Report: Canucks looking to draft right winger in upcoming draft
By: Stan Willard
June 24th, 2009.

Montreal - Canucks General Manager Alex Wenger, attended the Prospects Game Wednesday evening in Montreal. Wenger was one of several GM's from around the league getting one last look at the top prospects before going into the NHL Entry draft tomorrow (June 25th, 2009). The Canucks General Manager looked very interested in the first line right winger for the North American Juniors Wednesday. "I really enjoyed watching Kevin Gardener play during tonight's games. He showed exactly what we wanted, speed." said a very happy Mr. Wenger Wednesday night.

All players at Wednesday nights Prospects Game were full of energy and enthusiasm as they try to get into the hearts and minds of the NHL General Managers as one day they could play for their teams. "It was really nerve racking to play in front the NHL's GM's" said one exhausted Kevin Gardener after the 5-0 blowout game. "We had to continually put all effort into the game to try and show the General Managers that we have what it takes to make the NHL".

The Canucks maybe very interested in the top 5 picks in the draft but with their current pick of 22nd, these players may not wear the Canucks jersey for the upcoming NHL season. "I feel confident that we shall be able to get higher in the draft, it's all just a matter of finding the right deal to move up." Wenger reassured the media with other news. "If we cannot move up we'll try as hard as we can to gain some good prospects from other teams either through our draft picks or through some of our older or younger talent that we have. But if that doesn't happen, then we'll try the free agency and see what that has to offer."

Canucks try their hardest, and get their man
By: Stan Willard
June 25th, 2009
Montreal - The Canucks landed their number one prospect Thursday at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Canucks GM Alex Wenger managed to get Nashville's 11th overall 1st round pick and Nolan Vonkman for Canucks defenceman Kevin Bieksa, rookie goalie Cory Schneider and the Canucks 22nd overall 1st round pick. "This trade was key to get the guy we wanted," said a very pleased Wenger Thursday. "We had to sacrifice a few players that had a future here in Vancouver but in the end, we got the guy we wanted, a Top 10 skater".

The Canucks weren't done there, they managed to fill the defensive void by aquiring Josh Georges from Montreal for Center Alex Bolduc and Right Winger Yanic Hansen. "These players have had difficult seasons with Manitoba the last few years and we felt that Montreal was a more suitable place for them. Again it was a difficult deal but with the void on the back end, we had to get someone and Josh Georges fit our description."

The Canucks then drafted a Left Winger in the second round by the names Boris Morozov. "This player like Gardener, had tremendous speed and we were suprised by the time our 22nd pick came around, he was still there." said Wenger. Now that the draft is out of the way, Free Agency is what awaits the newest Canucks General Manager. "Free Agency shall be an interesting time thats for sure." replied Wenger. "We managed to free up some cap space during the draft so we plan to use it."

Canucks stay quiet during Free Agency
By: Stan Willard
July 31st, 2009

Vancouver - Despite the fact of General Manager Alex Wenger saying that he wwould attempt to gain some players during free agency, that was no the case over the whole month of July. "We've been looking around the free agency list alot since July 1st, but no player really made us think we needed that guy." said Wenger. "This years free agency wasn't full of big name players and thus this was one of the reasons we didn't do anything."

The Canucks have annouced their Pre-Season opening day lineups and have released them to the general public. The first game will be using their rumor "Final" line combinations and will be tweaked over the 7 games that they shall play. Their first season game starts October 1st.

This looks really good! Good Job in the draft.

Aslo, when you write up articles in a word processor like Microsoft Word, a whole bunch of Smilies come up on your article. There is a checkbox if you scroll down under "Additional Options" and it says "Disable Smilies In Text". That should take care of it.

Once again, great jo and good luck with the 'Nucks.

Vigneault gets extension
By: Stan Willard
September 13th, 2009

Vancouver - The Canucks have resigned Head Coach Alain Vigneault to a new 4 year contract extension Sunday at GM Place. "I'm pleased that they decided to keep me around," said a happy Vigneault Sunday. "I'm sure that in the next four years, we will have a great team and I'm honored to coach that team".

"It was a no brainer for me," said Wenger. "The other coaches out there didn't have what Vigneault brought to the table," "He showed us in the previous years that he was a capable head coach who we could count on when times got tough." The Canucks head to Terrace to start their pre-season against the New York Islanders Monday. "Nothing is going to change," said Vigneault. "Except my practises. Gunna go a bit harder on the guys this year".
