Around The League, Issue One
Season Outlook

Goaltending Carousel:

A lot of goalies changed teams this offseason. In fact, a number of teams saw both their starter and backup goalies leave and are running with two completely new goalies. A total of 31 goalies changed teams this year, and that doesn't count any playing in the minors or any UFAs.

Change in Power:

Continuing the goaltending conversation, a number of teams drastically improved their goaltending, while others... flopped

•Boston Bruins: Lost Rask. Signed James Reimer, resigned Jaroslav Halak

•Calgary Flames: Lost Talbot, Rittich. Signed Brayden Holtby, Tukka Rask

•Carolina Hurricanes: Lost Mrazek, Reimer. Signed Frederik Andersen, Jordan Binnington

•Buffalo Sabres: Lost Linus Ullmark, Carter Hutton. Signed Craig Anderson, Laurent Brossoit

•Chicago Blackhawks: Lost Corey Crawford. Signed Jacob Markstrom

•Nashville Predators: Lost Pekka Rinne, Jusse Saros. Signed Brian Elliott, resigned Connor Ingram

•Ottawa Senators: Lost Craig Anderson, Anders Nilsson. Signed Jimmy Howard, Ryan Miller

•Toronto Maple Leafs: Lost Frederik Andersen, Jack Campbell. Signed Devan Dubnyk, Carter Hutton

2020 Regular Season Game 1 Preview & Lineup

The Saskatchewan Broncos will become the 32nd NHL team on ice when they take on the former expansion team Vegas Golden Knights at Elgar Petersen Arena

Rookie Quinton Byfield will make his NHL debut, playing on the second line with Ondrej Palat and Jordan Greenway. General Manager Scott Barney and Head Coach Francois Bordeleau decided to give Byfield a 9-game trial, and to make his NHL debut on the franchise's first game in Franchise history will be something the the young forward will remember for the rest of his life

Corey Crawford will start in goal with Antti Raanta backing him up

VEGAS, SASKATCHEWAN BREAKS THE SCOREBOARD; BYFIELD SCORES HAT TRICK

Quinton Byfield & Ondrej Palat both scored hat tricks as the Saskatchewan Broncos defeated the Vegas Golden Knights by an almost unbelievable score of 14-11

Vegas took a whopping 70 shots and was deadly on the PowerPlay, going 3 for 5.

Rookie Quinton Byfield would score both his first career goal and the first goal in franchise history just a minute into the game and Denis Gurianov added another 20 seconds later. 4 minutes later Ondrej Palat scored his first.

Just as quickly as Saskatchewan would start, they would implode as Cody Glass (8:17), Max Pacioretty (11:10) & Reilly Smith (14:25) would tie the game at 3. Ryan Strome (16:19) and Ondrej Palat (2, 18:41) would give the Broncos a 5-3 lead heading into the second

The second period was all Vegas as they would outshoot Saskatchewan 25-18 and out score them 6-2, to lead 9-7 at the end of the second Ryan Reaves x2, Cody Glass, Reilly Smith, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins & Riley Nash would score for Vegas while Ryan Strome and Derrick Brassard would score for the Broncos. In addition, Corey Crawford would be pulled in favor of Antti Raanta.

The third period saw another boatload of goals, fortunately Saskatchewan would outscore Vegas 7-2 in the third period to roar back for the 14-11 win. Alex Tuch and Max Pacioretty would score for Vegas. Alex Iafallo, Kyle Palmieri, Quinton Byfield X 2, Ondrej Palat & Justin Williams X 2 would add goals for Saskatchewan, including a brilliant goal by Just Williams at 17:07. Derrick Brassard and Josh Anderson had 3 Vegas players on them but Brassard managed to find a streaking Justin Williams across ice, who inexplicably had no one around him. Poor Fleury never stood a chance.

Quinton Byfield would finish with 3 goals and 1 assist for 4 points in his NHL debut

SASKATCHEWAN HOSTS MONTREAL; PIETRANGELO OUT WITH INJURY

When the Saskatchewan Broncos take in the Montreal Canadiens in Elgar Petersen Arena, they'll have to do so without alternate Captain and #1 defenseman Alex Pietrangelo, who is out until November 6 with a pulled groin.

Many were wondering who was going to okay with Alexander Edler. The front runner appears to be Sami Vatenen, but Ethan Bear is also a potential option.

In net, the team will go with Corey Crawford while Montreal will go with backup Linus Ullmark over starter Carey Price.
