You gotta understand, in marketing terms, that's not an eye catcher.

I'm with CM, so much criticism and far stretched accusations already and we've seen one gif that doesn't even show actual gameplay. Simply two broken tackle animations. Just relax, it's not even June!

Tackle battle is looking a lot like the tacklebreaking feature in 2k football just with random buttons. I like it though it gives u a chance to stop the running back animations u couldnt stop one on one before but I dont like seeing gurley throw off a dlineman with one arm.

I venture to guess that ballcarriers attempt to fight through attempted tackles quite frequently in the NFL, so contextually having a gameplay mechanic to mimic that behavior makes plenty of sense.

More importantly, immersion in video games includes gameplay mechanics; in order to feel immersion in a video game one must be able to engage said game and have agency in determining what happens on screen. Immersion is absolutely not limited to minimalist UI.

Games which provide non-UI cues for user inputs and interactions can be more immersive than those which provide explicit button prompts - a great example of a game teaching the player how to perform actions in the world without UI prompts is World 1-1 in Super Mario Bros., which has been written about by many people - but unless the game can confidently teach the user how and when to perform the required action without the button prompt, then the button prompt must exist.

He shouldn't and it looks bad but you guys have to realize these videos aren't for "Us" there suppose to show off the new "special moves". They domt want you to dissect every player on the field, not the point of these videos, we look at this video then we shake our heads, a casual fan will be like "omg that's so cool"

That's how I see it. It's the same as the old break tackle mechanic from the 2k days. You're getting tackled, repeatedly press a button for the change to break the tackle. The mechanic has been used before, and to my recollection nobody complained about it then. Not sure why it's a huge issue now. They've already said the outcomes are largely slanted towards the break tackle/tackle ratings between the two players, so I just don't see the big deal. It gives the ballcarrier, and the defender the opportunity to control the outcome of something that's normally 100% scripted. Now, its less than 100% scripted, but I'd imagine, still leans more towards the side of scripted as they've said ratings will factor heavily into it.

As for the animation, yeah, it is what it is. I wonder how much of the DL's approach was dictated already by the tackling engine because the ballcarrier was already engaged by another defender too.

Bottom line really, I don't think we're going to be able to tell until we all get our hands on it and play it.

Right. As far as I'm concerned, this is the representation of the "extra effort" plays that we see from bruising tailbacks like LeGarrette Blount. And it's important to remember that this doesn't happen every time there is a head-on tackle. This won't occur with Asante Samuel on Adrian Peterson, but with a Kam Chancellor-Jonathan Stewart matchup. We gotta chill out with the mini-freakout sessions.

Clint mentioned in a tweet regarding the gap defensive video that the game isn't finished, yet, that it's a WIP, but he appreciated people pointing it out to him. He might say the same thing about this clip. And before anyone chimes in and say's, yeah, but, that's happened in the past, etccc..... and I agree with that. Time will only tell. They have about 7 to 8 weeks before the game goes gold.

Re: New Tackle Battle GIF

It's something to read the double standard play out with some, when it's a good one off representation of a touted feature in a clip, that's cool, something to be excited about but when that one off clip shows something bad or a potential issue, it's just a one off clip, nothing to get worried about, smh.

This gif specifically is about Tackle Battle yet it seems to contradict what we were told about it just being for 1 on 1 tackles. This gif clearly shows two defenders engaged with a ball carrier yet the ball carrier still "wins" and this is being used as an example of Tackle Battle. That alone is reason to at least want clarification on why this is. I'm willing to concede that #92 could be considered going for a ball strip vs a tackle, so the back was able to break away but again, idk how that has anything to do with Tackle Battle, as it was explained or as I understand it.
