I'd also say league—easily. I want to see Arsenal crowned as the best team in England before anything else, and that's because it has been so long. I think that is the real differentiator. Chelsea, City, and United supporters will say Champions League because winning the league is something they've done recently, and not just once.

Re: The 2017-2018 EPL Discussion Thread
If you ask me, I'd easily want the league over UCL this year -- both if I'm being greedy. 4 years may not be a long time for most clubs, but I think it is (and should be) for a club of this stature. Enough articles have been written about United declining after Sir Alex; jokes being made at our lackluster finishes compared to our spending as well as our play; the fear factor of facing Manchester United being gone; I would want us to conquer English football once again before anything else.
As much as I love the "Twenty times, twenty times, Man. United" song, I want that to be updated to twenty-one times.Comment

They’ve also been writing jokes about United’s decline in the CL though, before SAF even retired. He was basically phoning it in in the CL his last few seasons.
Just surprised you wouldn’t prioritize becoming a European powerhouse again over just an English one.Comment

I also think some people see the league as being harder to win. CL you could have an easy group and then get a few lucky draws in the later rounds so you really only have to beat one or two teams to win it all.
But I agree with the post above, teams that have won the league recently probably don't see it as important as the teams that have not won it in awhile.Current careers:

I said I'd prefer the league this year, simply because I think we're capable of it. UCL, we're still a step below, but we all know cup competitions and great luck can produce magic.Comment

Re: The 2017-2018 EPL Discussion Thread
We had a run of 3 finals in 4 years. We just so happened to have that run at the same time as that ridiculous Barcelona side reaching their apex. Lax defence cost us in 2012; we were a controversial red card away from beating Madrid in 2013. SAF phoning it in in Europe is the furthest thing from the truth.

I was talking about after 2011 though. By Fergie’s standards, his last few seasons were definitely phoning it in.Comment

You get a lot more in terms of return when you win the CL. Had we not won the CL in 2012 we don't get Hazard. If we don't get Hazard we don't win these past 2 League titles. A European conquest raises your club stature in a way that the league can't.

Maybe initially but it was United vs Chelsea battling it out for his signature.
Then we proceeded to sign his entire family in the years after.

Re: The 2017-2018 EPL Discussion Thread
A lot of the stuff about how close Spurs were to signing Hazard came out a lot more recently, and part of it was 'Arry himself claiming they were super close to signing him, so obviously that should be taken with a pretty big bowl of salt.
I also think the other side of that rumor, is that people just want to add another "thing" to further expound on how much Chelsea hosed Tottenham that season.
The reality is Tottenham were heavily interested, but they were never going to be able to outbid Chelsea, United and City.
It was probably pretty equal between those three, and then a wonderful Ivorian man-mountain tipped the scales in our favor.Comment

Because Chubby Peyton Manning is an absolute joke. He’s in the running for worst ref in the league every season.
That was the easiest call in the world to make, and as everyone seems to be saying, calls like that are the reason players dive.Comment
