read, even if TFC loses the game something like 3-1, they'll still win the tiebreaker(since both teams would have 1 win each,3 total goals, but TFC has the 1-0 advantage on road goals?)
