Well, he wanted to leave and they got £65-76 (depending on who you believe) million. So they decided to wipe their hands and avoid the yearly saga of him wanting to go to Spain. Can't say I disagree with the decision, even as much as I loved watching him play.Comment

He's always been prone to injury though, it just wasn't as big of a deal last season.
