Re: All Madden NG SET - Based off Rens & Mizzourah
Alright, y'all, longish update here...
2021 was legendary. Danny Dimes came into the season with the weight of the world on his shoulders. He was either gonna make a playoff run and become "the guy," or he was gonna be on the outs with the Joe Judge regime.
He had a meh regular season but we scraped to 10-6 and got to the WC round. DD proceeded to go berserk, winning 3 straight road playoff games (CHI, SF, DAL) to get to the SB vs. KC. In that span, he threw 11 TDs and 2 INTs.
The game plan vs. KC was conservative, given their talent, and DD played within himself, well enough to get us to a 17-12 lead in the 3rd quarter. Then he got hit on a scramble and broke his scapula. Out 20 weeks. In comes journeyman Andy Dalton, and he leads the team on a clutch 97 YD TD drive to put us up 24-12. Xavier McKinney picks Mahomes off in the end zone to seal it, and we win the Lombardi.
Every game in the franchise, including playoffs, is on Twitch. Didn't touch a slider since midway through season one. Most fun I've ever had with Madden.
Did a pre-season preview for 2022 explaining draftees, roster moves, and backstories, so check that out if y'all like.
The short of it is: we know the offense can be elite. DD operates it efficiently, and we have elite talent in Saquon Barkley and Evan Engram. Sterling Shepherd and Darius Slayton play extremely well in the WC system I'm running.
So the objective in the off-season was to add defensive talent. We signed JJ Watt to fortify the pass rush and are hoping that he will enhance Shaquill Barrett's performance off the edge. We also signed Leighton Vander Esch to bolster the LB corps. Blake Martinez was a one-man wrecking ball for 2 seasons and is still a major part of the defense, but we wanted a second player to shore up that unit. So those were our major off-season signings.
If all goes as planned, the pass rush and LB play will help the corners out. That's the one area we're not stellar in on D--solid S but league-average corners.
FA signings aside, we also had a solid draft for the second straight year. We traded out of the 32nd pick and took an offer from SF for an extra 2nd and 3rd rounder this year w/ a late round pick next year.
We flipped that into a 71 OVR hidden dev QB, a 74 OVR hidden dev CB, a 70 OVR hidden dev WR, a 70 OVR hidden dev HB, a 70 OVR TE, and a WR & TE at 67 OVR in the late rounds.
The QB pick was a steal--early 2nd round grade available at the very end of the round with a nice cluster of archetypes. Crucially, this pick provides me some security at the QB position should we lose DD again. And with a full season's development, the rookie should be nearly as good as DD by season's end, making him a very solid #2 option.
We are all in on a repeat in 2022. Nothing less than a division title and a SB return will satisfy Judge or the ownership, so here's to hoping 2021 wasn't a fluke. I'll be very interested to see if DD can be the same guy this season as he was in the playoffs.
