    Re: The Transfer Thread

Watford have agreed to send Ighalo to China for £20m, but it doesn't seem like he wants to go.

Also, Leicester have turned down a £7m bid from Sunderland for Ulloa, who seems to now be refusing to play for them any further.

    An exciting end to January!

Not expecting much in the way of done deals today, but Chuba Akpom is off to Brighton, and Gedion Zelalem is off to VVV Venlo, both on loan.

Also Gabbiadini to Soton for £14m is incredible to me, such potential that never came through at Napoli.

Aubameyang has now stated he wants a move away from Dortmund during the summer window. He desires a move to Real Madrid, but a lot of players do I imagine. Will he end up there or somewhere in the Premier League? I'm sure there will be plenty of teams offering up loads of money for his services.

Why do players want out of Dortmund? They have a fantastic home game atmosphere, and they're pretty darn good too. Do other teams just have so much more money than they do?

This is now a real thing, that really happened.

Yeah, they're definitely my favorite Bundesliga club. I don't find myself watching Bundesliga as much as I thought I would though, not sure why. As an American soccer fan, I should enjoy watching it more than all the other European leagues.

I like to tune in when Dortmund are playing though.

Why should being an American push a German league with a few "haves" and a bunch of "have nots" to the top of your list? I don't follow that.

Maybe it's because there are several American international players playing in the Bundesliga this season. Just guessing at the line of thinking.

I personally prefer the BPL, but I'll watch Dortmund when they are playing, mostly because of Christian Pulisic.

Like the guy above said, there are way more American Internationals playing in Bundesliga than any other league other than MLS. That should make it more fun for me to follow, but like you said, there is 1 great teams, a few decent teams, and a host of blah teams. I watch it occasionally but not as much as I thought I would.

I've followed MLS for years, and I'll continue to support my home league. That being said, there's just something about the Premier League that always draws me back. It's definitely my favorite!

All about marketing really, a lot of those decent and "blah" Bundesliga teams would rip up a lot of our Prem teams.

I watch the Bundesliga highlights show every week and catch a live match here and there. Just as skilled and entertaining as EPL top to bottom. Better overall crowd atmospheres too. Would be nice if there could be a couple consistent challengers to the Bayern machine though. Unfortunately, they have some kind of voodoo that makes their rivals sell them players and makes teams from other leagues sell them great players on the cheap.

Bayern's dominance ended up hurting them when the Bundesliga signed their new TV deal and it ended up being a fraction of the deal the EPL signed. People want to see a title race, and when you cannibalize your own league, you end up hurting yourself in the long term.

It's not that people want to see a title race, people want to see stars and money. The Prem has tons of money, and star players from all over come to play. The BL just doesn't have enough recognizable stars outside Bayern.

Serie A was pretty much unquestionably the biggest and most followed league in the world in the 90s and part of the 2000s for this same reason. Didn't even matter that it was a non-English league, they had so many star players and so much money it was like an NBA style super league.

Also, something not often talked about, but not having a winter break plays a substantial role in the Prem having such good TV deals. It's the only league in Europe playing during Christmas, a time when most people are home from work and far more likely to watch a game.

Christmas time sports is already a huge deal, then add in the fact that the Prem is completely uncontested and there you go.
