Jack Harrison hat trick at West Ham. I'm clearly watching the wrong game. Liverpool game is mediocre.

EDIT: And the Robertson with a peach of a cross for The Ox. Super ball!

I still think Tuchel is getting it wrong with him and being too stubborn.

I get that it sucks Rom isn’t good in the air and can’t play like a target man, but why spend that kind of money on a striker when you aren’t planning on using him the same way that just netted him like 40 goals in a season?

Also Pulisic gets way too much crap from our fan base. They all love Werner basically because he works hard and does his best, creates decent chances. Pulisic does the same except he’s doing it while being played out of position and usually with a worse/rotated squad and then becomes a scapegoat.

Let Pulisic play with Mount and Haevertz in that front 3 with our normal team behind him, I promise he can at least do as well as Werner, but honestly probably better.

I only watched very extended highlights, but there was a moment yesterday in the first half when he ran foward with the ball and played it out to his right to...someone...anyway, they missed a shot, but the way he ran through a player basically with the ball to get forward and create an opportunity made me think "There—that's the Lukaku I saw last year at Inter" and in that moment it was terrifying.

It's insane that after Conte showed everyone how to make him essentially unplayable, Tuchel isn't doing it.

I didn't like the front 3 selection but don't forget that a lot of the other guys played midweek so some rotation was going to happen.

I also don't think he's been really using him wrong. The problem has been that we haven't had all three of Kai, Rom, and Timo really fit at the same time except for this past week which Tuchel deployed a 4-2-2-2 a few times and ROm played well. I do agree that the 3-5-2 is probably the best for him but where do guys like CHO and Pulisic fit into that? They're not wingbacks but have had to play there because of injuries and Azpi not being good going forward.

Our fanbase isn't calling for Timo's head because he hasn't been playing that much recently. Wait until he misses a few sitters and you'll see folks get back on him.

Lukaku's link-up play and layoffs yesterday were horrible but that was just a one-match thing. We saw how good he was in the beginning of the year with it but it's highlighted when we play a team like City who packs us in and we have to rely on someone to hold it up for a sec or lay it off. To be fair, we had SO MANY chances to release him (same with Timo last year) where we didn't or Ziyech/Kova got it wrong. Kova had the nice one which ROm should have buried but his passing was off yesterday. Like I said, it was just a one off for Kova because we saw his assist #'s skyrocket in the beginning of the year because his final ball was much improved.

My only issue with Puli is injuries. He's been a trooper this year and played wherever's he been asked too.

The problem has been those types of moments have been far & few inbetween. Him, Ziyech, and Alonso had a 3v2 yesterday. Ziyech screwed up his run and didn't hold the line and it was obvious to see but Rom still passed it to him when the better option was to either take the shot or wait for Alonso to come on his left foot.

Just one situation but a microcosm of how the season has gone so far.

The difference between us, City, and Liverpool is that while we have the better defense, they have elite wide players that get goals. We have to get goals from our wingbacks (either them scoring or generating chances) and when they're hurt our attack suffers. We also have a mixture of 3-4 different managerial transfers which in fairness will probably always be the case at Chelsea so there's just a mix of different player styles where as Klopp & Pep have had time to pick players to fit their systems.

Yep—that was the moment I was thinking of, and while he could've done better, is there anyone else in the league who could've gotten in the position he did? I mean, where he got the ball, how he got through the defender(s)—is there anyone else in the league right now who even gets to the point of making that poor judgement pass? I don't know if there is.

Nobody may really know, but was Lukaku a Tuchel signing, or more of a club signing with the idea that whoever is in-charge will have an elite (depending on circumstances, I know) striker at their disposal?

There’s probably only a few players in the game that could have gotten the ball into that position (Halaand comes to mind because of his power and pace) but it highlights our biggest problem, we create chances (2nd most in the league) but we squander a lot of chances because the final ball has been bad this year.

Tuchel asked for an out and out striker and I don’t think we wanted to play the Halaand game so he was the 2nd best available and because Inter’s financials are a mess the move was relatively straightforward.

I’m not giving up on him. It just needs a little time. He was never going to be the final piece to the puzzle as in plug and play but we should have been closing the gap on City a little more.

On the contrary I think a lot of it is just that he was advertised as being better than he is, currently.

He’s a good player but we love a hero and a guy to pin our hopes on in any sport with a team USA and he’s the guy and he’s not going to turn the USA into a consistent World Cup qualifier.

In the UK media too, I don’t think he’s mentioned enough to really say he’s criticized for being American. The league has a history of having very likable American players who never had criticism thrown at them for being American. Among the general public? Maybe, but a lot of it is due to him being expensive and playing for Chelsea. Nobody likes the ‘big 6’ or their players.

Naa man he gets a lot of crap from Chelsea fans who cheaply result to anti-American BS when he doesn’t perform or is injured which usually comes after some bad challenge (for the USA and Chelsea) but you’re a smart fan, you know soccer fans are the worst type of fans. No sport is as fickle and Johnny come lately as soccer.

Hate me today, score a brace tomorrow and it’s all love.

Pulisic is also a bit better than people give him credit for too.

The one time he was actually fit for a lengthy period he was our best player, just needs to stop getting injured.

Chelsea v Spurs on the weekend will be interesting. Not suggesting Spurs will catch up, but Spurs now have FIVE games in hand on Chelsea.
