I'm just glad Arsenal selling RVP to United won't be the most recent way of stupidly gifting United a title.

Re: The 2017-2018 EPL Discussion Thread
I won't put a lot of stock in given the opponent, but that was a fun game to watch. Our midfield looks scary with Matic and Pogba. I'm realistically hoping for top 4, but anything above of course would be a bonus. It's early - let's see what happensComment

Re: The 2017-2018 EPL Discussion Thread
That's how much better Barca and RM are than the rest of the league, the 2nd place team regularly breaks the 90 point mark.
This season, United will have to contend with City, Tottenham, Chelsea if we ever get our **** together, Liverpool and probably Arsenal. All these teams are pretty close to each other in strength. Additionally, the Prem has so much money now, even garbage teams like West Ham, Everton, Stoke, Palace etc. can spend tons of money on players of higher quality than they would normally be able to afford. This means you can't just roll up to [insert bottom half team's stadium here] and comfortably tonk them for 6 goals and go home anymore, every game is a massive fight.
If Jose can come out of this season with another trophy, his ego will reach critical mass and most likely carry him through several seasons beyond his normal stay at a club. If he comes up completely trophy-less however, especially is Pep gets one, then we are almost certainly in for a spicy 3rd season meltdown.
Which would be great, because it will distract everyone from Conte leaving next summer.Comment

That's well said. I'm not the biggest Jose fan, but I'd be happy if his second season lands us a title if not more. The biggest thing he has done is give some credibility back.
City are solid of course, but Chelsea to me are a team I fear. No Hazard, Baka, and I don't think the're done in the transfer market. Once at full health, I think Chelsea's right up there.Comment

Re: The 2017-2018 EPL Discussion Thread
This talk of closing the transfer window early is pretty stupid. It wont stop players from leaving when every other league in Europe will still be able to buy your players. They want to close it before the season starts to prevent things like the Coutinho situation, but that wouldn't stop it. Since Barca's window would still be open. Makes no sense. So if they did snag him, then in that situation the team who lost a key player and got a big chunk of cash, couldn't even be able to try and replace them until January.

Re: The 2017-2018 EPL Discussion Thread
This whole "getting better squad clarity by closing the window when the season starts" thing is nonsense anyway.
Most articles completely ignore the positive side of having the window open until the end of August.
What if you start the season with two straight losses and your squad needs to be quickly re-assessed? What if your best player gets a 6 month injury in game week 2?
There are plenty of good reasons to keep it the way it is, and most articles are only focusing on basically a single reason it's bad.Comment

This. I would absolutely love the window to close before the season, but only if all the other major leagues do the same.Comment

Re: The 2017-2018 EPL Discussion Thread
Which is an important point, since no other league is currently even considering it.Comment
