Re: The 2017-2018 EPL Discussion Thread
It's a long season, but I'm still baffled not to see Diego Costa on the pitch. I'm not a Premier League expert, but 20 goals and 7 assists don't grow on trees. And he's so good with possession up top. Obviously, the two red cards were the story for Chelsea. But not having Costa doesn't help.
Seeing Man City start a strong lineup that doesn't even include Sterling, B. Silva, Sane, Toure, Mendy (hurt), etc. is insane!

Basically, Costa isn't even with the the team. He's tried to leave Chelsea every transfer window since he arrived, and the club told him back in January of this past season that he'd no longer be part of the plan going forward. I believe he's in Brazil right now, training by himself, but he's gone. He will either be sold this summer or loaned out and sold in January.
Also, he's NOT good with possession. That's like the one area where Morata is actually an upgrade on Costa.Comment

I keep up with it these days, and I know the Costa situation. Nowhere in my comment says otherwise. The fact he isn't in the plan is the part that baffles me. Trust me, I read about the "texts" between coach and player right after the last season and all the other drama. Haha. That being said, none of us know what's real and what's not.
You're a fairly bitter poster here at OS and usually try to disagree and/or stir the pot when possible. I get it today though, your boys got handled by a possible relegation candidate at home on what was meant to be a glorious opening day after a Championship last season.
Edit: My post sounds bitter in itself, just realized that. Haha. It was more of a shot in jest than anything. My bad on that one!

Costa causes too many problems, simple as that. It really isn't baffling. Conte doesn't want players that aren't committed, and Costa has tried to leave the team every transfer window. He scored a lot but it's still not worth having somebody on the team that does whatever they want, acts unprofessionally etc.
He always comes back from preseason overweight, it takes him several games to get going, he scores a ton and then disappears some time in January and doesn't return until the following season.
Costa scores a lot of goals, but he is no longer worth the trouble for us, and we have to move on.
Also, I'm a lot of things but I'm not bitter rofl. Smartass, douchebag, ****-stirrer I'll give you those. Really not bothered by the loss today anyway, we will sort it out.Comment

Yeah, my post sounded much worse than intended! That's why I wanted to put the edit part in there. That's on me.
I don't know if I'll ever be a PL expert like some here at OS, but I do try to follow the news and things of that nature pretty closely.

I don't know about that.
Morata looked like a monster out there to me. His positioning and finishing up front looked amazing to me.Originally posted by My Wife"The Celtics only won because they have a magical elf playing for their team...."Comment

He'll be just fine I'm sure. I'll hold out judgment until he starts some games and plays against a fresh and high-quality defense on a consistent basis although they may not play defense in the PL this year. Goals and assists for everyone!
With all the things said about Costa and his attitude, I'm sure the trade off to Morata will be fantastic. The red cards were the story of the match anyway, and we'll be able to tell much more the next few games.

Re: The 2017-2018 EPL Discussion Thread
We've always been a team with high scoring midfielders and wide forwards, Drogba only broke 20 goals twice. Morata is much more technically gifted than Costa, so theoretically he will bring more goals out of our midfielders going forward.
Morata was probably the most dangerous player on the pitch today.Comment

Matic doing the dirty work in midfield for United, which ultimately led to Lukaku's debut goal.

But if that squad can actually score goals, then they'll at least get themselves back into the top four. Perhaps even a title before Mourinho loses the plot and is sacked next season.Comment
